  • In this letter, non-regenerative Amplify-and-Forward (AF) relay systems based on half and full duplex schemes are investigated and their performance is analyzed and compared in terms of outage probability. Although the AF relay systems have been widely investigated in many previous literatures, most of them adopted a half duplex scheme due to hardware limitation and mathematical tractability. To the best of our knowledge, this letter is the first study to investigate the performance of the full duplex AF relay system considering practical hardware limitations. In full duplex AF relay systems, it is important to secure the isolation between transmit and receive antennas. Our numerical and simulation results show that there exists a threshold point of the isolation gain that the full duplex relay system outperforms the half duplex relay system.

  • In this paper, we suggest a precoding algorithm for full-duplex relay with multiple antennas. Because full-duplex relay performs transmission and reception at the same time in the same frequency band another existing half-duplex relay differently, self interference arise between transmit and receive antennas of relay. The proposed precoding algorithm eliminates self interference by block diagonalization algorithm and makes the relay perform full-duplex operation. Also we verify that full-duplex relay have improved channel capacity than existing half-duplex relay by computer simulation.

  • The diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) functions of three special half-duplex (HD) dynamic decode-and-forward (DDF) protocols with multiple antennas only at the source node, only at the destination node, and only at the relay node are analytically derived. The DMT functions of these three relay protocols are compared with one another and with those of the nonorthogonal amplify and forward (NAF) protocols.

  • Multiple-input multiple-output systems can achieve a full sum rate (SR) via full duplex (FD). However, its performance is degraded by self-interference (SI) that occurs between the transmitter and receiver at the same node and thus is constrained by error floors. Conversely, half duplex (HD) can avoid the SI albeit at lower spectral efficiency, and the slope of its error curve is determined by the diversity order. In this study, a link selection scheme based on switching between FD and HD is examined as a simple method to improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of FD systems. In the proposed link selection algorithm, either FD or HD is selected based on the received minimum distance and signal-to-interference plus noise ratio. Simulation results indicate that the proposed hybrid FD/HD switching system offers significant BER performance improvement when compared with that of the conventional FD and FD based on only the received minimum distance under the same fixed SR. Under relatively sufficient SI cancellation, it is demonstrated to outperform the HD with a diversity advantage in low and medium signal-to-noise ratio region.

  • The diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) function of a special half-duplex (HD) dynamic decode and forward (DDF) relay protocol with more than two antennas at the source node, two antennas at the relay node, and two antennas at the destination node is derived. This protocol is compared to a HD NAF protocol with the same number of source antennas and a HD DDF relay protocol with two antennas at the source node, more than two antennas at the relay node, and two antennas at the destination node.

  • The deployment density of AP increases as well as the density WLAN stations due to increase of WLAN use and the real performance of WLAN is degraded. To improve the performance, there are many PHY/MAC technologies and OFDMA and full duplex are promising technologies among them. In conventional OFDMA WLAN MAC relate works, there are some limitations in terms of channel utilization and collision probability. Thus, it need to research for effective channel allocation protocol. Full duplex can transmit data on the same time and same frequency resource so it can allocate channel more flexible than half duplex. In this paper, we prose the OFDMA FD-MAC(Full Duplex MAC) protocol that it allocates the sub-channels based on the idle channel information for full duplex pair. In addition, it shows the throughput improvement by performance analysis.

  • In decode and forward relay systems, choosing the duplex mode is an important factor to the performance. To satisfy the performance requirement, self-interference must be mitigated for the full-duplex relay (FDR), and the resource efficiency must be increased for the half-duplex ratio (HDR). Therefore, if a wise scheme to consider these two factors exists, decode and forward relay systems are used more effectively. This study proposes a new duplex selection scheme for decode and forward relay systems. The proposed duplex selection scheme chooses the better duplex mode according to the channel statistical conditions with optimal power allocation. The simulation results show that the proposed duplex scheme with optimal power allocation has lower outage probability than the FDR and the HDR.

  • The wireless mesh network (WMN) is a next-generation technology for data networking that has the advantage in cost and the flexibility in its construction because of not requiring the infra-structure such as the ethernet. This paper focuses on the optimal link scheduling problem under the wireless mesh network to effectuate real-time streaming by using the constraint programming. In particular, Under the limitation of half-duplex transmission in wireless nodes, this paper proposes a solution method to minimize the makespan in scheduling packet transmission from wireless nodes to the gateway in a WMN with no packet transmission conflicts due to the half-duplex transmission. It discusses the conflicts in packet transmission and deduces the condition of feasible schedules, which defines the model for the constraint programming. Finally it comparatively shows and discusses the results using two constraint programming solvers, Gecode and the IBM ILOG CP solver.

  • We propose a new time-division half-duplex estimate-and-forward (EF) relaying strategy suitable for a relay with mobility. We reconfigure EF relaying to guarantee a strong relay-destination link which is required to achieve a high rate using EF relaying. Based on the reconfigured model, we optimize the relaying strategy to attain a high rate irrespective of the relay position with preserving the total transmit bandwidth and energy. The proposed relaying strategy achieves high communication reliability for any relay position, which differs from conventional EF and decode-and-forward (DF) relaying schemes.
