  • In this paper, a design method of the simulation program for HILS(Hardware-In-the-Loop Simulation) system is proposed. The present method consists of definition of requirements for HILS, development of specifications, and implementation of the program to satisfy the specifications. In the implementation of the program, the application of hardware interface and the concept of structural modularization are proposed to satisfy the specifications. The concepts of CSCI(Computer Software Configuration Item) and encapsulation are used for structural modularization. The proposed method was practically applied to the development of the simulation program for the efficient operation in HILS of an anti-ship missile system.

  • In this paper, Power Generator modeling for LNG ship has been performed and monitoring system has been developed in MATLAB/SIMULINK. The principal component of Power Generator are engine part(Diesel Engine, Turbine Engine) which provides the mechanical power and synchronous generator which convert the mechanical power into electrical power. Also, load sharing between paralleled generators has been performed to share a total load that exceeds the capacity of a single generator and designated ship lumped load simulations have been carried out. A validity of these systems has been verified by comparison between simulation results and estimated result from the designated lumped load.

  • Design and application of hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) for design of CNC-controlled machine tool feed drives is discussed. The CNC machine tool is a complex mechatronics system where the complexity results from the software-based controller composed of a variety of functionalities and advanced control algorithms. Therefore, using a real CNC controller in the control simulation has merits considering the efforts and accuracy of the simulation modeling. In this paper challenges in HILS for a CNC controlled feed drive, such as minimization of time delay and transmission error that are caused by discretization of the feed drive model, is elaborated. Using an experimental HILS setup of a machine tool feed drive applications in controller gain selection and CNC diagnostics are presented.

  • Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) has been focused as a promising power source, which can replace a diesel engine regarding as major source of air pollution by the ship, due to high efficiency and eco-friendly. High operating temperature of SOFC is enable to secure of high efficiency, use various fuels and no need of high priced catalyst, but it may damage to components of SOFC. Therefore temperature control system has to be designed and validated before employing the fuel cell system for securing high efficiency and reliability. In this paper, instead of using typical method to validate performance of the controller, which consumes high cost and time, performance validation system using Hardware-in-the-loop simulation was developed and validated performence of the designed temperature controller for SOFC system.

  • HILS(Hardware-ln-the-Loop Simulation) is a scheme that incorporates hardware components of primary concern in the numerical simulation environment. Due to its advantages over actual vehicle test and pure simulation, HILS is being widely accepted in automotive industries as test benches for vehicle control units. Developed in this study is a HILS system for VDC(Vehicle Dynamics Control) with a valve control system that modulates the brake pressures at low wheels. Two VDC control logics were developed and tested in the HILS system. Test results under various driving conditions are presented in this paper.

  • In this paper, a modified skyhook control for the semi-active Macpherson suspension system is investigated. A new model for the semi-active type suspension, which incorporates the rotational motion of the unsprung mass, is introduced and an output feedback control law using the skyhook control method is derived. The gains in the skyhook controller are adaptively adjusted by estimating the road conditions. Because two vertical acceleration sensors, one for the sprung mass and another for the unsprung mass, are used rather than using the angle sensor for the rotational motion of the control arm, the relative velocity of the rattle space is filtered using the acceleration signals. For testing the control performance, the actual damping force has been incorporated via the hardware-in-the-loop simulations. The performances of a passive damper and a semi-active damper are compared. Simulation results are provided.

  • Development of Small UAV using HILS (Hardware In the Loop Simulation) can be effectively used to improve the reliability of UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) while reducing cost and time. It is also possible to reduce the damage to people or property by simulating the malfunction of the Flight Control Computer (FCC) that may occur during the actual flight. For applying such HILS, a real-time simulation environment capable of providing an environment similar to an actual flight condition is required. In this paper, we constructed a real - time HILS environment for Small UAV using 6 D.O.F motion table. In order to link the 6 D.O.F motion table developed in the previous research with the HILS environment in real time, the motion algorithm was changed from the position control method to the velocity control method. Also, we implemented modeling of inverse kinematics model for command transmission in Matlab $Simulink^{(R)}$ and verified the action of motion table according to the simulation model.

  • Real time vehicle dynamics models have been developed with the subsystem synthesis method for intelligent vehicle HILS system. Three different models for solving subsystem equations are compared in order to find out the best suitable model for HILS applications. The first model is based on the generalized coordinate partitioning technique, and the second one is on the approximate function approach, and the last one is on the constraint stabilization method. To investigate the theoretical efficiency of three proposed methods, arithmetic operators used in the formulations of three models are counted. Bump run simulations with half-sine bump have also carried out with three different models to measure the actual CPU time to validate theoretical investigation.
