  • Fuel Cell (FC) has slow response characteristic for load variation. During a load step, the inverter cannot pull more power from the fuel cell than is currently available so supplemental power must be provide by some sort of energy storage elements. In this paper, hi-directional do-dc converter for FC generation system is proposed to improve load response characteristic. The hi-directional converter interfaces the low voltage battery to the inverter dc link of FC generation system. The converter is based on a active full bridge in the primary side and on a half bridge in the secondary of a high frequency isolation transformer. The complete operating principles and simulation results in presented.

  • A numerical procedure is introduced to calculate local ventilation effectiveness using the definitions of local decay rate and local mean age. A low Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ model is implemented to calculate steady state turbulent velocity distributions, and a step-down method is used to calculate transient concentration distributions. Simulations are carried out for several different values of air change rates and several different diffuser angles in a two-dimensional model of a half scale office room. The results show that the local ventilation effectiveness within a room could vary significantly from one location to another. The nominal air change rate based on the assumption of complete mixing of room air does not provide the local ventilation effectiveness information. It is numerically proved that the local mean age distribution obtained from the transient calculation is equivalent to the steady state concentration distribution with homogeneously distributed contaminant sources.

  • The parabolic equation technique provides an excellent model to describe the wave phenomena when there exists a predominant direction of propagation. The model handles the square root wave number operator in paraxial direction. Realization of the pseudo-differential square root operator is the essential part of the parabolic equation method for its numerical accuracy. The wide-angled approximation of the operator is made based on the Pade series expansion, where the branch line rotation scheme can be combined with the original Pade approximation to stabilize its computational performance for complex modes. The Galerkin integration has been employed to discretize the depth-dependent operator. The benchmark tests involving the half-infinite space, the range independent and dependent environment will validate the implemented numerical model.

  • This paper describes the design of a 2-phase stepping motor driver using CPLD(Complex Programmable Logic Device). The driver IC such as L297(SGS-Thomson Microelectronics), which is mostly used has some difficulties in PWM control because of the switching noise of power MOSFETs. It causes current ripple and acoustic noise. To improve theses characteristics, we proposed a new current control method that the output PWM frequency is almost constant using a digital filter. Also we proposed constant current method for 1-2 phase(half step) excitation. The proposed method is implemented with CPLD(Xilinx, XC9572-PC44). Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The most important element is a rise ratio when regarding beauty and economics of arch bridges. Only the effect of dead load has been considered to decide the rise ratio. In this study, when going over the rise ratio of arch bridges, examined the problems, that the determination of the rise ratio by the dead load has, by adding the factor of a determination of optimum rise ratio, which is not only the effect of the dead load that has been currently considered but also the problem with respect to wind resistant dynamic stability that is now taken seriously. Synthetically, when deciding rise ratio that is investigated in basic step of design, it is not necessary to consider the evaluation wind resistant dynamic stability.

  • A new edge detection operator superimposing two displaced Gaussian smoothing filters Is proposed as an approximate operator for the DroG(flrst derivative of Gaussian) known as a sub-op-timal step edge detector. The performance of the proposed edge detector Is very close to that of the DroG with the performance criteria . signal to noise ratio, locality, and multiple response. And the computational complexity can be reduced almost by a half of that of DroG, because of the use of common 2-D smoothing filter for DroG and LoG ( Laplacian of Gausslan) systems.

  • Electrical and mechanical properties of Pb(Mg, Te, Mn, Nb)O3-PZT ceramics are investigated as a function of CeO2 addition (0 to 0.3wt%), and the output characteristics of piezoelectric transformer are also presented. The grain size decreased and the shapes of particles were more uniform with the addition of CeO2. The coercive electric field(9500V/cm), mechanical quality factor (2500) and bend strength (1065kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) were improved by addition of CeO2 0.2wt%. After repetition of a number of stress cycles, the degradation of k33 was not found in this sample. The voltage step-up ratio (Vdc/Vrms) of piezoelectric ceramic transformer (half wavevoltage doubler, load resistor 100M.ohm) was about 950 in a linear region, its value was relatively higher than other materials.

  • In many project-oriented production systems, e.g., shipyards or large-scale steel products manufacturing, resource loading by an activity is flexible, and the activity duration is a function of resource allocation. For example, if one doubles the size of the crew assigned to perform an activity, it may be feasible to complete the activity in half the duration. Such flexibility has been modeled by Weglarz [131 and by Leachman, Dincerler, and Kim [7] in extended formulations of the resource-constrained project scheduling problem. This paper presents a new algorithmic approach to the problem that combines the ideas proposed by the aforementioned authors. The method we propose involves a two-step approach: (1) solve the resource-constrained scheduling problem using a heuristic, and (2) using this schedule as an initial feasible solution, find improved resource allocations by solving a linear programming model. We provide computational results indicating the superiority of this approach to previous methodology for the resource-constrained scheduling problem. Extensions to the model to admit overlap relationships of the activities also are presented.

  • This paper describes the forging of circular tooth profiled gears as a series of development of simulator for non-axisymmetric parts that being used at the pump pulley, timing belt pulley etc. in automobiles. The half pitch of gear is divided into 6 deformation regious and kinematically admissible velocity fields for those regions are proposed. The neutral surface is introduced torepresent inner flow of material during forging operation with flat punch and, for each step, it is assumed as a circle. The upper bound solutions obtained from the suggested kinematically admissible velocity fields are in good agreement with experimental results and they are useful to predict the capacity of forging press for forging of circular gears.

  • In this paper, the magnitude of undershoot and overshoot in a prototype second order system with one positive real zero is computed by the analytic methods. Also, it will be shown that the peak times of the undershoot and overshoot can be calculated using the impulse and step response of the second order system. Three different cases are investigated: underdamped(p<ζ<1), critically damped(ζ=1) and overdamped(ζ>1) cases. We deal with the undamped(ζ=0) case as a special case of the underdamped. And a compensation method is proposed to reduce undershoots of the nonmininmun phase system using feedforward compensator.
