Design and Implementation of Hybrid Hard Disk Simulator based on Linux Environment (Linux 기반의 하이브리드 하드 디스크 시뮬레이터 설계 및 구현)

  • In order to resolve mechanical limit in HDD, recently, the hybrid hard disk combining HDD and a flash memory was launched. In this paper, we propose a simulator for hybrid hard disk which considers redirection, flushing and spin-down function to complement the difference between HDD and hybrid hard disk. The simulator was implemented in linux kernel 2.6.20 by modifying system calls related with file system. The experiment shows that the power consumption of hybrid hard disk is 47% smaller than that of hard disk in laptop PC.

  • This treatise wishes to estimate internet performance using PLC(Power Line Communication) instead of use existing exclusive line. Hard problem of many communication network mountings and work does solution low class informer with power line simply. If use net by power line with this, can get into enormous gains in side of early expense as well as hard problem of work. This treatise investigated validity about if investigate using power line what level internet utilization can take advantage of, and can activate internet by hereafter first term.

Class, Masculinity, Crime: Sociology of Hard-Boiled Detective Fiction (계급, 남성성, 범죄 -하드보일드 추리소설의 사회학)

  • This paper argues that the hard-boiled detective fiction is not a commercialized imitation of the classical detective novels but a revisionist detective fiction. Producing a radically different type of detectives from the traditional ones, the hard-boiled detective fiction provides a new, opposing paradigm of criminality, class, and masculinity to the classical detective fiction. Classical detective novels, through the heroic portrayal of high-class detectives capturing and punishing lower-class criminals, reassure class hierarchy. Hard-boiled detective novels, however, representing the ruling classes as the root of social oppression and political corruption, define the power elite as criminals. Whereas the classical detective fiction displays aristocratic masculinity, the hard-boiled detective fiction embodies working-class masculinity. The classical detective is generally represented as a genteel dilettante solving the mysteries of crimes, in his leisure time, through logical reasoning and scientific techniques. The hard-boiled detective, however, solves crimes by using violence and earns his living from catching criminals. The hard-boiled detective also maintains an absolute independence by keeping a distance from all forms of authority and connection. The representation of hard-boiled detective as a tough, rebellious, independent guy can be interpreted as a reaction to the advent of corporate capitalism and the rise of labor control in the 1920s.

  • There have been happening small and big fires due to the various causes in the thermal power plants which are the high risk buildings with the high possibility of big sizes of accidents, so the people in the power plants distribute the workers "the site action manuals in thermal power plants" and try to minimize the rate of disasters like fires through the regular education and training. However, in the Five Thermal Power Plants in Korea, there are no the standard of "the site action manuals" and Furthermore, the present educational manuals are mostly the hard copies with poor readability. So the standardization of the manuals are definitely needed. Therefore, in this research, we proceed the standardization of the manuals for the five areas of the site action manual s in the thermal power plants which are oil fires, electric fires, building fires, facility fires and gas leaking reaction SOP to improve the reaction power on the disasters in the power plants which are the national significant infrastructures, thus by using the manual, we propose the safety education contents for the thermal power plants based on the visualization technology using story-viewing method to complement the hard copy type disaster manuals.

  • A loop power system has a nonlinear characteristics. Also it is very hard to analyse through a equation if a discontinuous characteristic of the ULTC is added to a system. However, the problem which is hard to analyse by equations can acquire the useful result with what use the genetic algorithm (GA) which is a multi-point search program. In this paper, we proved through a simulation that the proposed method can reduce an operation frequency of tap changers and improving the quality of voltage of the buses by decreasing the deviation between the actual voltage and the reference voltage through the coordinated control of the ULTC that use GA in the loop power system.

Partial Matched Filter for Low Power and Fast Code Acquisition of DSSS-CPFSK Signals

  • A partial matched filter (PMF) for semi-coherent correlation code acquisition of the DSSS-CPFSK signal is proposed. It is a calculation-reduced structure of the hard-limited signal based FIR filter, yet its code acquisition time is equal to that of the hard-limited signal based FIR filter. The PMF eliminates duplicate calculations by utilizing the characteristic that the hard-limited DSSS-CPFSK signal has same value in several consecutive samples. For example, the PMF can achieve about 95% reduction in gate size, as compared to the hard-limited signal based FIR filter, when the modulation index of the DSSS-CPFSK signal is equal to 1.5 and the sample rate is equal to 40 sample/chip.

  • Flow field in a hard disk drive has been predicted numerically. Theoretical model was constructed based on a commercially available hard disk drive with 40 Mega byte capacity. Since the gap between disk tip and shroud is not homogeneous in real hard disk drive, three kinds of gap size have been tested as computational model. The discussion has been made on the circumferential velocity, radial velocity, and pressure fields. As a result, the average shear stress on the disk surface was reduced as the gap size decreased. This means that the shroud should be designed compactly to reduce power consumption of the spindle motor.

  • The Competitiveness of Hybrid hard disk drive(H-HDD) for solid state disk(SSD) comes from both lower power consumption and higher reading speed. This paper suggests a prefetching scheme that can improve the performance of Non-Volatile cache(NVCache) memory installed on the H-HDD through prefetching disk blocks as well as files to the NVCache. The proposed scheme makes the highly used data such as booting files copy to the NVCache as an unit of file and the frequently accessed blocks copy to the NVCache. This prefetching is done on the idle time of disk queue and the priorities of prefetched target blocks are based on both time and spatial locality of blocks. Experiments results show that the suggested method can improve response time of H-HDD and also lower the power consumption.

  • The microporous carbon derived from PVDC-resin by a simple heat-treatment under an inert atmosphere exhibits a reasonable specific capacitance for a supercapacitor's electrode. However, the capacitance was rapidly decreased at high charge/discharge rate. The micropores present in an electrode surface hinder the entrance of an electrolyte ion onto the entire surface. To induce the meso-sized pores during the carbonization of PVDC-resin, Mg(OH)2 was utilized as a hard template. The porous carbon made from the mixture of PVD-Cresin and Mg(OH)2 include mesopores as well as micropores. The induced mesopores does not homogeneously distributed on the entire surface of the synthesized carbon. The PVDC-resin and Mg(OH)2 are dissolved in the dimethylformamide for the hard template to evolve the pores on the synthesized carbon uniformly. The carbon made from PVDC-resin with solvent and a hard template contains mostly mesopores resulting in the high power performance. The reduced amount of solvent in the precursor derives the carbon with high specific surface area and high power density.

Characteristic Properties of TiN Thin Films Prepared by DC Magnetron Sputtering Method for Hard Coatings (Hard Coating 응용을 위한 DC 마그네트론 스퍼터링 방법을 이용하여 증착한 TiN 박막의 특성에 대한 연구)

  • Titanium nitride (TiN) thin films are widely used for hard coatings due to their superior hardness, chemical stability, low friction and good adhesion properties. In this study, we investigated the effect of DC power on the characteristics of TiN thin films deposited on Si and glass substrates by DC magnetron sputtering using TiN target. We made TiN films of 300 nm thickness with various DC powers. The structural properties of films are investigated by x-ray diffractions (XRD) and tribological properties are measured by nano-indentation, nano-scratch tester. The rms roughness was measured by atomic forced microscopy (AFM). In the result, TiN films had the smooth surface and exhibited (111) directions with the increase of DC Power. Also, especially in case of 175 W DC power, TiN film exhibited the maximum hardness about 8 GPa, and the critical load near 25.
