In this paper, we develop the image transfer remote maintenance monitoring system for hand held device which can compensate defects of human mistake. The human mistakes always happen when the worker communicate information each other to check and maintenance the equipment of the power plant under bad circumstance such as small place and long distance in power plant. A worker couldn't converse with other when in noisy place like Power plant. So, we make some hand device for handy size and able to converse in noisy place. The developed system can have improvement of productivity through increasing plant operation time. And developed system is composed of advanced H/W(hard ware) system and S/W(soft ware)system. The H/W system consist of media server unit, communication equipment with hand held device, portable camera, mike and head set. The advanced s/w system consist of data base system, client pc(personal computer) real time monitoring system which has server GUI(graphic user interface) program, wireless monitoring program and wire ethernet communication program. The client GUI program is composed of total solution program as pc camera program, and phonetic conversation program etc.. We analyzed the required items and investigated applicable part in the image transfer remote maintenance monitoring system with hand held device. Also we investigated linkage of communication protocol for developed prototype, developed software tool of two-way communication and realtime recording skill of voice with image. We confirmed the efficiency by the field test in preventive maintenance of plant power.
Korean society frenzy about ubiquitous computing is in a rapid change into so called 'Nomadic' information environment. In many previous studies, a number of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors were empirically found to affect users' continuance to use mobile hand-held devices. However, the role of device attachment, a new intrinsic motivation factor with which users are known to care about their own mobile devices personally, in determining users' post-adoption behavior was not explored yet to the full scale. To fill the research void like this, this study proposes a new research model in which device attachment as well as perceived value are positively linked to satisfaction and continuance to use. The statistical results obtained by applying PLS to the valid 137 questionnaires showed that the device attachment has stronger positive influence on satisfaction and continuance to use than the perceived value. Therefore, a practical implication is suggested thai the mobile devices need 10 be designed in a way of arousing users' device attachment more strongly.

Mobile tour guide applications help tourists to search for and visit their surrounding POIs(Points of Interest) of their locations and to obtain their guide information. With the development of wearable devices like smart watches and wearable glasses, people using multiple mobile devices are increasing; a tourist may use a hand-held device, a wearable device or both to obtain tour information. However, most mobile tour guides using mobile devices provide the tour information with little consideration of their hand-held and wearable characteristics. In particular, a tourist with multiple mobile devices who search for the tour information from multiple mobile devices must input their intention separately to each device. To alleviate these problems, we propose a mobile tour guide system with the following features: one is to reduce redundant user input by sharing the touring context between hand-held and wearable devices; the other is to present tour information according to capabilities and usage pattern of the devices. The proposed system guides tourists by complementing disadvantage of the devices and also minimizes user interaction between applications and tourists.

The method to improve the detection sensitivity of Hand-held XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) device currently being developed is discussed. To minimize the loss of the intensity due to atmospheric gas molecules, the vacuum module, which can be filled with atmospheric or He gas, between the sample and the detector was installed. And the change of the detection sensitivity was measured in a vacuum and in the He gas-filled state. As a result, the following three important results were obtained; Firstly, XRF intensity was increased 2~4 times in the low energy range (3~4 keV). It is a very important result because the enhancement of the detection sensitivity means shortening of the detection time in Hand-held XRF device. Secondly, the possibility of detection of the elements less than 3 keV in emission energy was confirmed. Thirdly, the absorption by atmospheric gas molecules can be minimized without vacuum- sealed vessel in Hand-held XRF device, if the vacuum module filled with He gas is used. We concluded that all of three results are very meaningful in the development of a Hand-held XRF device.

In this paper, a vibrotactile pad system, T-mobile, is developed to provide vibrotactile cues for hand-held devices. A grooved and slim design is adapted to the back-side plane of the T-mobile, and the contact part consists of 12 vibrotactile panels which can operate independently and separately. To be isolated among vibrotactile actuators, the surface of the cover is divided into several pieces. Each vibrating module consists of a linear resonant actuator, a section of covering surface, and a vibration isolator. In order to provide spatial and directional information, sensory saltation and phantom sensation are applied to the T-mobile. To evaluate the developed device, two experiments were conducted to test whether directional information and spatial information can be successfully displayed by the device. Additionally, in order to find optimal stimulation by sensory saltation, an empirical test was conducted. As a result, spatial and directional information would be useful for displaying intuitive information for hand-held devices with vibrotactile feedback and reasonable near-optimal value for sensory saltation was obtained.

Objective: This study aims to assess the reliability and validity of the new hand-held spirometer as a potential substitute for traditional pulmonary function testing (PFT) devices. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: In this study, thirty healthy adults underwent spirometry using both the new hand-held spirometer and the MIR spirometer, which is a standard PFT device. Parameters including peak expiratory flow (PEF), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and forced vital capacity (FVC) were measured and analyzed for validity and reliability. Inter-rater reliability and validity were evaluated through 95% limits of agreement (LOA) and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). Statistical analyses, including the Bland-Altman plots and the ICC, were utilized to assess agreement between the two devices. Results: The new hand-held spirometer exhibited a good agreement with intra-class coefficient (ICC [2,1]) ranging 0.762 to 0.956 and 95% LOA of -1.94 to 1.80 when compared with MIR. The test-retest reliability of the hand-held spirometer analyzed using - ICC [2,1] demonstrated a good level of consistency (ICC [2,1] =0.849-0.934). Conclusions: In conclusion, the study aimed to assess the potential of the new hand-held spirometer as a viable alternative to traditional PFT devices, with a specific focus on its reliability and validity in spirometric measurements. The new hand-held spirometer exhibited good test-retest reliability across all measured variables, suggesting its potential as a valid and reliable tool for simultaneous PFT measurements.

In this paper, we investigate the realistic environment influence on the Hearing-Aid Compatibility(HAC) of the body-held device mock-up with a dual-band antenna. In detail, first, a dual-band internal antenna is designed considering the neighboring objects essential to a real attachable mobile device. This comes to reality by making its mock-up version. Second, the HAC of this device is simulated and measured for 'stand alone', and 'hand-held' cases. Particularly, the electromagnetic simulation of the designed antenna in the real device is verified by the standard measurement. Finally, the evaluated HAC is analyzed in terms of the relations with the bands, the mock-up environment and the hand effect.

The electrical medical device market have been expanded since the public interest in healthy living that has deepened together with the global health trend of the aging population. The external hand-held ultrasonic probe is a frequently approved medical device and it is commonly used in the clinical field. However, there is no obvious standard or a guideline in Korea on regarding evaluation of performance of such external hand-held ultrasonic probe for approval and quality management. In this study, local and foreign reference standards were reviewed to propose performance test standards and methods after conducting characteristic of probe, market, and permission status. In addition, such proposed test items were validated to develop a draft guideline that is internationally harmonized for performance evaluation. This study is expected not only improve the quality and performance of the external hand-held ultrasonic probe but also contribute to securing consistency of permission and evaluation works for approval.
In this paper, we present a design and an evaluation of a hand-held ball based haptic interface, named "TouchBall." Using a trackball mechanism, the device provides flexibility in terms of directional degrees of freedom. It also has an advantage of a direct transfer of force feedback through frictional touch (with high sensitivity), thus requiring only relatively small amount of inertia. This leads to a compact hand-held design appropriate for mobile and 3D interactive applications. The device is evaluated for the detection thresholds for directions of the force feedback and the perceived amount of directional force. The refined directionality information should combine with other modalities with less sensory conflict, enriching the user experience for a given application.
This paper presents a measurement system for 3D hand-drawn gesture motion. Many pen-type input devices with Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) have been developed to estimate 3D hand-drawn gesture using the measured acceleration and/or the angular velocity of the device. The crucial procedure in developing these devices is to measure and to analyze their motion or trajectory. In order to verify the trajectory estimated by an IMU-based input device, it is necessary to compare the estimated trajectory to the real trajectory. For measuring the real trajectory of the pen-type device, a PHANToMTM haptic device is utilized because it allows us to measure the 3D motion of the object in real-time. Even though the PHANToMTM measures the position of the hand gesture well, poor initialization may produce a large amount of error. Therefore, this paper proposes a calibration method which can minimize measurement errors.
