An 8-year-old, castrated male Shih-tzu was referred due to relapsing pododermatitis and generalized pruritus. On physical examination, right forepaw showed swelling and serosanguinous exudates from sinus tract on dorsal paw. There were no remarkable findings on complete blood count (CBC), serum chemistry, and radiologic examination. On cytological examination of exudates from sinus tract, phagocyted bacteria and numerous degenerative neutrophils were noted. Results of deep skin scraping and plucking hair examination were unremarkable. Skin biopsy was performed and ruled out other skin diseases. Histopathology showed epidermal hyperplasia and diffuse mononuclear cell inflammation in dermal layer. Moreover, pyogranulomatous inflammation was demonstrated in subcutaneous layer. This case was clinically diagnosed as pododermatitis secondary to atopic dermatitis (AD). Clinical signs of pododermatitis were gradually improved following topical application of tacrolimus 0.1% ointment. This case report describes that tacrolimus ointment can be applicable for the treatment of refractory pododermatitis.
A Korean domestic short hair (1-year-old, male) presented with 2 to 3 weeks of seizures, aggressive behavior, vomiting, anorexia, and lethargy. The frequency of seizure had gradually increased from once a week to once every 3 hours. Physical and neurologic examination, diagnostic screening tests, including complete blood count (CBC), serum chemistry, electrolyte, coagulation test, X-ray, ultrasonography, and urinalysis were performed. Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Toxoplasma spp. All tested negative, but the Feline Corona Virus (FCoV) kit revealed a positive result. To determine the exact diagnosis, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed but yielded no specific findings. The patient was then diagnosed with idiopathic epilepsy and treatment of phenobarbital was initiated. A month's treatment with phenobarbital proved ineffective as symptoms worsened. Zonisamide was then selected as an additional anticonvulsant. After adding zonisamide, symptoms improved, and seizures abated for 15 months. This is the first case report in South Korea describing the use of phenobarbital and zonisamide in the treatment of a cat with idiopathic epilepsy.
The effect of Glutamate to myocardial toxicity induced by doxorubicin was studied with 20 male rats. 20 rats divided into 4 subgroups, 1st group was taken for normal control group without any treatment, 2nd group was injected with only doxorubicin, 3rd group was injected with L-glutamate and doxorubicin, and 4thd group was injected with only L-glutamate [all injections were done intraperitoneally]. Observations were made to each group on their gross findings, body weight, and electrocardiography, complete blood count and serum level of creatine phosphokinase. The results were as follows; l. In 1st group, we found no changes. 2. In 2nd group, there were many changes which were loss of body weight, dehydration, loss of body hair, diarrhea and death, in addition, elevation of CPK-MB isoenzyme and changes in EKG due to myocardial damage, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia were also found. 3. In 3rd group, there were more toxic effects containing 2 death cases, compared to 2nd group. 4. In 4th group, we found no specific changes except weight gain. These results suggest that L-glutamate which is intermediate of Krebs cycle may worsen the doxorubicin-induced myocardial toxicity.
This study investigates historically difference by age of wig banishments that symbolize social-economic status from West Egypt era baroque age as qualitative study that use secondary bibliographic data, there is purpose. Conclusion of this study is as following. Because wig putting on that symbolize among several usages of wig putting on, socio-economic status until 17th century baroque age from ancient Egypt is been in fashion through privilege class lower classes as well as upper class wig putting on attain. Ancient wig putting on became measure that divide class because differ material of wig or one dimension, shape (style) and length became linear measure that it can aim wealth's emblem that putting on of long wave wig and whole wig that differ lust has many wig though was in fashion though whole wig and were in fashion arriving to Renaissance. That it becomes France clean fingernails' necessaries as Louis the 14th that ready crux of absolute authority establishment of France Court put wig from depilation to count 17 was clear socio-economic status etc. symbol measure inclination. Go without question status or position, wealth and churchman puts wig so that can know special sex of weapon of where the soldiers are belonged as well as put wig and wig putting on was parted according to job and lower classes participated in fashion of wig putting on. Wig putting on that become measure that symbolize job or status in this baroque age, position, wealth etc. gave absolute influence in wig fashion in 18th century.
A 7-year-old female American cocker spaniel presented with chronic regurgitation and megaesophagus on radiography at a local hospital. Dry and coarse hair coat, tail alopecia, and bradycardia were observed during physical examination. Mild, non-regenerative anemia was indicated by complete blood count (CBC) analysis. Concurrent hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglycemia were indicated by biochemistry tests. Decreased levels of total and free thyroxine (T4) and increased canine thyroid stimulating hormone (cTSH) levels were also detected. Megaesophagus was confirmed by radiographic examination. Based on the results, a diagnosis of hypothyroidism with megaesophagus was made. The patient was initially treated with levothyroxine sodium at a dosage of 0.02 mg/kg twice a day. After two weeks of treatment for hypothyroidism, the dilated esophagus returned to its original size and no further regurgitation was observed. No relapse was observed during two months of follow-up.

Background : The coronal incision is versatile surgical approach to upper and middle region of the facial skeletal including the zygomatic arch. The advantages of coronal approach are minimal injury of facial tissue including facial nerve and satisfactory cosmetic result by hidden scar at hair. But wide exposure of scalp, its disadvantages are operation time and massive blood loss. Methods : Thirty patients undergoing elective surgery were divided 3 groups. Group I used only coronal approach, group II used coronal with subciliary approach and group III used coronal with subciliary and intraoral approach. And then retrospected of the preoperative, postoperative red blood cell count, hemoglobin(Hb), hematocrit, transfused red blood cell units and platelet cell units, and the amount of infused crystalloids and colloids, and postoperative hemovac count was estimated. Results: 1. Red blood cell count were decreased in all groups at immediated postoperation and decreased in all group of postoperative first day and decreased in group I, II but increased group III of postoperative third day. 2. Hemoglobin and hematocrit were decreased in all group at immediated postoperation and decreased in all group of postoperative first day and decreased in group I, II., but increased group III postoperative third day. 3. Platelet was decreased in all group at immediated postoperation, and decreased in group II, III but increased in group I of postoperative first day and decreased in group I but increased group II, III of postoperative third day. 4. Mean postoperative hemovac mean drainage group I of first day is $48.63{\pm}21.12ml$ and second day is $23.92{\pm}19.53ml$ and third day is $7.82{\pm}5.32ml$ and group II of first day $60.45{\pm}22.65ml$ and second day is $22.14{\pm}13.21ml$ and third day is $7.32{\pm}6.25ml$. Infusion of group I is mean PRC $1.08{\pm}0.91$ pint, FFP $1.03{\pm}0.75$ pint, crystalloid $2562.23{\pm}1345.53ml$ and group II is mean PRC $1.05{\pm}0.89$ pint, FFP $1.71{\pm}0.78$, crystalloid $2650.47{\pm}1096.36ml$ and group III is mean PRC $1.79{\pm}1.45$ pint, crystalloid $3295.43{\pm}1472.432ml$.
The purpose of this study was to identify the hazard analysis critical control point on food production and transportation flow, applied to home-delivered meals for the elderly. To carry out this study, 1) pan-fried oak mushroom and meat, soy sauce glazed hair tail, and roasted dodok were selected as high nutrient and preferred foods for the elderly and 2) time, temperature, and microbiological quality(standard plate count, coliform, Salmonella spp, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Staphylococcus spp., Escherichia coli O157:H7, and Listeria monocytogenes) were measured at various phases of the home-delivered meal production and its transportation flows. The results of this experiments are as follows: The temperature measured at cooling phases during the home-delivered meal production flows was 19.2 ∼ 20.0$^{\circ}C$ for the pan- fried oak mushroom and meat and the roasted dodok and was 24.0 ∼ 25.2$^{\circ}C$ for the soy sauce glazed hair tail. These temperature were in the potentially dangerous zone. Microbiological analysis showed that S. spp. was higher in the raw ingredients, including oak mushroom, hair tail, radish, and dodok, than the standard limit. SPC was lower than the standard limit from cooking to transportation phase, but SPC increased significantly during the cooling and packaging phase. The level of coliform detected was far lower than the standard limit and was not detected at all during the transportation phase. Few S. spp. was detected in the pan-fried oak mushroom and meat, but was found in above standards limit during the wrap packaging phase in the soy sauce glazed hair tail and roasted dodok. The level decreased rapidly during the holding and transportation phase. Sal. spp., V. parahaemolyticus, S. spp., E. coli O157:H7, and L. monocytogenes were not detected. For the pan-fried oak mushroom and meat, the critical control points were during the purchasing and receiving of raw ingredients, cooling, and packaging phases. For the soy sauce glazed hair tail and roasted dodok, the critical control points were during the purchasing and receiving of raw ingredients, preparation, cooling, and packaging phases.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the causes and the effects of korean medicine treatment on alopecia. Methods : 1050 patients with alopecia, who had visited oriental medical clinics from July 2011 to October 2012, were analyzed by self-assessments. And 153 patients of them were treated with korean medicine treatment for 3 months. Treatment results were evaluated by patients' self-assessments and global & enlarged photographic reviews. Results : 1. The gender ratio of male to female was 2:1 and most patients belonged to the 20~30 year old group. 2. Family history of baldness in alopecia patients was a total of 57.3%, paternal 44.4% and maternal 21.2%. 3. Subjective symptoms of fever in parietal region was a total of 97.4% in alopecia patients. 4. After 1 month treatment, the fever in the parietal region was decreased by 37.3% of patients. And their subjective hair loss was also significantly decreased. 5. After 3 months of treatment, the global photographic review was improved by 56.2% of the patients and the enlarged photographic review was significantly improved by 5.2% in patients' total hair count. Conclusions : A significant number of alopecia patients were young and less relative in genetic alopecia causes was less relevant than the past. Recent causes of alopecia were more concerned with the fever in parietal region. According to that reason, cooling effect korean medicine treatment was expected to be effective for febrile alopecia, and actually had significant effects on this study. For future studies, it's long term treatment and follow up studies are needed.

A 2-year-old 16-kg, intact female lindo was presented with weight loss and poor hair coat. Abnormal serum biochemical values included mild hypokalemia (3.9 mmol/L, reference range 4.37 to 5.35 mmol/L) and mild hyperglycemia (124 mg/dl, reference range 65 to 118 mg/dl). in the complete blood count and diagnostic imaging examination, abnormal changes wer not seen. The analysis of urine sample obtained from cystocentesis revealed glucosuria (> 100 mg/dl) and mild proteinuria. Repeated analysis after admission showed persistent glucosuria and hypokalemia. But blood glucose values did not exceed the renal threshold fur glucose reabsorption. To differentiate cause of the glucosuria, the glucose tolerance test and the low-dosage dexamethasone suppression test were indicated. Results of both tests were normal. In addition, the serum total thyroxine $(T_4)$ value was within normal range. The arterial blood gas analysis showed no remarkable changes. The fractional reabsorption rates of amino acids and phosphorus were calculated above $97\%$. Based on these findings, the dog was diagnosed as renal glucosuria due to proximal renal tubular dysfunction. But this persistent renal glucosuria with hypokalemia may be the initial sign of Fanconi's syndrome or proximal renal tubular acidosis.
The antifungal activity of isolated lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from a locally fermented cereal, "Kunu", was tested against toxigenic Aspergillus flavus. The liquid refreshment, "Kunu", was prepared under hygienic condition using millet, sorghum, and the combination of the two grains. The antifungal potential of isolated LAB against toxigenic A. flavus was carried out using both in vitro and in vivo antifungal assays. The LAB count from prepared "Kunu" ranged from $2.80{\times}10^4CFU/mL$ to $4.10{\times}10^4CFU/mL$ and Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus delbrueckii, Lactobacillus fermentum, Pediococcus acidilactici, and Leuconostoc mesenteroides were the isolated bacteria. Inhibitory zones exhibited by LAB against toxigenic A. flavus ranged from 5.0 mm to 20.0 mm. The albino mice infected with toxigenic A. flavus showed sluggishness, decrease in body weight, distortion of hair, and presence of blood in their stool, while those treated with LAB after infection were recovered and active like those in control groups. Except for the white blood cell that was increased in the infected mice as $6.73mm^3$, the packed cell volume, hemoglobin, and red blood cell in infected animals were significantly reduced (P<0.05) to 29.28%, 10.06%, and 4.28%, respectively, when compared to the treated mice with LAB and control groups. The antifungal activity of LAB against toxigenic A. flavus can be attributed to the antimicrobial metabolites. These metabolites can be extracted and used as biopreservatives in food products to substitute the use of chemical preservatives that is not appealing to consumers due to several side effects.
