In this article we describe our preliminary work to create VR interactive storytelling particularly for building empathic relationships between the reader (or the player) and story characters. As a practical guideline for developing empathy-based VR interactive story, we propose four key factors: first, narrativity considering narrative theories and concepts including the notion of focalization by Gerald Genette; second, interactivity for balancing between narrative and player control in interactive storytelling domain; third, consideration of virtual reality in human computer interaction domain; fourth, empathy in narrative from the viewpoint of psychology and cognitive science. We also introduce an example interactive storytelling scenario based on Little Red Riding Hood story. Finally we conclude with our VR implementation using Unreal game engine and HTC Vive.
When processing the biomass by Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC), a slow pyrolysis process, it produces bio-gas, biooil, and biochar. Among these end products, biochar is known for isolating or storing carbon and being used as a soil amendment. In this study, the characteristics of biochar generated by HTC at $250^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, and 20 hours with synthetic food wastes and wood wastes were analyzed for potential uses in soil contaminated with heavy metals. The yield of biochar (weight %) increased when the ratio of wood wastes increased and showed a decreasing tendency as reaction time increased. Elemental analysis of biochar based on various conditions showed a maximum of 70% carbon (C) content. The carbon content showed an increasing tendency with the increase of wood wastes. Iodine adsorption test was peformed to determine the optimum reaction condition, which was 15% wood waste for mixing ratio and 2 hours for reaction time. Using biochar generated at the optimum condition, its capability of adsorbing heavy metals (Cd, Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni) was evaluated. It was concluded that lead (Pb) was removed efficiently while zinc (Zn) and nickel (Ni) were hardly adsorbed by biochar.

Concomitant with development of AR(Augmented Reality) and VR(Virtual Reality), interest in location based games and augmented reality have increased and various services have been developed. Due to this, AR, VR, MR(Merged Reality) techniques are considered one of fourth industrial revolution techniques. Oculus Rift which is representative of VR technology, and HTC VIVE need separate controllers, and don't offer service such as receiving external video information when users are using devices. In the case of project Alloy, which is a MR device of Intel, this has advantages such as controlling devices through hand signals and facial expressions, and receiving external video information. In this paper, we propose tourist guide system based on current position using MR. This system makes economical tour possible by arranging tourist attraction information which is from current position of tourists in correct places through external video information using MR, location determination using GPS, tourism information search using wireless internet.
This study aims to the effectiveness of physical examination using VR contents to solve problems such as the increase in chronic diseases and shortage of professional manpower in the health care field according to the aging and low birth rate, and to provide efficient healthcare. Therefore, this study implemented a one-stop VR content physical examination system by wearing HTC VIVE Pro VR and a stick controller. The system is from step 1 to step 5, and the final body age is determined and a simple solution is provided through five steps sequentially: color blind test, memory test, audiogram test, reaction speed test, and instantaneous cognitive ability test. In addition, for the one-stop VR content physical examination system developed by this study, as a result of verifying the user satisfaction for normal people who visited the health examination center and VR/AR clinical trial center of certified tertiary hospital in Daejeon, the overall satisfaction and the intention to reuse Was high, and according to gender, there was a significant difference in the 5-step test, and according to the age, there were significant differences in the 4-step test and the 5-step test.

Sulfur dioxide (SO2), a novel endogenous gas signaling molecule, is involved in the regulation of cardiac function. Exerting a key role in progression of hyperthyroidism-induced cardiomyopathy (HTC), myocardial fibrosis is mainly caused by myocardial apoptosis, leading to poor treatment outcomes and prognoses. This study aimed to investigate the effect of SO2 on the hyperthyroidism-induced myocardial fibrosis and the underlying regulatory mechanisms. Elisa, Masson staining, Western-Blot, transmission electron microscope, and immunofluorescence were employed to evaluate the myocardial interstitial collagen deposition, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), apoptosis, changes in endogenous SO2, and Hippo pathways from in vitro and in vivo experiments. The study results indicated that the hyperthyroidism-induced myocardial fibrosis was accompanied by decreased cardiac function, and down-regulated ERS, apoptosis, and endogenous SO2-producing enzyme aspartate aminotransferase (AAT)1/2 in cardiac myocytes. In contrast, exogenous SO2 donors improved cardiac function, reduced myocardial interstitial collagen deposition, up-regulated AAT1/2, antagonized ERS and apoptosis, and inhibited excessive activation of Hippo pathway in hyperthyroid rats. In conclusion, the results herein suggested that SO2 inhibited the overactivation of the Hippo pathway, antagonized ERS and apoptosis, and alleviated myocardial fibrosis in hyperthyroid rats. Therefore, this study was expected to identify intervention targets and new strategies for prevention and treatment of HTC.
As one of the starting materials, methylthioacetyl chloride(7) was synthesized in fair yield from mercaptoacetic acid via methyl methylthioacetate(5) prepared by alkylation employing N, N'-dicyclohexyl-O-methylisourea(4). Then 1-$\beta$-D-arabinofuranosylcytosine-5'-methylthioacetate (3) was prepared by esterification of ara-C with obtained methylthioacetyl chloride and tested for inhibitory activity on DNA synthesis in the growing primary hepatocytes and hepatoma strains($H_4$-II-E and HTC cells). In these in vitro cell lines, the inhibitory effect of ara-C-MTA(3) on DNA synthesis was similar to that of its parent ara-C but slightly lower.

Epifluorescence microscopy and direct viable counting methods have shown that only 0.01-0.1% of all the microbial cells from marine environments form colonies on standard agar plates. To culture novel marine microorganisms, high throughput culturing (HTC) techniques were developed to isolate cells in very low nutrient media. This approaches was designed to address microbial metabolic precesses that occur at natural substrate concentrations and cell densities, which are typically about three orders of magnitude less than in common laboratory media. Approximately 5000 cultures of pelagic marine bacteria were examined over the course of 3 years. Up to 14% of cells from coastal seawater were cultured using this method, a number that is 1400 to 140-fold higher than obtained by traditional microbiological culturing techniques. Among the cultured organisms are many unique phylogenetic lineages that have been named as new phyla (7), orders (2, 5, 12), families (3), and genera (1, 4, 6). Over 90% of the cells recovered by this method do not replicate in standard agar plating, the most common method of microbial cell cultivation.
Possibility of large scale ethanol fermentation from sweet potato were compared with low temperature and high temperature rooking. Productivity of sweet potato mash cooked at 9$0^{\circ}C$ for 120 minutes was higher than that mash cooked at 124$^{\circ}C$ for 60 minutes and also fermentation yield ai low temperature cooking was better than high temperature cooking. Low temperature cooking was successfully carried out on a large scale. In conclusion, low temperature cooking on large scale should be reduce energy consumption by approximate 30% compared with high temperature cooking.
