Metallocene Catalysts on Carbon-based Nano-materials

  • Transition metal-based organometallic complexes have shown great talents as a catalyst in various reactions. Designing organic molecules and coordinating them to such active centers have been a promising route to control the catalytic natures. Metallocene, which has transition metal atoms sandwiched by aromatic rings, is one of the representative systems for organometallic catalysts. Group 4-based metallocene catalysts have been most commonly used for the production of polyolefins, which have great world-wide markets in the real life. Graphenes and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were composed of extended $sp^2$ carbon networks, showing high electron mobility as well as have extremely large steric bulkiness relative to metal centers. We were inspired by these characteristics of such carbon-based nano-materials and assumed that they could intimately interact with active centers of metallocene catalysts. We examined this hypothesis and, recently, reported that CNTs dramatically changed catalytic natures of group 4-based catalysts when they formed hybrid systems with such catalysts. In conclusion, we produced hybrid materials composed of group-4 based metallocenes, $Cp_2ZrCl_2$ and $Cp_2TiCl_2$, and carbon-based nano-materials such as RGO and MWCNT. Such hybrids were generated via simple adsorption between Cp rings of metallocenes and graphitic surfaces of graphene/CNT. The hybrids showed interesting catalytic behaviors for ethylene polymerizations. Resulting PEs had significantly increased Mw relative to those produced from free metallocene-based catalytic systems, which are not adsorbed on carbon-based nano-materials. UHMWPEs with extremely high Mw were obtained at low Tp.

  • Objectives : The lower sea points of the six bowels is one of the most useful acupuncture prescription in the treatment for diseases related with six organs. There have been many studies on the effects of each acupoint, but it is difficult to find a systemic review about the whole of it. The purpose of this study is to review the lower sea points of the six bowels and investigate the background of the induction of that. Materials and Methods : 1. The authors performed systemic review about the lower sea points of the six bowels using related-literatures such as Neijing and Nanjing. 2. We investigated the background of the induction and the necessity through the meaning of the character Hop (合). We thought the clinical usefulness of that. Results and Conclusions : The lower sea points of the six bowels had been made for the supplement of the sea point of the five transport points and it might be possible to substitute the sea point of the five transport points with the lower sea points of the six bowels owing to the clinical usefulness of the lower sea points of the six bowels.

Identification of 1,531 cSNPs from Full-length Enriched cDNA Libraries of the Korean Native Pig Using in Silico Analysis

  • Sequences from the clones of full-length enriched cDNA libraries serve as valuable resources for functional genomics related studies, genome annotation and SNP discovery. We analyzed 7,392 high-quality chromatograms (Phred value ${\geq}$30) obtained from sequencing the 5' ends of clones derived from full-length enriched cDNA libraries of Korean native pigs including brainstem, liver, cerebellum, neocortex and spleen libraries. In addition, 50,000 EST sequence trace files obtained from GenBank were combined with our sequences to identify cSNPs in silico. The process generated 11,324 contigs, of which 2,895 contigs contained at least one SNP and among them 610 contigs had a minimum of one sequence from Korean native pigs. Of 610 contigs, we randomly selected 262 contigs and performed in silico analysis for the identification of cSNPs. From the results, we identified 1,531 putative coding single nucleotide polymorphisms (cSNPs) and the SNP detection frequency was one SNP per 465 bp. A large-scale sequencing result of clones from full-length enriched cDNA libraries and identified cSNPs will serve as a useful resource to functional genomics related projects such as a pig HapMap project in the near future.

  • In WRC-2000, Resolution 734 was adopted to study the use of high altitude platform station(HAPS) operating in the bands above 30GHz. Therefore, frequency sharing feasibility between a new HAPS systems and an existing terrestrial fixed-service(FS) system should be analyzed primarily. In this paper, interference effects from the HAPS system into the radio-relay station are analyzed in terms of two cases; one is the interference distribution from the power-flux density(PFD) of HAPS airships, and the other the interference power from the ground stations. In conclusion, the new PFD criteria different from the exiting satellite system should be required, and the coordinated distance between the HAPS nadir and the radio-relay station should be 60km ∼ 253km for P$\sub$HG/ = -50dBW/MHz of transmitting power spectral density to share the new HAPS system into the existing FS system.

A Study on the Sandbar and Vegetation Area Alteration at the Downstream of Dam (댐 하류하천의 사주와 식생 면적 변화에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, area variation, index and degree of alteration, temporal variation of the sandbar and vegetation were analyzed using aerial photographs during the pre and post dam construction at the downstream of dam. Analysis result of the sandbar area was decreased 17 %. Sandbar area was 38 % of the channel areas at the pre dam, but 21 % at the post dam. Alteration indies of the sandbar were $-0.9921{\sim}2.9528$. Analysis result of the vegetation area was increased 13 %. Vegetation area was 11 % of the channel areas at the pre dam, but 24 % at the post dam. Alteration indies of the vegetation were $-0.8908{\sim}12.0736$. Temporal variation of the sandbar and vegetation were analyized at the An Dong dam, Im Ha dam, Hap Chun dam. Analysis result of the sandbar was decreased $42,600m^2$ per year, but vegetation was increased $51,700m^2$ per year. Sandbar area was decreasing more fast than vegetation area increasing.

A case report of dysfunctional uterine bleeding with abdominal pain (복통(腹痛)을 동한한 붕루(崩漏) 환자 치험(治驗) 1례)

  • Purpose : Dysfunctional uterine bleeding is an abnormal uterine bleeding without an organic disease. A hormone therapy or anti-depressant medicine is chosen to treat dysfunctional uterine bleeding. However sometimes it didn't work. Hysterectomy is recommended to stop bleeding but a lot of women are afraid of it. The purpose of this study is to show the possibility of oriental medical treatment for dysfunctional uterine bleeding in this case report. Methods : The 30-year-old female patient who had suffering from uterine bleeding was treated with hormone therapy and anti-depressant medicine. However she was bleeding again. She had no organic disease in some medical examination, finally she was recommended a hysterectomy. But she didn't want the operation. In addition, she started acute abdominal pain. She wanted a oriental medical treatment and we treated her from the May 14th 2005 to the June 4th 2005 in admission. We used Yikweseungyangtang(益胃升陽湯), Ojuksan(五積散), Kwibitang hap Gyoesamultang(歸婢湯合膠艾四物湯) for herb-medication. In acupuncture therapy, ST36(Chok-Samni 足三里) SP1(Eunbek, 隱白) SP6(Samumgyo, 三陰交) SP10(Hyulhae, 血海) Liv1(Daedon, 大敦) Liv3(Taechung, 太衝) LI4(Hapgok, 合谷) was selected. In moxa therapy CV4(Kwanwon, 關元), CV6(Kihae, 氣海), CVl2(Chung-wan, 中脘) was used. Results : After oriental medical treatment for 22 days, she stopped uterine bleeding and recovered her health. Conclusion : Oriental medical treatment is expected to have an effect on dysfuctional uterine bleeding with abdominal pain.

Phylogenetic Analysis by RFLP and Sequencing of Mitochondrial DNA in a Korean Population

  • Analysis of molecular nature of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) could be powerful marker for anthropological studies of modern populations. While population genetic studies on mtDNA have been reported for several ethnic groups, no such study has been documented for the Korean population. We surveyed mtDNA polymorphisms in the HVS I of noncoding D-loop region and its upstream region from 430 unrelated healthy Korean population by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) and direct sequencing analysis. PCR product with 2,790 bp spanning the specific mtDNA region (mt13715-16504) was subjected to RFLP analysis using 6 restriction enzyme (Hinf I, Hae III, Alu I, Dde I, Mbo I, Rsa I). On the PAUP analysis of PCR-RFLP results, 38 mtDNA haplotypes (Hap 1-38) were detected in the Korean populations, which were classified into 11 haplogroups (Grp 1-11) of related haplotypes encompassing all 38 haplotypes. In comparison of sequencing data with Anderson's reference sequence, the transition type was more prevalent than the transversion type. Insertions or deletions were not found. In addition, three of the polymorphic sites (A16240C, A16351G, G16384A) in HVS-I region are determined newly. The polymorphic sites were distributed randomly in the region, though the frequency at each site was variable. Thus, this research might be required for the genealogical study of Orientals.

The same Herb-Medication in the Sasang-Yihak-Chobonguen and Dongyi-Soose-Bowon Gapobon is 4 and the concept in the Sasang-Yihak-Chobonguen is succeded to Dongyi-Soose-Bowon Gapobon 4. The same Herb-Medication in the Dongyi-Soose-Bowon Gapobon and Dongyi-Soose-Bowon Chopanbon is 7 and the Change between the Dongyi-Soose-Bowon Gapobon and Dongyi-Soose-Bowon Chopanbon is the cognition between the Pyozeung(表證) and Lizeung(裏證) in the disease 5. There is no same Herb-Medication in that three books. This result can prove that the Dongyi-Soose-Bowon Chopanbon's New Herb-Medication(新定方) was made in the last stage of Sassng-Yihak

Effects of Acupuncture at Hap-Kok(LI4) on the Skin Temperature Changes of face divided by 17 area randomly in Man (합곡(合谷) 자침(刺鍼)이 면부(面部)의 구역별(區域別) 영역(領域) 온도변화(溫度變化)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • This study was undertaken to examine the effects of acupuncture at LI4 on temperature changes of the facial surface randomly divided into 17 areas. The volunteers who participating in this study had taken rest for 20 - 30 min in room temperature ($23-25^{\circ}C$) before acupuncture and informed them what to prohibit smoking, drinking and drug for the previous one day. The Temperature of facial surface was measured by using Digital Thermography IR 2000 (Meridian Co., Korea) at 5 min before and immediately, 5, 10, and 15 min after acupuncture on LI4. The results of this study showed that there was no significancy in thermal changes of facial surface randomly divided into 17 areas, but different significantly in the aggregate changes at the difference of the thermal changes on facial surface (p < 0.001). The difference of aggregate change was increased time-dependent and the changes at 1st, 3rd, and 13th area were comparatively smaller than the other areas. However, the changes at 6th, 8th, 10th and 15th area were more increased than the others. This study suggests that acupuncture at LI 4 help human being increase the reaction to maintain thermal homeostasis in facial surface and the ability to treat at these area's disease.

  • Today, there are many high speed data access systems that provide the truly "anytime and anywhere" services. Especially, HSDPA (High Speed Data Packet Access), one of the main third generation mobile communication systems, provides 14.4Mbps maximum data throughput. However, HSDPA will fail to provide high data throughput in hostile multipath fading environments due to lack of LOS (Line of Sight). HAPS (High Altitude Platform Station) is one of the solutions to this problem. HAPS system not only provides Los, but it can also provide high data rate services to the conventional terrestrial systems. This paper proposes HAPS-HSDPA system model and compares performance of HSDPA and HAPS-HSDPA.
