Revision of the lichen genus Myelochroa (Ascomycotina: Parmeliaceae) in Korea

  • Korean species of the genus Myelochroa are revised taxonomically and the following eight species are recognized: M. aurulenta (Tuck.) Elix & Hale, M. entotheiochroa (Hue) Elix & Hale, M. galbina (Ach.) Elix & Hale, M. hayachinensis (Kurok.) Elix & Hale, M. irrugans (Nyl.) Elix & Hale, M. leucotyliza (Nyl.) Elix & Hale, M. metarevoluta (Asahina) Elix & Hale and M. perisidians (Nyl.) Elix & Hale. Myelochroa ibukiensis K.H. Moon et al. is reduced to a synonym for M. aurulenta. Myelochroa denegans (Nyl.) Elix & Hale, M. indica (Hale) Elix & Hale and M. xantholepis (Mont. & Bosch) Elix & Hale are excluded from the lichen of Korea. In addition, a key for the species of the Korean Myelochroa is provided.

  • Parmotrema A. Massal. is a common lichen genus scattered throughout the Korean Peninsula; however, no detailed taxonomic or revisionary study of this genus has been conducted for nearly two decades. Therefore, this study revised the taxonomy of this genus based on specimens deposited in the lichen herbarium at the Korean Lichen Research Institute and samples wereidentified using recent literature. In this revisionary study, a total of eighteen species of Parmotrema including eight new records [Parmotrema cetratum (Ach.) Hale, Parmotrema cristiferum (Taylor) Hale, Parmotrema grayanum (Hue) Hale, Parmotrema defectum (Hale) Hale, Parmotrema dilatatum (Vain.) Hale, Parmotrema margaritatum (Hue) Hale, Parmotrema pseudocrinitum (Abbayes) Hale, and Parmotrema subsumptum (Nyl.) Hale] are documented. Detailed descriptions of each species with their morphological, anatomical and chemical characteristics are also given and a key to the known Parmotrema species of the Korean Peninsula is presented.

  • Detailed descriptions of five species of the lichen genus Canoparmelia Elix & Hale. are presented. Until now, three species of the genus Canoparmelia, including C. apata (Krempelh.) Elix & Hale, C. owariensis (Asah.) Elix, and C. texana (Tuck.) Elix & Hale have been reported in South Korea. Canoparmelia carneopruinata (Zahlbr.) Elix & Hale, C. crozalsiana (de Lesd.) Elix & Hale, and C. ecaperata (M$\ddot{u}$ll. Arg.) Elix & Hale are new to the South Korean lichen flora. An artificial key is provided for all species of Canoparmelia, including the three new records.

Navigation Augmentation in Urban Area by HALE UAV with Onboard Pseudolite during Multi-Purpose Missions

  • Among various applications of the High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), this paper has a focus on the Global Positioning System (GPS) utilizing pseudolite and its improved performance, particularly during the multi-purpose missions. In a multi-purpose mission, the HALE UAV follows a specified flight trajectory for both navigation applications and missions. Some of the representative HALE missions are remote exploration, surveillance, reconnaissance, and communication relay. During these operations, the HALE UAV can also be an additional positioning signal source as it broadcast signals using pseudolite. The pseudolite signal can improve the availability, accuracy, and reliability of the GPS particularly in areas with poor signal reception, such as shadowed regions between tall buildings. The improvement in performance of navigation is validated through simulations of multi-purpose missions of the solar-powered HALE UAV in an urban canyon. The simulation includes UAV trajectory generation at stratosphere and uses actual geographical building data. The results indicate that the pseudolite-equipped HALE UAV has the potential to enhance the performance of the satellite navigation system in navigationally degraded regions even during multi-purpose operations.

장기체공 무인항공기 기술기준 및 안전성 평가 연구 (Certification Criteria and Safety Assessment for High Altitude Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicle)

  • Multi disciplinary approach for aerodynamics, structure, propulsion, and flight control system is necessary to develop High Altitude Long Endurance Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (HALE UAV). Various HALE UAV development trends are surveyed to understand their operational requirements. Separating the UAV Take Off Weight by 150kg, Airworthiness implementation direction for HALE UAV is studied under the current Airworthiness regulations. NATO STANAG 4671 and STANAG 4703 Airworthiness certification criteria are analyzed, and their applicability was proposed for future HALE UAV development. In addition, minimization of the risk for UAV is studied by considering probability of cumulative catastrophic failure for HALE UAV. This Hazard Risk Index can support the future UAV Airworthiness Certification Criteria.

  • GNSS (global navigation satellite systems)은 민 군 차원에서 매우 다양한 분야에 활용되고 있다. 그러나 GNSS 신호는 재밍에 상당히 취약해 쉽게 방해 받을 가능성이 상존하기에 GNSS을 사용 불가능할 시에도 일정 수준의 항법성능을 보장하여 주는 일련의 백업 또는 대체항법 시스템이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 의사위성 또는 트랜시버를 장착한 고고도 장기체공 무인기(HALE UAV; high altitude long endurance unmanned aerial vehicle)의 개념을 도입하여 국지적인 지역에서 백업 또는 대체항법 시스템을 제안하고자 하였다. 제안된 대체항법 시스템을 기반으로 고고도 장기체공 무인기의 위치 오차를 추정하고, 이를 바탕으로 최종적인 사용자 위치정확도를 산출하여 본 연구에서의 국지적 대체항법의 성능을 나타내었다.

  • Research for solar-powered high altitude long endurance(HALE) UAV was conducted by Korea Aerospace Research Institute(KARI), and the EAV-3 with 19.5m wing span was developed. For HALE flight, aircraft should be lightly designed. Especially, airframe structure that accounts for a large portion of the total weight of aircraft should be lightweight. In this paper, development process of airframe structure for solar-powered HALE UAV, EAV-3, is described briefly. Domestic developed T-800 grade CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) composite material with high modulus and strength was used to design main load carrying structures. Flightloads analysis that takes into account large structural deformation was carried out. Stress and flutter analyses for airframe structure sizing were conducted. Static strength test for main wing and aircraft ground vibration test were conducted successfully and structural integrity was secured.

Aerodynamic Design of the Solar-Powered High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) is developing an electric-driven HALE UAV in order to secure system and operational technologies since 2010. Based on the flight tests and design experiences of the previously developed electric-driven UAVs, KARI has designed EAV-3, a solar-powered HALE UAV. EAV-3 weighs 53kg, the structure weight is 22kg, and features a flexible wing of 19.5m in span with the aspect ratio of 17.4. Designing the main wing and empennage of the EAV-3 the amount of the bending due to the flexible wing, 404mm at 1-G flight condition based on T-800 composite material, and side wind effects due to low cruise speed, $V_{cr}=6m/sec$, are carefully considered. Also, unlike the general aircraft there is no center of gravity shift during the flight because of the EAV-3 is the solar-electric driven UAV. Thus, static margin cuts down to 28.4% and center of gravity moves back to 31% of the Mean Aerodynamic Chord (MAC) comparing with the previously designed the EAV-2 and EAV-2H/2H+ to upgrade the flight performance of the EAV-3.

고고도 장기체공무인기 경량 주익 스파 설계 (Light Wing Spar Design for High Altitude Long Endurance UAV)

  • There are several methods to improve the flight efficiency of HALE(High Altitude Long Endurance) UAV(Unmaned Aerial Vehicle). Airframe structural point of view, weight reduction of the airframe structure is the most important method to improve the flight efficiency. In order to reduce the weight of airframe structures, new concepts which are different from traditional airframe structure design such as the mylar wing skin should be introduced. The spar is the most important component in a mylar skin wing structure, so the spar weight reduction is the key point for reduction of the wing structural weight. In this study, design trade-off study for the front spar of the HALE UAV wing is conducted in order to reduce the weight. Design and analysis procedure of high aspect ratio wing spar are introduced. Several front spar structures are designed and trade-off study regarding the weight and strength for the each spar are performed. Spar design configurations are verified by the static strength test. Finally, optimal front spar design is decided and applied to the HALE UAV wing design.

HALE 무인기의 태양전지 열특성에 관한 해석적 연구 (A Numerical Study On Thermal Characteristics of HALE UAV Solar Arrays)

  • 본 연구에서는 수치해석을 통해 장기체공 무인기(HALE UAV)에 사용되는 태양전지에 대해 유동 및 열전달 해석을 수행하였다. 무인기가 운용되는 성층권에서는 강한 태양복사에너지가 유입되며, 자연대류에 의한 열전달이 감소하고 주위 유동에 의한 강제대류의 지배를 받는다. 이러한 환경에서의 태양전지 온도범위를 예측하기 위해 주익에 부착되어 있는 태양전지모듈을 대상으로 복합열전달 해석을 수행하였으며, 성층권 환경에서 시간에 따른 태양복사에너지, 비행속도, 밀도, 온도 등의 외기환경이 태양전지의 온도분포와 열전달 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다.
