  • Physical wedges still can be used as missing tissue compensators or filters to alter the shape of isodose curves in a target volume to reach an optimal radiotherapy plan without creating a hotspot. The aim of this study was to investigate the dosimetric properties of physical wedges filters such as off-axis photon fluence, photon spectrum, output factor and half value layer. The photon beam quality of a 6 MV Primus Siemens modified by 150 and 450 physical wedges was studied with BEAMnrc Monte Carlo (MC) code. The calculated present depth dose and dose profile curves for open and wedged photon beam were in good agreement with the measurements. Increase of wedge angle increased the beam hardening and this effect was more pronounced at the heal region. Using such an accurate MC model to determine of wedge factors and implementation of it as a calculation algorithm in the future treatment planning systems is recommended.

  • We developed a mass-memory chip by staking 1 Gbit double data rate 2 (DDR2) synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) memory core up to 4 Gbit storage for future satellite missions which require large storage for data collected during the mission execution. To investigate the resistance of the chip to the space radiation environment, we have performed heavy-ion-driven single event experiments using Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba medium energy beam line. The radiation characteristics are presented for the DDR2 SDRAM (K4T1G164QE) fabricated in 56 nm technology. The statistical analyses and comparisons of the characteristics of chips fabricated with previous technologies are presented. The cross-section values for various single event categories were derived up to ~80 $MeVcm^2/mg$. Our comparison of the DDR2 SDRAM, which was fabricated in 56 nm technology node, with previous technologies, implies that the increased degree of integration causes the memory chip to become vulnerable to single-event functional interrupt, but resistant to single-event latch-up.

  • Recently, E-glass fiber is the one of most widely used ceramic fiber for aerospace fields. Recycling technology for waste of wind power blades is arising issue for reasons of low manageability and high cost of wastes. Though glass fiber is perfectly dissolved in hydrofluoric acid, low cost for recycling and harmless to human is important for recycling of blades. Chemically melted glass fiber will be used as different purpose like accelerator of hardening for shotcrete. In this study, dissolution process of glass fiber is tested in NaOH solution at low temperatures. In addition, difference in diameter reduction of glass fiber is observed by various alkali concentration and reaction times, treatment temperatures using FE-SEM.

  • Nowadays, Precast Concrete is adopted on most of construction, because of shortening construction period and good quality. In precast concrete, steam curing is necessary for getting proper strength, but it causes much CO2 and economc. Therefore, on this study, by using type III cement and hardening accelerator, early compressive strength was shown 13MPa for 6hr. From the result, removal form could be shorten. Furthermore, annual CO2 was reduced as much as 24% and also annual cost was decreased as much as 12%.

  • This study is to investigate the temperature curve and development of compressive strength due to the curing conditions and to evaluate the optimum curing condition of test specimens showing the same development of strength to that of real structures in cold weather. The results of temperature curve with curing conditions in mock-up tests showed the trend of decrease plain concrete with insulation form, plain concrete with heating, concrete with accelerator for freeze protection, and control concrete in turn. The strength development of plain concrete of inside and outside of shelter showed the very slow strength gains due to early freezing, but that of concrete with accelerator for freeze protection showed the gradual increase of strength with time. From this, it is clear that accelerator for freeze protection has the effects of reducing the freezing temperature and accelerating the hardening under low temperature. Strength test results of small specimens embedded in members and located in insulation boxes at the site are similar to that of cores drilled from the members at the same ages, thus it is clear that these curing methods are effective for evaluation in-place concrete strength.

  • Recently. as the alternatives to preserve environment such as effective usage of wastes or unusable resources are drawing attentions, researches and measures for the two tasks, which are reuse of waste wood and development of eco-friendly materials, are being examined and established in various fields. However, they are still insufficient. Therefore, in this study, for the efficient application of waste woods and eco-friendly effects, mortar was produced using sawdust af the waste wood and mineral material cement for combination, in order to produce inorganic boards using waste woods, which were made when sawing. The present study purposed to analyze the physical and dynamic characteristics of woody cement boards, which were made by modifying water-cement ratio for each wood inclusion rate based on a hardening-accelerator inclusion rate set in previous studies and, based on the findings. to provide basic data about the physical properties of inorganic boards made of waste wood, in order to Produce woody cement boards using waste wood, which has problems in being used in the manufacturing of woody cement boards.

  • In this study, we analyzed the effects of TID(Total Ionizing Dese) and TREE(Transient Radiation Effects on Electronics) on nMOSFET and pMOSFET fabricated by 0.18um CMOS process. The size of nMOSFET and pMOSFET is 100um/1um(W/L). The TID test was conducted up to 1 Mrad(Si) with a gamma-ray(Co-60). During the TID test, the nMOSFET generated leakage current proportional to the applied dose, but that of the pMOSFET was remained in a steady state. The TREE test was conducted at TEST LINAC in Pohang Accelerator Laboratory with a maximum dose-rate of $3.16{\times}10^8rad(si)/s$. In that test nMOESFET generated a large amount of photocurrent at a maximum of $3.16{\times}10^8rad(si)/s$. Whereas, pMOSFETs showed high TREE immunity with a little amount of photocurrent at the same dose rate. Based on the results of this experiment, we will progress the research of the radiation hardening for CMOS unit devices.

  • The ultrasonic waves for monitoring concrete materials have been used to investigate the setting and hardening process of concrete. This paper presents the application of bender elements for monitoring the hardening properties of Controlled Low Strength Material (CLSM) and the characterization of shear waves in CLSM according to curing time. To ensure the early age properties and flow, the CLSM consists of CSA cement, sand, silt, water, fly ash, and accelerator. In addition, three different type specimens according to fine contents are mixed. A couple of bender elements are installed at the wall of measurement cell and the CLSM specimen are prepared at the measurement cell for 28 days. Experimental results show that the resonant frequency and shear wave velocities increase with an increase in the curing time, regardless of the fine contents. Up to ten hours, the amplitudes of shear waves also increase, and the resonant frequency and shear wave velocities at the same time increase as the fine contents increase. The shear wave measurement technique using the bender elements may be effectively used to evaluate the hardening properties of CLSM along the curing time.

  • The research reported herein is concerned with the model testing of piles socketed in soft rock which was simulated by cement, plaster, sand, water and concrete hardening accelerator. Model tests on a single pile socketed in simulated soft rock under axial cyclic loading were conducted and the bearing capacity and accumulated deformation characteristics under different static, and cyclic loads were studied by using a device which combined oneself-designed test apparatus with a dynamic triaxial system. The accumulated deformation of the pile head, and the axial force, were measured by LVDT and strain gauges, respectively. Test results show that the static load ratio (SLR), cyclic load ratio (CLR), and the number of cycles affect the accumulated deformation, cyclic secant modulus of pile head, and ultimate bearing capacity. The accumulated deformation increases with increasing numbers of cycles, however, its rate of growth decreases and is asymptotic to zero. The cyclic secant modulus of pile head increases and then decreases with the growth in the number of cycles, and finally remains stable after 50 cycles. The ultimate bearing capacity of the pile is increased by about 30% because of the cyclic loading thereon, and the axial force is changed due to the applied cyclic shear stress. According to the test results, the development of accumulated settlement is analysed. Finally, an empirical formula for accumulated settlement, considering the effects of the number of cycles, the static load ratio, the cyclic load ratio and the uniaxial compressive strength, is proposed which can be used for feasibility studies or preliminary design of pile foundations on soft rock subjected to cyclic loading.
