As the increasing of Non-linear load, we have been growing interest for the harmonics. Harmonics has been focused on the current component rather than voltages. Voltage harmonics can be mainly generated at the PCC with non-linear load and act on voltage unbalance. Voltage harmonics can be enlarged at the capacitor with low impedance as frequency increases. Capacitor is basically used for the power-factor compensation and sometimes as the passive filter. Small voltage of low-order acts on quite a few at the capacitor by the current increase. Capacitor has easily fall under by harmonic components. In this paper, we measured the magnitude and phase angle of asymmetrical voltage with harmonics components at the PCC and calculated with the same condition. we concluded that voltage harmonics of higher order increase each current component but have a little effect on capacitor rating.
Modern AC electric car has PWM(Pulse Width Modulation)-controlled converters, which give rise to higher harmonics. The current harmonics injected from AC electric car is propagated through power feeding circuit, As the feeding circuit is a distributed constant circuit composed of RLC, the capacitance of the feeding circuit and the inductance on the side of power system cause a parallel resonance and a magnification of current harmonics at a specific frequency. The magnified current harmonics usually brings about various problems. That is, the current harmonics makes interference in the adjacent lines of communications and the railway signalling system. Furthermore, in case it flows on the side of power system, not only overheating and vibration at the power capacitors but also wrong operation at the protective devices can occur. Therefore, the exact assessment of the harmonic current flow must be undertaken at design and planning stage for the electric traction systems. From these point of view, this study presents an approach to model and to analyse traction power feeding system focused on the amplification of harmonic current The proposed algorithm is applied to a standard AT(Auto-transformer)-fed test system in which electric car with PWM-controlled converters is running.
This paper analyses the harmonic pollution to power grids caused by several high-power rectifiers, summarizes the requirements for rectifiers in suppressing grid-side current harmonics and optimizes a new-type of current source PWM rectifier with a hybrid switch. The rectifier with a hybrid switch boasts significant current characteristics and cost advantages in the high-power area. To further enhance the working frequency of the current source rectifier with a hybrid switch for suppressing grid-side harmonics and reducing the inductance size, this paper proposes an optimal control strategy based on space vector. It also verifies that the optimal control strategy based on space vector can reduce the total harmonic distortion of the grid-side current of the rectifier with a hybrid switch via circuit simulation and experimental results.

The first and second harmonics have been measured in the iron whisker with the axial current that produces a circular field. The observed harmonics profiles have been discussed in terms of theoretical analysis based on the nonlinear, asymmetric magnetization that are related to the nucleation, transformation and annihilation of domains. The change of second harmonics profile is more sensitive to the domain variation than that of first harmonics.
Due to the increasing of nonlinear loads such as converters and inverters connected to the electric power distribution system, and extensive application of harmonic generation sources with power electronic devices, disturbance of the electric power system and its influences on industries have been continuously increasing. Thus, it is difficult to construct accurate load model for active and reactive power in environments with harmonics. In this research, we develop current harmonics estimation method based on Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) with fast learning procedure for residential loads. Using data sets acquired from various residential loads, the proposed method has been intensively tested. As the experimental results, we confirm that the proposed method makes it possible to effective estimate current harmonics for various input voltage.
Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) have emerged as the most promising topology for high and medium voltage applications for the coming years. However, one particular negative characteristic of MMCs is the existence of circulating current, which contains a dc component and a series of low-frequency even-order ac harmonics. If not suppressed, these ac harmonics will distort the arm currents, increase the power loses, and cause higher current stresses on the semiconductor devices. Repetitive control (RC) is well known due to its distinctive capabilities in tracking periodic signals and eliminating periodic errors. In this paper, a novel circulating current control scheme base on RC is proposed to effectively track the dc component and to restrain the low-frequency ac harmonics. The integrating function is inherently embedded in the RC controller. Therefore, the proposed circulating current control only parallels the RC controller with a proportional controller. Thus, conflicts between the RC controller and the traditional proportional integral (PI) controller can be avoided. The design methodologies of the RC controller and a stability analysis are also introduced. The validity of the proposed circulating current control approach has been verified by simulation and experimental results based on a three-phase MMC downscaled prototype.

This paper presents the result of survey of case study for Harmonics in electrical Installations of buildings. Recently, many power electronic equipments(power converter, computers, air conditioners electronic ballasts for fluorescent lamps and so on) are used in office buildings, and harmonic current from them influence the other equipments in a distribution line. Notably, voltage distortion or voltage harmonics may approach or exceed is allowable level in power distribution system. Individual electric power consumers and end-users and responsible for reducing current harmonics while companies or utilities are responsible for reducing voltage harmonics at the point of common coupling in distribution system. As for harmonics, which one of the electric power qualities, it becomes important to obtain harmonic voltage/current distribution of the power system precisely because the use of power electronic apparatus in increasing. However, there are some difficulties on evaluating the measured data in comparison with the simulated result. The primary cause was indentitied with the resonance of harmonics form many sources. To suppress harmonics in electrical installations of buildings, one of many methods suggest that resonance frequencies are controlled by modulating the capacities of high-voltage customer's capacitors.
In this paper, an Active Power Filter (APF) is implemented using a dSPACE DS1104 processor to compensate harmonics and reactive power produced by nonlinear load. The reference source current is computed based on the measurement of harmonics in the supply voltage and load current. A hysteresis based current controller has been implemented in a DSP processor for injecting the compensating current into the power system, so that APF allows suppression of the harmonics and reactive power component of load current, resulting in a supply current that is purely sinusoidal. Simulation and experimental results of the proposed APF to meet the IEEE-519 standards are presented.
