Fluctuating wind conditions necessitate the use of a variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) with a AC/DC/AC converter scheme in order to harvest the maximum power from the wind and to decouple the synchronous generator voltage and frequency from the grid voltage and frequency. In this paper, a combination of a three phase diode bridge rectifier (DBR) and a modified topology of the diode clamped multilevel inverter (DCMLI) has been considered as an AC/DC/AC converter. A control strategy has been proposed for the DCMLI to achieve the objective of grid interface of a wind power system together with local load compensation. A novel fixed frequency current control method is proposed for the DCMLI based on the level shifted multi carrier PWM for achieving the required control objectives with equal and uniform switching frequency operation for better control and thermal management with the modified DCMLI. The condition of the controller gain is derived to ensure the operation of the DCMLI at the fixed frequency of the carrier. The converter current injected into the distribution grid is controlled in accordance with the wind power availability. In addition, load compensation is performed as an added facility in order to free the source currents being fed from the grid of harmonic distortion, unbalance and a low power factor even though the load may be unbalanced, non-linear and of a poor power factor. The results are validated using PSCAD/EMTDC simulation studies.

The propagation of coherent time-harmonic elastic L-and SV-waves is studied in a medium with random distribution of cylindrical inclusions. The purpose of the research is to characterize the dynamic elastic moduli and the attenuation properties of fiber-reinforced composite materials. The cylindes representing the fibers are assumed to be distributed in parallel with each other and the direction of incident waves are normal to the cylinder axes. A multiple scattering formula using the single scattering coefficients in conjunction with the Lax's quasicrystalline approximation is derived from which the dispersion relation for such medium is obtained. In order to formulate the multiple scattering interaction between cylinders, the pair correlation functions are generated by the Monte Carlo simulation technique. From the numerically evaluated complex wavenumbers, the propagation speed of the average wave, the coherent attenuation and the effective elastic moduli are presented as functions of frequency and fiber volume fraction.
A sudden step change is observed in the vertical position readings from beam position monitors (BPMs) mounted at the several sector vacuum chambers of Pohang Light Source. To study the source of this sudden step change, we measured the RF transmission scattering matrix (S21) through the pickup electrodes of BPMs mounted at the both ends of the sector vacuum chamber. The measured $S_{21}$ graph of the sector vacuum chambers suffering sudden step change has a peak in the BPM operation frequency bandwidth. Otherwise that of the other sector vacuum chambers doesn't have a peak. It is shown by the numerical simulation that the peak found in the BPM operation frequency bandwidth corresponds to the longitudinal harmonic of transverse electric resonance mode.
To improve $B_1$ homogeneity in high field MRI, the RF power is applied to the transmit array coil elements sequentially in the time-multiplexed way. Since only a single coil element is activated in a time-multiplexing slot, the global standing wave formation in the human body is greatly suppressed. The time-multiplexing slot width is on the order of micro seconds, hence, high-order-harmonic slices can be placed far from the transmit coil and simultaneous multiple slice selection can be avoided. The $B_1$ homogeneities of a birdcage coil and an eight-channel transmit array coil have been compared through finite difference time domain simulations. The simulation results indicate that the proposed technique can reduce the peak-to-peak $B_1$ inhomogeneity down to one fourth of the transmission with a birdcage coil on the central plane of the human head model at 3 T. The mimicking experiments at 3 T, eight separate experiments with a single coil element activated and image reconstruction by combining the eight images, also show promising results. It is expected that the proposed technique has some advantages over other $B_1$ improving methods in real practice since simple RF switching circuitries are only necessary and electromagnetic coupling between the coil elements is out of concern in its realization.
The G-protein coupled receptor 87 (GPR87) is a recently discovered orphan GPCR which means that the search of their endogenous ligands has been a novel challenge. GPR87 has been shown to be overexpressed in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) or adenocarcinomas in lungs and bladder. The 3D structure of GPR87 was here modeled using two templates (2VT4 and 2ZIY) by a threading method. Functional assignment of GPR87 by SVM revealed that along with transporter activity, various novel functions were predicted. The 3D structure was further validated by comparison with structural features of the templates through Verify-3D, ProSA and ERRAT for determining correct stereochemical parameters. The resulting model was evaluated by Ramachandran plot and good 3D structure compatibility was evidenced by DOPE score. Molecular dynamics simulation and solvation of protein were studied through explicit spherical boundaries with a harmonic restraint membrane water system. A DRY-motif (Asp-Arg-Tyr sequence) was found at the end of transmembrane helix3, where GPCR binds and thus activation of signals is transduced. In a search for better inhibitors of GPR87, in silico modification of some substrate ligands was carried out to form polar interactions with Arg115 and Lys296. Thus, this study provides early insights into the structure of a major drug target for SCCs.

In this paper a novel line interactive UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) using the two 4-leg VSCs and AC line reactor is proposed. The 4-leg Voltage Source Converter(VSC) can use the DC link voltage effectively by the 3-D SVPWM method. Hence the DC battery voltage can be reduced by $15\%$ in comparison to that of the conventional line-interactive UPS system. One VSC is in parallel with the AC line reactor of the power source side, and the other is in series with the load. The parallel 4-leg voltage source inverter controls three-phase line voltage independently in order to control the line reactor current indirectly. It eliminates the neutral line current and the active ripple power of the source side using the pqr theory so that unity power factor and the sinusoidal source current can be achieved even though both the source and the load voltages have zero sequence components. The series 4-leg voltage source inverter compensates the line voltage and allows the load voltage to be balanced and harmonic-free. Both of parallel and series 4-leg voltage source inverters always act as independently controllable voltage sources, so that three-phase output voltage shows a seamless transition to the backup mode. The feasibility of the proposed UPS system has been investigated and verified through computer simulation results.

This paper investigates the application of the anti-windup scheme to control U voltage of the three-phase four-wire active power filter, installed in a three-phase four-wire power system. In order to reduce efficiently the harmonic currents caused by the switching loads and to improve the whole performance of the flower system, the DC voltage of the three-phase four-wire active power filter should be properly controlled. PI controller can be applied to the U voltage controller of the three-phase four-wire active power filter. However, a large error input to PI controller leads to a windup phenomenon which deteriorate the dynamic characteristics of the U voltage controller Therefore, the application of the anti-windup scheme for the DC voltage controller is proposed and the improved performances of the anti-windup U voltage controller are proved through the computer simulation study.
This paper presents a composite control strategy for the active suppression of vibration due to the unknown disturbances, such as external excitation, harmonic effects and control spillover, as well as high-frequency accelerometer measurement noise in the all-clamped stiffened plate. The proposed composite control action based on the modal approach, consists of two contributions including feedback part and feedforward part. The feedback part is the well-known PID controller, which is widely used to increase the structure damping and improve its dynamic performance close to the resonance frequencies. In order to get better performance for vibration suppression, the weight matrixes is optimized by chaos sequence. Then an improved disturbance observer (IDOB) as the feedforward compensation part is developed to enhance the vibration suppression performance of PID under various disturbances and uncertainties. The proposed IDOB can simultaneously estimate the various disturbances dynamically as well as measurement noise acting on the system and suppress them by feedforward compensation design. A rigorous analysis is also given to show why the IDOB can effectively suppress the unknown disturbances and measurement noise. In order to verify the proposed composite control algorithm (IDOB-PID), the dSPACE real-time simulation platform is used and an experimental platform for the all-clamped stiffened plate active vibration control system is set up. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness, practicality and strong anti-disturbances ability of the proposed control strategy.

This paper proposes a design method of an LCL-filter for grid-tied three-level inverter systems. The demand for three-phase PWM inverters in applications such as wind or solar power generation systems has been increase in recent years. To reduce harmonic components caused by switching operation, such inverters are connected to the grid via an LCL filter. Although there are research results for designing LCL-filter, the modulation method should be fully considered to make the filter perform desired cancellation ability with minimized size. This paper presents the design methodology for an LCL-filter that is optimized for SVM switching operations. The simulation and experimental results verify the validity of the LCL-filter designed with proposed method in this paper.

This paper examines the design, implementation characteristics of a folded dipole active integrated antenna. Our goal was to minimize the physical size of RF circuit and its insertion loss, and to make the high frequency tuning easier by directly integrating the ISM(Industrial Scientific & Medical) band power amplifier and antenna. Non-linear model has been used for highly accurate simulation of the power amplifier. The maximum power level was found by using the Load pull method before an impedance matching was achieved. It is found that the total power-added efficiency(PAE) including the driving amplifier was 31.5% and that the transmit power was 13.7 dBm. We also found that the proposed scheme with the smaller antenna as compared with the existing dipole antenna has 23.7 dB total gain including the antenna gain. The suppression of the second harmonic signal to the fundamental signal with respect to the fundamental signal was found to be more than 30 dBc.
