The power spectrum of background EEG is estimated by the Plsarenko Harmonic Decomposition with the stochastic process whlch consists of the nonhamonic sinus Bid and the white nosie. The estimation results are examined and compared with the results from the maximum entropy spectral extimation, and the optimal order of this from the maximum entropy spectral extimation, and the optimal order of this model can be determined from the eigen value's fluctuation of autocorrelation of background EEG. From the comparing results, this method is possible to estimate the power spectrum of background EEG.
The design of a measurement system to perform Harmonic State Estimation(HSE) is a very complex problem. In particular, the number of available harmonic analysis measurement instruments is always limited. Therefore, a systematic procedure is needed to design the optimal placement of measurement points. This paper presents an optimal algorithm of HSE which is based on an optimal placement of measurement points using PSO. This PSO-HSE has been applied to power system for the validation of an optimal algorithm of HSE. The study results have indicated an economical and effective method for optimal placement of measurement points using PSO in the HSE.

A technique to allocate responsibilities among the interested parties in electric power system with harmonic voltage distortion at the point of common coupling (PCC) has been presented. The recursive least-squares technique has been used to estimate the parameters of the Thevenin equivalent load model. The validity of the technique has been verified using a simulation which considered the voltage waveform distortion at the PCC between the utility and two industrial consumers. With the estimated data from the measured voltage and current waveform at the PCC, the individual contributions to the distortion of voltage waveform at an interested harmonic frequency have been calculated and could provide a flexible solution to identify the source of harmonic pollution in distribution systems.
It has been resulted that Lagrange multiplier method with statistical approach was superior to traditional harmonic balance method in identifying the nonlinear loudspeaker parameters when output signals were contaminated with Gaussian random noise. We have known that the displacement-dependent characteristic values of nonlinear parameters identified by traditional harmonic balance method were estimated less than original values by the increase of output noise and the stiffness coefficients were very sensitive to output noise. Also, by the sensitivity analysis we have verified that the harmonic distortions in acoustic radiation was mainly due to nonlinearity of force factor caused by uneven magnetic fields and that reducing the nonlinearity of damping coefficients were very effective for improving second harmonic distrotion of acoustic radiation.
A harmonic quadrature demodulation method to extract the second harmonic component from focused ultrasound signals after a single transmit-receive event is proposed. In the proposed method, the focused ultrasound signal is converted into baseband inphase and quadrature components by multiplying with sine and cosine signals both having twice the center frequency of the transmitted signal and filtering the two modulated signals. The quadrature component is then passed through a Hilbert filter to be added to the inphase component, which leaves only the envelope of the second harmonic component. A novel phase estimation technique is employed in the proposed method to avoid the phase mismatch between the focused signal and the two modulating signals. The proposed method is verified through both theoretical analysis and computer simulations. It is shown that compared to the pulse inversion scheme the proposed method provides almost the same results for stationary targets and significantly improved harmonic to fundamental ratio for moving targets.

This paper proposes a subband filtering technique to the MUSIC and the ESPRIT algorithm for estimating the magnitude and frequency of the harmonics of power signal. In proposed method, the input power signal is decomposed to the odd harmonics and the even harmonics respectively by the filter bank system. The amplitude and the frequency estimation of the decomposed harmonics are carried out using the MUSIC and the ESPRIT method. Subband filtering can reduce the autocorrelation matrix size of input data, and spectrum leakage between adjacent harmonics. Therefore, this subband technique has advantage in computational cost and estimation accuracy compared to fullband MUSIC and ESPRIT. To demonstrate the performance of the method, computer simulations are performed to the synthesized input signal, and experiment results are compared in subband and fullband cases.
We investigate the numerical instability of linear prediction for discrete harmonic spectra of audio signals. It is identified that the eigenvalue spread is very large when discrete harmonic spectra are confined only in a lower part of the entire signal bandwidth. A simple method that redefines the sampling frequency and associate harmonic frequencies is proposed to improve the numerical stability. Simulation results using real audio signals indicate its superior stabilizing ability and improved accuracy in the discrete spectral estimation for both LP and DAP.
The acoustic signal from a distance sound source in an enclosed space often produces reverberant sound that varies depending on room impulse response. The estimation of the level of reverberation or the quality of the observed signal is important because it provides valuable information on the condition of system operating environment. It is also useful for designing a dereverberation system. This paper proposes a speech quality estimation method based on the harmonicity of received signal, a unique characteristic of voiced speech. At first, we show that the harmonic signal modeling to a reverberant signal is reasonable. Then, the ratio between the harmonically modeled signal and the estimated non-harmonic signal is used as a measure of standard room acoustical parameter, which is related to speech clarity. Experimental results show that the proposed method successfully estimates speech quality when the reverberation time varies from 0.2s to 1.0s. Finally, we confirm the superiority of the proposed method in both background noise and reverberant environments.

The occurrence probability (OP) distributions of tide levels using harmonic constants of six tidal gauging stations in Korean coastal zone were estimated and analysed in detail. OP analysis using harmonic constants data of Incheon(Youldo), Mokpo, Yeosu, Pusan, Pohang and Sokcho was carried out and compared with the OP using hourly tidal elevation data which were served through the Internet Homepage by the National Ocean Research Institute. The tidal elevation data were divided by the AHHW (ALLW) value referenced to MSL in order to compare the OP patterns in a relative scale. The OP of the tidal elevation calculated using 38 harmonic tidal constituents relatively well agreed with those of hourly observed tidal elevation data. However, the OP results using four harmonic tidal constituents overestimate the occurrence probability at the peak points and underestimate at the tail-regions of the OP. Especially, the OP patterns of the Sokcho and Pohang tidal gauging stations on the East Sea show totally different patterns and the estimation method using four harmonic constants should be modified and application should be strictly limited on the East Sea areas. The OP patterns are considerably well generated in case of the OP generation using the additional two or three dominant tidal constituents,

A new dead time compensation scheme that can exactly estimate the dead time and inverter nonlinearity under parameter variations is proposed for a PWM inverter-fed PMSM drive. The proposed scheme uses the fact that the sixth harmonic component in total disturbance estimated under the presence of various uncertainties is mainly caused by the dead time and inverter nonlinearity. The total disturbance due to the parameter variations as well as the dead time and inverter nonlinearity is estimated by the adaptive scheme. The sixth harmonic component is extracted from this total disturbance through harmonic analysis. The obtained sixth harmonic is processed by the PI controller to estimate the disturbance caused by the dead time and inverter nonlinearity in the stationary reference frame. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified. Without requiring an additional hardware, the proposed scheme can effectively compensate the dead time and inverter nonlinearity even under the parameter variations.
