Euryale ferox is only annual hydrophyte among endangered plants in Korea and its seed is high valuable medicinal material. This studies were carried to find out key factors that made E. ferox endanger in Korea and to apply the results for effective management of the natural wetlands inhabited by E. ferox. We investigated the distributed sites reported by previous studies and classified the distribution-affected factors into three categories, eutrophication(hypothesis 1), soil accumulation(hypothesis 2) and increasing of water level(hypothesis 3) in the habitat. These three hypotheses were tested in the field and explained the results with the morphological characteristics of seed germination stages of E. ferox. The geographical distribution ranges of E. ferox diminished at a rate of $1^{\circ}$ latitude with about 10 natural wetlands for last 30 years. Water eutrophication in the wetland had a positive effect on the establishment of E. ferox. But higher in soil accumulation and water depth, then lower in the establishment rate of E. ferox. These results indicate that water depth in the wetland must be below 50cm during the germination season, especially in May and emergent hydrophytes filter zone is need to protect soil accumulation from soil erosion within its watershed for the effective management of wetland with E. ferox.
To investigate the flora and vegetation structure of vascular plants in the littoral zone of Paldang Reservoir, from April, 2003 to April 2004, nine sampling sites were selected. Along the Paldang Reservoir, 128 taxa, consisted of 51 families and 96 genera, were identified, among them, hydrophytes were confirmed as 38 taxa, which was comprised 29.7% to total taxa, whereas hygrophytes were 44 taxa and terrestrial plants were 46 taxa. Emergent hydrophytes consists of 21 taxa, including Phragmites australis and Typha angustifolia, and next, submerged hydrophytes were 8 taxa. However, the kinds and vegetation area of submerged hydorphytes were reduced compared to previous studies. In the littoral zone of Paldang Reservoir, the aquatic vegetation was widely developed near Dumulmori, Yangsuri, and Kwangdong Bridge, downstream of Kyungancheon. The average number of hydrophyte per sampling sites were 2.7 taxa, whereas hygrophytes were 2.5, and land plants were 1.8. In addition, the hydrophytes in the littoral zone of Paldang Reservoir showed the typical vertical zonation pattern like a natural swamp. These results mean that the littoral zone of Paldang Reservoir has the typical characteristics of aquatic plant ecosystem.
In this study the main purpose is to reduce non-point source pollution and improve water quality of Hoeya reservoir using constructed wetlands. As part of the efforts to improve water quality of the reservoir, cattail and reed-wetland cells were constructed in front of the reservoir to remove nitrogen(N) and phosphorus(P). Also, effects of hydraulic and seasonal variation on removal efficiencies of N and P were investigated. Total P and N removal efficiencies of the wetland system were approximately 20.7% and 42.7%, respectively. Removal efficiencies of N and P during the growth season (july to august) and blooming season of cattail and reed (september to october) were higher than other seasons. These results suggest that wetland system could be an effective alternative for control of non-point source pollutnat such as N and P of reservoir.

The purpose of this study is to present the basic data for management of ecologically restored stream by surveying and analysing the vascular plants distributed in Chunghyocheon stream, Gyeongju-si. The survey of vascular plants in this site was conducted before and after restoration. The number of vascular plants were summarized as 276 taxa including 68 families, 188 genera, 242 species, 1 subspecies, 29 varieties and 4 forms. The rare plants were 2 taxa including Prunus yedoensis Matsum. and Iris ensata var. spontanea (Makino) Nakai, and the Korean endemic plant was Lespedeza maritima Nakai. The specific plants by floristic region were 13 taxa including 1 taxa of grade V, 3 taxa of grade III, 1 taxa of grade II and 8 taxa of grade I. The naturalized plants were 62 taxa including Persicaria orientalis (L.) Spach, Lepidium virginicum L., Poa compressa L. and so forth. The invasive alien plants were 3 taxa including Ambrosia artemisiifolia L., Aster pilosus Willd. and Lactuca scariola L.. The hydrophytes were 34 taxa including 26 taxa of emergent plant, 1 taxa of floating-leaved plant, 2 taxa of free-floating plant and 5 taxa of submerged plant.
In this study, we compared efficiency of different aquatic plants in removing indoor pollutants and examined their potential to purify indoor air. Two liter of water in chamber was used as the control, while the other chambers containing water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes), water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), and water coin (Hydrocotyle umbellata) were used as treatment groups. Temperatures inside all the chambers were maintained between 20 ℃ and 23 ℃. Humidity in the chambers with aquatic plants increased by 30% and 50% control respectively. The removal of formaldehyde per unit leaf area was examined in each aquatic plant. It turned out that water hyacinth removed the highest amount of formaldehyde, followed by water lettuce and water coin. Both water hyacinth and water lettuce increased the amount of removal of formaldehyde until the end of the experiment. In the case of airborne dust (PM 10) and fine dust (PM 2.5), water coin, which had the highest number of leaves, removed more PM 10 and PM 2.5 than the other aquatic plants, with statistically significant difference. In addition, both water coin and water hyacinth smoothly opened and closed stomata before and after the experiment. Consequently, as the aquatic plants were effective in controlling humidity and removing pollutants, they can be used as air purifying plants.

In order to investigate the occurrence of Pectinatella magnifica in Nakdong River, extensive series of sampling was conducted through July to November of 2014. Results revealed that these species show preference to attach themselves on natural substrates over artificial substrates. P. magnifica does not show preference for specified substrates, but itappearthat availability of substrates determines their specific distribution. Considering that most commonly found substrates in Nakdong River were natural substrates such as dead twig, woody plants or aquatic plants, it is possible that high availability of substrates is one of the principal factors which increase the rates of growth and distribution of P. magnifica.
Endophytic fungal strains were isolated from 5 aquatic plant species (Trapa japonica, Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Oenanthe javanica, Typha orientalis and Zizania latifolia) native to river wetland of tributary in Nakdong river. Total 34 strains were purely isolated, and then its internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions were amplified. After that, phylogenetic analysis based on ITS sequences and deduction of diversity indices were done. Fungal isolates were belonged to 17 genera, concretely in Acremonium, Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cladosporium, Emericellopsis, Fusarium, Galactomyces, Leptosphaeria, Microsphaeropsis, Penicillium, Peyronellaea, Phoma, Pseudeurotium, Rhizomucor, Talaromyces, Trematosphaeria and Zalerion. Especially, fungal isolates were distributed intensively in genera Alternaria and Talaromyces. This study deals with the diversity of endophytic fungal species that showing symbiotic relationship with their host aquatic plants.
According to the survey map, the altitudes of up and down the Ansungchon were 242m and 49m accordingly. The width of the river was 4m at upperstream and became wider, lam at midstream and 114m at downstream. Water pH of the Ansungchon was measured variously in the range of 6.0-7.9 according to the surveyed times and areas. The water pH measured during June through August decreased continually and suddenly increased at the end of October. Phragmites iaponica, a major species of the fresh water emergent anchored hydrophytes, was surveyed mostly in the area of upperstream, Phragmites communis, Miscanthus sacchariflorus and Typha orientalis were surveyed in the areas of midstream and downstream, and Zizania latifolia was found in all areas of the river. The total of 101 taxa dividing into 32 families, 71 genera, 88 species, and 13 varieties have been inhabited in these areas. Among the inhabited plants, Poaceae was 21.8%, which appeared in the highest percent. Compositae was 20.8%, and Polygonaceae was 11.9%. In the surveyed areas, herbaceous plants were 95.1% and mostly occupied, and woody plants were 4.9%. Among the herbaceous plants, perennial plants were 52.5%, and annual and biannual plants were 28.7% and 13.9% accordingly. Naturalized plants dividing into 8 families and 18 genera have been found in the surveyed areas. The number of the naturalized plants increased from upperstream to downstream as the environmental disruption became worse. Only 2.5% of the total naturalized plants were appeared in up, 17.7% in midstream, and 28.6% in downstream. Shannon-Weiner's index for the degree of diversity was 2.898-3.666 in the area of upperstream, but 3.708-4.135 in downstream, which was little higher.
