  • This paper reports the measurement results of the harmonic currents in the household and office appliances. The harmonic currents of 10 items are measured up to 20th order using the no distortion source. These results can be used as a raw data in determining the harmonic current limit in the household and office appliances.

  • This paper proposes a current harmonic compensation method for the grid-connected inverter, especially caused by the grid impedance. Grid impedance causes low order harmonics in the grid current and deteriorates power quality. This paper analyzes the negative impact of the grid impedance, and proposes an active feedforward compensation method. Proposing method verified through simulation and experiment with 3-phase 1.5kW voltage source inverter prototype.

A Novel Control Scheme Based on the Synchronous Frame for APF

  • For the purpose of enhancing the performance of the shunt active power filter (APF), this paper presents a novel Fast Weighted Compound Control (FWCC) strategy based on the synchronous frame. In this control strategy, the proposed new repetitive controller can work faster and more stably by reducing the internal model cycle and introducing a damping coefficient. In addition, the harmonic detector can be removed to simplify the structure of the APF owing to the improvements. Furthermore, a proportional-integral (PI) controller is added to work in parallel with the repetitive controller by using a weighted ratio. Then, a convergence speed analysis and design algorithm are given in detail. Simulation and experimental results show that the harmonic distortion is reduced from 2.91% to 1.89%. In addition, the content for each of the characteristic harmonic orders has decreased by more than three times.

  • In recent years, both utilities and users have expressed their deep concerns about the quality of electric power. The harmonic is the one of power quality disturbance, it can raise a problem on the power system. In this paper, the increasing application of power electronic equipment [especially (ASDs adjustable speed drives)] on distribution systems has led to a growing concern for harmonic distortion and the resulting impacts on system equipment and operations. The purpose of this study is to calculate the quantity of harmonic voltage by varying the RECT side ASD load and to design the optimal harmonic filter for the elimination of harmonics.

  • Recently, due to increasing the application of power electronic equipment, harmonics generated from the non-liner load are fairy produced. Harmonics can cause a distribution problems such as the overheating of distribution transformer, the breakdown of device and communication interference. Interest about power quality decline of distribution system is very increased. In this paper, we are measured the harmonic voltage and current of distribution system to analyze harmonic characteristics, and it is analyzed Total Harmonic Distortion(HTD). Also, we are modeled distribution system using PSCAD/EMTDC. And it is analyzed harmonic voltage and current in steady-state. The study result have been indicated the utility about harmonics analysis and modeling for distribution system.

  • In reference to this study, Part Ⅰ showed how the system respond to the harmonics originated from electric locomotives. That is, the system response to the harmonics was derived by computational algorithm with numerical formulas in theoretical aspects. However, Real catenary system has complex configuration of conductors and it is an important point that if we can consider the circuit element of catenary conductors as an uniformly distributed RLC element. Moreover, harmonic characteristics in electric locomotive depend on its operational modes. From these point of view, measurements of harmonics are performed for real railway power supply systems under the various operational modes, and spectrum and distortion analyses in measurement data are described.

  • The power quality of Single Phase Grid-Connected Inverters (GCIs) has received much attention with the increasing number of Distributed Generation (DG) systems. However, the performance of single phase GCIs get degraded due to several factors such as the grid voltage harmonics, the dead time effect, and the turn ON/OFF of the switches, which causes the harmonics at the output of GCIs. Therefore, it is not easy to satisfy the harmonic standards such as IEEE 519 and P1547 without the help of harmonic compensator. To meet the harmonic standards a certain kind of harmonic controller needs to be added to the current control loop to effectively mitigate the low order harmonics. In this paper, the harmonic compensation is performed using a novel robust harmonic compensation method based on Digital Lock-in Amplifier (DLA). In the proposed technique, DLAs are used to extract the amplitude and phase information of the harmonics from the output current and compensate it by using a simple PI controller in the feedforward manner. In order to show the superior performance of the proposed harmonic compensation technique, it is compared with those of conventional harmonic compensation methods in terms of the effectiveness of harmonic elimination, complexity, and implementation. The validity of the proposed harmonic compensation techniques for the single phase GCIs is verified through the experimental results with a 5kW single phase GCI.   • A method to measure the distortions of the loudspeaker at low frequencies without an anechoic chamber is proposed. This method utilizes the fact that the n-th harmonic distortion outside the enclosure is boosted by 40log n dB compared to that inside the enclosure. By compensating for the effect of standing waves occuring inside the enclosure, it is possible to predict the distortions for wide frequency ranges below the first break-up frequency of the diaphragm. The method is applicable to the intermodulation distortion as well.

  • This paper describes the design and the simulation of a frequency doubler for millimeter-wave applications using distributed amplifier technology. The designed frequency multiplier has 10% bandwidth at 58GHz output. This paper investigates nonlinear analysis of pHEMT frequency multipliers utilizing AM-AM and AM-PM distortion characteristics of frequency doubler. The conversion loss is 2.1dB and harmonic suppression is larger than 18.6dBc with 5dBm input power

  • The musical tone of clarinet was synthesized by using nonlinear distortion method. In this method, the control of dynamic spectrum and harmonic contents can be easily attained. The method can be also applied to synthesis of musical tones of many other tonal instruments.
