In this paper, we propose a real-time approach for detecting and tracking a hand region by analyzing depth images. We build a hand model in advance. The model has the shape information of a hand. The detecting process extracts out moving areas in an image, which are possibly caused by moving a hand in front of a camera. The moving areas can be identified by analyzing accumulated difference images and applying the region growing technique. The extracted moving areas are compared against a hand model to get justified as a hand region. The tracking process keeps the track of center points of hand regions of successive frames. For this purpose, it involves three steps. The first step is to determine a seed point that is the closest point to the center point of a previous frame. The second step is to perform region growing to form a candidate region of a hand. The third step is to determine the center point of a hand to be tracked. This point is searched by the mean-shift algorithm within a confined area whose size varies adaptively according to the depth information. To verify the effectiveness of our approach, we have evaluated the performance of our approach while changing the shape and position of a hand as well as the velocity of hand movement.

The use of gestures provides an attractive alternate to cumbersome interface devices for human-computer interaction. This has motivated a very active research area concerned with computer vision-based analysis and interpretation of hand gestures. The most important issues in gesture recognition are the simplification of algorithm and the reduction of processing time. The mathematical morphology based on geometrical set theory is best used to perform the processing. A key idea of proposed algorithm in this paper is to apply morphological shape decomposition. The primitive elements extracted to a hand gesture include in very important information on the directivity of the hand gestures. Based on this characteristic, we proposed the morphological gesture recognition algorithm using feature vectors calculated to lines connecting the center points of a main-primitive element and sub-primitive elements. Through the experiment, we demonstrated the efficiency of proposed algorithm. Coupling natural interactions such as hand gesture with an appropriately designed interface is a valuable and powerful component in the building of TV switch navigating and video contents browsing system.

The purpose of this study is to investigate change of mechanical and physical properties, shape behavior and hand value in weft knit when rib stitch and milan stitch are combined. The knit stitches used in this study are plain stitch, half milan rib stitch, milan rib stitch, $2{\times}1$ rib stitch, $2{\times}1$ half milan rib stitch and $2{\times}1$ milan rib stitch. We analyzed physical and mechanical properties(tensile, bending, shear, compression, surface properties, thickness and weight) of the knit stitches and calculated their primary hand value and total hand value through translational formulas using the KES(Kawabata Evaluation System). The results are as follows; In evaluation of mechanical properties and hand values of knit stitches, plain stitch had the highest flexibility and the lowest T.H.V. as women's winter knit wear. Since $2{\times}1$ rib stitch had too high elongation in one direction, although it had the highest T.H.V, it needs to be careful when plain stitch and $2{\times}1$ rib stitch are applied for women's winter knit wear. Since Milan rib stitch and $2{\times}1$ milan rib stitch had high T.H.V. similarly, it is considered that they are suitable for women's winter knit wear. Specially, when Milan stitch is combined with $2{\times}1$ rib stitch, its shape stability and fullness are contained and flexibility is added on it. Therefore, $2{\times}1$ milan rib stitch can be also applied for women's winter knit wear.
The purpose of this study was to compare the canal configuration after shaping by ProTaper rotary files and ProTaper hand files in resin simulated canals. Forty resin simulated canals with a curvature of J-shape and S-shape were divided into four groups by 10 blocks each Simulated root canals in resin block were prepared by ProTaper rotary files and ProTaper hand files using a crown-down pressureless technique All simulated canals were prepared up to size $\#25$ file at end-point of preparation. Pre- and post-instrumentation images were recorded with color scanner. Assessment of canal shape was completed with an image analysis program. Measurements were made at 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 mm from the apex. At each level, outer canal width, inner canal width, total canal width, and amount of transportation from original axis were recorded. Instrumentation time was recorded. The data were analyzed statistically using independent t-test. The result was that ProTaper hand files cause significantly less canal transportation from original axis of canal body and maintain original canal configuration better than ProTaper rotary files, however ProTaper hand files take more shaping time.
This study is intended to build a controller of redundant manipulators with the simultaneous abilities of trajectory tracking and obstacle avoidance without any preparations of path planning to achieve full automation even for one production of one kind, while keeping the avoidance ability high and keeping its shape away from object to reduce the possibility that the manipulator crashes to the object. To evaluate the avoidance ability of the intermediate link, we proposed a scalar value of Avoidance Manipulability Shape Index(AMSI), which is independent of the obstacle's shape. On the other hand, the danger to crash to the obstacle is depending on the shape of the obstacle, which could be evaluated by the potential field set around the obstacle. This paper proposes control method of the manipulator's shape based on the AMSI to simultaneously avoid obstacles and keep the avoidance ability high with potential.

This paper discussed the assessment of hand of Tencel denim fabrics finished by enzymatic hydrolysis. The subjective hand and the preference of Tencel denim fabrics were evaluated using the developed scale. The factors affecting consumers taste for Tencel denim fabrics were analyzed by statistics using SAS program. Also, the effects of cellulase treatment on the properties of Tencel denim fabrics were evaluated by the subjective hand measurements. The results are as follows: As the weight loss increased. fabrics were evaluated as finer, smoother, softer, warmer, more refined (surface properties), more compact and weaker (durability), more flexible, flossier, lighter, softer, thinner (sense of weight), more elastic, and less wrinkly (shape recovery). Fabrics were evaluated to have the dry touch regardless to the rate of weight loss (moisture properties). Overall hand preference of Tencel denim fabrics was in the side of not preferred. Hand of Tencel fabrics seems not to appeal to Korean people. Color preferences were not significantly different among five groups. The correlations between subjective hand and preference showed that fine, smooth, flexible, warm, refined, loose, soft, dry touches were preferred in Tencel denim fabrics.

Kodály hand signs are symbols that intuitively represent pitch and note names based on the shape and height of the hand. They are an excellent tool that can be easily expressed using the human body, making them highly engaging for children who are new to music. Traditional hand signs help beginners easily understand pitch and significantly aid in music learning and performance. However, Kodály hand signs have distinctive features, such as the ability to indicate key changes or chords using both hands and to clearly represent accidentals. These features enable the effective use of Kodály hand signs. In this paper, we aim to investigate the changes in recognition rates according to the complexity of scales by creating a device for learning Kodály hand signs, teaching simple Do-Re-Mi scales, and then gradually increasing the complexity of the scales and teaching complex scales and children's songs (such as "May Had A Little Lamb"). The learning device utilizes accelerometer and bending sensors. The accelerometer detects the tilt of the hand, while the bending sensor detects the degree of bending in the fingers. The utilized accelerometer is a 6-axis accelerometer that can also measure angular velocity, ensuring accurate data collection. The learning and performance evaluation of the Kodály learning device were conducted using Python.

In this paper, a method is proposed for the recognition of hand-written Hangeul. This is peiformed by extraction of the concave structural segments by phase rotation. Character patterns can be decomposed into the fundamental concave structural segments which are also categorized into segment sects, and the closure and phase features of each segment in set is represented by logics. By rotating the logic pattern, the topological and phase features of segment are extracted for the reliable recognition of the character. It is also evaluated that this method applies to a wide variety of shape, position and declination of the character.

The shape retention finishing provides a fabric for easiness of no-ironing after laundering. In spite of the obvious importance of the new finishing treatment, few systematic studies have been performed on the handle of the fabrics finished by the durable press process. The purpose of this research is to investigate the relationships among the mechanical properties, durable press conditions, primary hand values and the total hand value of the fabrics finished by shape retention process. In this experiment, durable press grade of unfinished fabrics decreased below 2.5, but those of finished fabrics maintained above 4, but the mechanical properties of finished fabrics did not change significantly after laundering. In finished fabrics, D.P. value were correlated with mechanical properties, but had little effects with H.V. and T.H.V. Since the evaluation of the effect of durable press process was done with the naked eyes and standard sample, we could not know exactly change o( mechanical properties, but trace the change of mechanical properties which gave influences on the durable press effects by using KES-FB System.
This paper proposes a dry-type surface myoelectric sensor for the myoelectric hand prosthesis. The designed surface myoelectric sensor is composed of skin interface and processing circuits. The skin interface has one reference and two input electrodes, and the reference electrode is located in the center of two input electrodes. Considering the conduction velocity and the median frequency of the myoelectric signal, the inter-electrode distance (IED) between two input electrodes as 18mm, 20mm, and 22mm is selected. The signal processing circuit consists of a differential amplifier with a band pass filter, a band rejection filter for rejecting 60㎐ power-line noise, amplifier, and a level circuit. Using SUS440, six prototype skin interface with different reference electrode shape and IED is fabricated, and their output characteristics are evaluated by output signal obtained from the forearm of a healthy subject. The experimental results show that the skin interface with parallel bar shape and the 18mm IED has a good output characteristics. The fabricated dry-type surface myoelectric sensor is evaluated for the upper-limb amputee.
