  • Carrier diffusion length in the light-sensitive material is one of the key elements in improving the light-current conversion efficiency of solar-cell devices. In this paper, we measured the carrier diffusion length in lead-halide perovskite ($MAPbI_3$) and mixed lead-halide ($MAPbI_{3-x}Cl_x$) perovskite devices using scanning photocurrent microscopy (SPCM). The SPCM signal decreased as we moved the focused laser spot away from the metal contact. By fitting the data with a simple exponential curve, we extracted the carrier diffusion length of each perovskite film. Importantly, the diffusion length of the mixed-halide perovskite was higher than that of the halide perovskite film by a factor of 3 to 6; this is consistent with the general expectation that the carrier mobility will be higher in the case of the mixed lead-halide perovskites. Finally, the diffusion length was investigated as a function of applied bias for both samples, and analyzed successfully in terms of the drift-diffusion model.

  • Characteristics of spectral irradiance based on the distance from the light source, which combined metal halide lamp and high-luminance light-emitting diode (LED) light, were studied to investigate a suitable operating method for fishing lamps of the next generation. A 380-780 nm wavelength radiation was superior when using 1 W electrical power in the order of metal halide lamp, blue LED, white LED, and combined LED lights. The wavelengths at which the irradiance was at a maximum were fixed to 581 nm for the light source, which was combined for each ratio. If the irradiance characteristics at 300-1100 nm wavelengths were set as 100%, the irradiance rates at 400-599 nm were 100%, 72.7%, 88.9%, and 69.5% for the blue, white, combined LED lights, and metal halide lamp, respectively. This indicated that the color rendering of the LED lights was dependent on the metal halide lamp light source. When the horizontal profiles (450-550 nm wavelength) of irradiances were compared to a different type of light source in the ratio white LED: combined LED lights: blue LED: metal halide lamp, the irradiated area of more than $0.01\;{\mu}mol/s/m^2/nm$ was in the ratio 1.0 : 1.3 : 1.7 : 37.3, respectively. Based on the radiation characteristics and irradiance according to the distance from the light source, LED lights have an estimated economic efficiency if used before and after operation of a metal halide lamp.

  • Principles of a novel pulse growing method are described. The method realized in the crystal growing on a seed from melts under raw melt feeding provided a more reliable control of the crystallization process when producing large alkali halide crystals. The slow natural convection of the melt in the crucible at a constant melt level is intensified by rotating the crucible, while the crystal rotation favors a more symmetrical distribution of thermal stresses over the crystal cross-section. Optimum rotation parameters for the crucible and crystal have been determined. The spatial position oi the solid/liquid phase interface relatively to the melt surface, heaters and the crucible elements are considered. Basing on that consideration, a novel criterion is stated, that is, the immersion extent of the crystallization front (CF) convex toward the melt. When the crystal grows at a <> CF immersion, the raised CF may tear off from the melt partially or completely due to its weight. This results in avoid formation in the crystal. Experimental data on the radial crystal growth speed are discussed. This speed defines the formation of a gas phase layer at the crystal surface. The layer thickness il a function of time a temperature at specific values of pressure in the furnace and the free melt surface dimensions in the gap between the crystal and crucible wall. Analytical expressions have been derived for the impurity component mass transfer at the steady-state growth stage describing two independent processes, the impurity mass transfer along the <> path and its transit along the <> one. The heater (and thus the melt) temperature variation is inherent in any control system. It has been shown that when random temperature changes occur causing its lowering at a rate exceeding $0.5^{\circ}C/min$, a kind of the CF decoration by foreign impurities or by gas bubbles takes place. Short-term temperature changes at one heater or both result in local (i.e., at the front) redistribution of the preset axial growth speed.

  • The use of arc tubes made of ceramic material further enhanced some of the metal halide lamp's properties. These properties translate into higher efficacy with better color rendering, stable color through lamp long life. Recently, due to an increase in the application of the ceramic metal-halide lamp, the study for the property etc. according to Ballast's driving scheme and the study for arc tube material, optimization of gas and so on are being proceeded to improve the property of the lamp. Especially, to control ceramic metal-halide lamp, the vigorous study and practical use with respect to Electronic Ballast, which has been improved in the disadvantages of the conventional Magnetic Ballast are made. In this paper, Electrical characteristics and gas insulation destroy time are analyzed by comparing magnetic ballast with electronic ballast.

  • Fishing efficiency of the squid jigging vessel using the LED and metal halide fishing lamp combination was analyzed to reduce the cost for fishing operation utilizing the fishing light system for high degree of efficiency in the squid jigging fishery (one of the representative coastal and offshore fisheries in Korea). This study aims to improve the nature of existing LED lamps and to develop fan-shaped LED lights having 180W of power and ${\pm}45^{\circ}$ angle of light intensity distribution. The marine experiment for making a comparison of their fishing efficiency was tested by a 9.77 tons fishing vessel from Oct. through Dec. 2012. As a result, experimental fishing vessel showed slightly higher fishing efficiency than the average of metal halide lamp-equipped vessel and 20% energy savings. This means that the combination of LED and metal halide lamps would provide an efficient way to lower energy consumption while maintaining fishing efficiency.

  • The radiation characteristics and economic efficiency of high - luminance light - emitting diodes (LEDs), a metal halide lamp, and a halogen lamp were studied to evaluate their potential as an energy-saving light source for fishing lamps. The wavelengths at which irradiance was maximum were 709, 613, 473, 501, 525, 465, 578, and 973 nm for red, orange, blue, peacock blue, green, and white LEDs, the metal halide lamp, and the halogen lamp, respectively. If the irradiance characteristics at 300-1,100 nm wavelengths are set as 100%, the irradiance rates at 381-780 nm were 99-78%, 82%, and 24% for the LEDs, metal halide lamp, and halogen lamp, respectively. The economic efficiency was superior in the order metal halide lamp, halogen lamp, peacock blue LED, and blue LED at 381-780 nm and metal halide lamp, peacock blue LED, blue LED, and halogen lamp at 480-520 nm. Based on the radiation characteristics and economic efficiency evaluated at 480-520 nm, the blue and peacock blue LED light sources can be used as energy-saving light sources for fishing lamps.

  • Single crystal of organic lead halide ($CH_3NH_3PbX_3$; $CH_3NH^+_3$ = methylammonium (MA), $X=Cl^-$, $Br^-$, $I^-$) is the best candidate for material intrinsic property studies due to no grain boundary and high crystal quality than the film having a lot of grain boundary and surface defects. The representative crystallization methods are inverse temperature crystallization (ITC) and anti-solvent vapor assisted crystallization (AVC). Herein, we report bandgap modulated organic lead halide single crystals having a bandgap ranging from ~ 2.1 eV to ~ 3 eV with ITC and AVC methods. The bandgap modulation was achieved by controlling the solvents and chloride-to-bromide ratio. Structural, optical and compositional properties of prepared crystals were characterized. The results show that the crystals synthesized by the two crystallization methods have similar properties, but the halide ratios in the crystals synthesized by the AVC method are controlled more quantitatively than the crystals synthesized by ITC.

  • Photosensitivity of silver halide emulsion depends on the properties of the microcrystals. Size, shape, grain distribution and chemical composition as well as the inner structure or the topography of the latent image specks affect on the optical properties and play an important role in the photographic process. In the present paper, a study on the sensitization of emulsion containing AgBrClI core/shell grains showed that for the given size, shape, halide content and crystal habit, under the optimal conditions the photosensitivity of the heterojunction type grains are different from that of the common regular grains. The optimal photosensitivity was obtained at the iodide content of 2.0 mo1%.
