  • HMIP, an extending version of MIP, makes the signaling traffic low, thereby reducing the packet losses and delay. However, it still has the same problem in MIPv6 in the case of macro mobility, though it can reduce the out-signaling in the case of a micro mobility, a regional mobility with the MAP protocol. To overcome this problem, this paper proposes a handover which exploits an address insurance with selective buffering for the HMIP macro handover. This scheme can decrease the lost packets and the delay time and provide better performance for high QoS traffic and real-time multimedia transmission. The simulation result shows that the proposed scheme makes the transmission delay time and the lost packets smaller than the existing schemes.

  • In this paper. we propose an adaptive handover scheme in wireless network The proposed handover scheme is a hybrid type of virtual path extension and rerouting. The proposed handover scheme chooses the virtual path management scheme according to the service QoS instead of the network topology which is used in the previous hybrid handover schemes. The proposed scheme supports the seamless service and small buffering during virtual path rerouting handover through the multicasting service. To evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. we compute the number of signaling message used for handover and perform computer simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides more efficiency in the handover delay and seamless service than the previous methods.

  • In this paper fast mobile multicast handover mechanism based on IEEE 802.21 MIH (Media Independent Handover) is proposed. We solve long multicast handover delay time caused by L3 movement detection mechanism of the existing mobile multicast methods. The proposed architecture adopts multicast manager concept to MIH framework in order to efficiently perform mobile multicast handover, and adds the new MIH messages dedicated for mobile multicast. Since multicast channel zapping operations of mobile users effectively make a mobile terminal handover, the architecture should consider the situations. Multicast network selection algorithm is designed by means of terminal speed and fair selection algorithm named AHP/GRA. Finally the performance of the proposed architecture against the legacy mobile multicast mechanisms is evaluated in terms of signaling cost and multicast handover delay time.

  • The binding update of MIPv6 which basically makes a route optimization lets MN bring about high signaling traffic, packet loss and delay. HMIPv6, which introduces the MAP protocol, makes the signaling traffic low, thereby reducing the packet losses and delay. However, it still has the same problem in MIPv6 in the case of macro mobility. This paper proposes HMIPv6 with the address insurance policy. It makes MAP prepare LCoA and RCoA before the macro handover happens. When it happens, MN is able to use them after the registration is done in the foreign network. The perormance can be improved because MAP is composed to assure the address in advance. In addition the MAP sends the BU message during the handover, thereby making the proposed scheme better. The simulation shows that the proposed scheme is about 33% shorter than HMIPv6 in the handover delay and about 22% less than FMIPv6 in the packet loss.

  • One of the key elements in the emerging, packet-based long term evolution (LTE) cellular systems is the deployment of multiple femtocells for the improvement of coverage and data rate. However, arbitrary overlaps in the coverage of these femtocells make the handover operation more complex and challenging. As the existing handover strategy of LTE systems considers only carrier to interference plus noise ratio (CINR), it often suffers from resource constraints in the target femtocell, thereby leading to handover failure. In this paper, we propose a new efficient, multi-objective handover solution for LTE cellular systems. The proposed solution considers multiple parameters like signal strength and available bandwidth in the selection of the optimal target cell. This results in a significant increase in the handover success rate, thereby reducing the blocking of handover and new sessions. The overall handover process is modeled and analyzed by a three-dimensional Markov chain. The analytical results for the major performance metrics closely resemble the simulation results. The simulation results show that the proposed multi-objective handover offers considerable improvement in the session blocking rates, session queuing delay, handover latency, and goodput during handover.

  • This paper addresses the Proxy Mobile IPv6 (PMIP) handover using bicasting in mobile/wireless networks. The bicasting scheme can be used to support the PMIP handover, which tends to waste the network resources of wireless links and incurs data losses during handover. We propose an enhanced scheme of PMIP handover, called the partial bicasting with buffering for PMIP (PBB-PMIP). In the PBB-PMIP handover, the bicasting is performed in the "partial" region between the Local Mobility Anchor (LMA) and the Mobile Access Gateway (MAG), when a mobile node is in the handover area. The data packets are buffered at the new MAG during handover to reduce data losses and are then forwarded to mobile nodes after handover. By ns-2 simulations, the proposed PBB-PMIP scheme is compared with the existing schemes of PMIP and PMIP with bicasting. The proposed scheme can benefit from the reduction of handover delay and packet loss, and the effective use of the network resources of wireless links, as compared to the existing handover schemes.

  • As the service continuity of mobile multimedia service is affected by packet loss and delay, the efficient handover control is essentially required. This paper proposes a handover admission control scheme to satisfy service continuity of mobile multimedia services in LTE-Advanced System. In this method, based on context information of mobile terminal and base station changes, the sequence diagrams between the function modules for controlling new sessions and ISHO sessions are proposed. Simulation is done for performance analysis with the measure of transmission delay and packet loss rate.

  • There has been increasing interest in broadband services to mobile terminals. Wireless ATM will be used to support broadband services for future generation mobile service. We propose an algorithm for handover in wireless ATM LANs. We have studied how to treat the loop cancellation and optimization of path extension handover scheme, and present path optimization algorithms : polyangular loop cancellation and triangular loop cancellation. We express the location of MT(mobile terminal) by direction angle, and the direction angles can be converted into direction vectors. Using direction vectors, we can find the current optimal path of MT. The analysis and the experimental results show that the proposed scheme provides the better performance than that of anchor rerouting scheme in average handover delay, handover disruption delay, and buffer requirements.

  • This paper proposes a new handover scheme to minimize handover delay and signaling costs, using the fact that a new packet forwarding path could be same or similar to the old one in Mobile IPv4. In the proposed scheme a foreign agent estimates the correlation between the new and old routing paths by using routing costs after receiving a registration request message from a mobile node. If the new packet forwarding path could be same or similar to the old one, the mobile node can receive packets from its old foreign agent without registering its new location with its home agent or correspondent node. The performance analysis shows that the proposed scheme can efficiently reduce handover delay and signaling costs.

  • EPON is proposed to be used in an infrastructure of the next generation wireless network. EPON can reduce fiber deployment cost and easily decrease the occurrence of layer-3 handover by introducing group cell concept. An EPON-based layer-2 handover algorithm is suggested for fast handover. The time-delay of the control signals are examined using simulation.
