  • Voltage sags are considered the dominant disturbances affecting power quality. Dynamic voltage restorers(DVRs) are mainly used to protect sensitive loads from the electrical network voltage disturbances such as sags or swells and could be used to reduce harmonic distortion of ac voltages. The typical DVR topology essentially contains a PWM inverter with LC Filter, an injection transformer connected between the ac voltage line and the sensitive load, and a DC energy storage device. For injecting series voltage, the PWM inverter is used and the passive filter consist of inductor(L) and capacitor(C) for harmonics elimination of the inverter. However there are voltage pulsation responses by the characteristic of the LC passive filter that eliminate the harmonics of the PWM output waveform of the inverter. Therefore, this paper presented design and feedback performance of LC filter used in the DVRs. The voltage control by LC filter should be connected in the line side since this feedback method allows a relatively faster dynamic response, enabling the elimination of voltage notches or spikes in the beginning and in the end of sags and strong load voltage THD reduction. Illustrative examples are also included.

  • In this paper, we perform the harmonic filter design for Incheon international airport, especially passenger terminal based on the results of measurement and analysis. Also, we show the waveform of machines which produce harmonics as a harmonic source. For harmonic filter design, we propose the APF(Active Power Filter) and ZSF(Zero Sequence Filter) design. Also, we simulate the filter effects using EDSA package. The results show the effectiveness of the method.

  • Torque ripples generate mechanical vibration at low speed and acoustic noise at high speed. The back emf harmonics of a PM synchronous motor is one of the main sources of torque ripples. To reduce torque ripples resulting from back emf harmonics, dq-axis harmonic currents that reduce the torque ripples are generally compensated to the current controller. Harmonic current compensation is effective at low speed, but it is not applicable at high speed because of the limited bandwidth of the current controller. In this study, dq-axis harmonic voltage compensation that can reduce torque ripples at high speed is proposed. The dq-axis harmonic voltages are calculated from the motor speed and the dq-axis harmonic currents. The effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing torque ripple is verified by a simulation and experiments.

  • Allowing for the fact that the load requiring for high speed has been incrased lately, this paper deals with a method that can consecutively convert the frequency from low frequency to high frequency. And this paper also shows the reduced effect of harmonics and the effectiveness or the proposed system, which are thoughly tested and proved through the experiments in the output frequency range of from 5Hz to 1200Hz.

  • In case while M(modulation index) is more than 0.7, the spectrum of motor voltage and current of a conventional two-phase SRP-PWM scheme are not reduced considerably. To solve the problems of a conventional two-phase SRP-PWM, this paper proposes a two-phase SRP-PWM(DZSRP-PWM) with double zero vector mode which zero vector is selected as V(111) in case of M >0.7, and zero vector is selected as V(000) if M < 0.7. For the validity of the proposed method, the PSIM simulations and experiments were achieved. And the simulation and experiment results show that the voltage and current harmonics all over the modulation index are spread to a wide band area.

  • Recently, harmonic problem affect a great effect on power system. Especially, Incheon International Airport is a very important place in view of safety and reliability of power. In this paper we measure the harmonics at incheon international airport, especially passenger terminal. With the results we analysis the results and propose the guideline of harmonic reduction method. To do this we compare various kinds of specification for harmonic restrictions.

  • In this paper, a 3phase-3wire series active power filter compensating current harmonics and unbalanced source voltages is presented. The system is composed of series active power filter and shunt passive filters that are tuned 5th and 7th harmonics. In this system, series active power filter improves harmonic compensation characteristics of the shunt passive filters and compensates the unbalanced source voltages. In the proposed algorithm, compensation voltage for harmonic reduction is calculated by a performance function, and compensation voltage for the unbalanced source voltage is calculated in based on the synchronous reference frame. Some results obtained from the experimental model using the proposed method are presented to demonstrate and confirm its validity.

  • AC to DC converter that consists of relatively simple diode rectifier devices has been widely used in the field of the electric propulsion system. Also, since this rectifier includes large harmonics in the input current, a variety of researches have been developed to reduce the harmonics. The proposed method of this paper is to reduce the harmonics included in the input current of rectifiers and propulsion motor by injecting the output current of diode rectifier into the input of them. In addition, the proposed method ensures electrical safety through the respective isolation of the injection current, the source, and the loads using the Wye-Delta insulating transformer applied in current injection device that is installed in the input circuit of rectifiers and propulsion motor. The proposed method is simulated by applying to the electric propulsion ship that is currently operating. We confirm the validity of the proposed method compared with conventional power conversion system.
