  • We have studied and researched about the pipe steel tower. Which can be designed briefly with fewer members and due to electrical supported with single member economically and safely as higher structure and bigger load is required for 765kv T/L and it is difficult to transmit the electricity with good quality Safely and economically by the traditional steel tower composed of single angle.

  • To develop and improve a GIS(Gas Insulated Switchgear), the prediction of the pressure in puffer cylinder and the flow between the nozzle and the moving electrode within GIS is very important. The leading companies in GIS business issue the results of the study of flow within GIS including arc plasma. In this study, the characteristics of the flow of the GIS developed by HHI(Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.) was investigated. To simulate the compressible flow of GIS, the CFX, a commercial CFD code, was used. With moving grid method, the movement of piston and electrode was simulated. The moving grid method was superior to the method of varying the property of cells to move an obsticle, in stability and convergencce of solution. The calculated maximum pressure within the puffer cylinder was matched with experimental data within $5{\%}$ error. The oscilation of pressure in GIS after the movement of electrode was well predicted.

  • Recent icebreaking ships need to be designed to enhance not only icebreaking capability but also turning ability. For the evaluation of ice resistance induced by an icebreaking hull form, HHI (Hyundai Heavy Industries) has developed the hybrid empirical formulas (Park et al., 2015) by considering the geometrical hull shape features, such as waterline and underwater sections. However, the empirical formulas have inherent limits to the precise estimation of the icebreaking and turning ability because the breaking process and the resulting pattern are ignored. For this reason, numerical calculation in time domain is performed to predict the icebreaking process and pattern. In the simulation, varying crushing stress according to velocity vectors and contact areas between hull and ice is newly introduced. Moreover, the simulation results were verified by comparing them with the model test results for three different bow-first icebreaking models.

  • Electro Electric Systems Division of HHI is developing new series of models for industrial mid/compact size motors to satisfy the demand of costumers. Various essential technologies are required for motors to support design technology on design and development stage. Conventional motors have several things to analyze for mechanical strength and structural deformation during manufacturing process or operation. Therefore, the manufacturing cost will be reduced and the danger of accident during operation will be prevented by recognizing and revising the problems prior to actual manufacturing and operation. 112 Frame motor (3.7 kW) has been analyzed for this study and the basic analysis technology is eventually developed by analyzing other models gradually (sequence of 112, 135, 250, 200, 280, 225, 160, 180 Frame motors). Then, the developed technologies are established as main factors to support the motor design technology and competitive motors will be manufactured to satisfy the costumers.

  • The dynamic range of the radar which uses digital signal processors is limited by ADC(analog- to-digital converter). This parameter and ADC loss depend on the noise level of radar receivers. In order to stabilize the performance of radar systems, it is necessary to maintain the noise level constantly. This paper presents a noise AGC(automatic gain control) concept that can keep the noise level constantly and proves that the concept is acceptable through evaluation and hardware test.

  • Since recent inverters are formed IGBT VVVF inverter its switching speed has been increased relative to the conventional inverters and the motor design based on the switching surge voltage at the inverter output is very important factor. Therefore, motor and inverter should be designed to have the optimal characteristics by considering the mutually limited conditions. On this research the design technology characteristics for inverter driving traction moor is compared to the products in Korea and the analysis is performed. Thus, it is intend to re-estimate the technology level and introduce the products by HHI, which is driving on Seoul subway line 6 since December, 2000.

  • This paper presents recent studies on the on-line insulation monitoring and diagnostic systems for transformers developed by HHI. Sufficiently high sensitivity and accuracy for practical use were achieved for the system, combined with communication networks to provide an on-line remote monitoring system. Several alarm criteria are formulated to enable a superimposed monitoring system to perform decisive action. The reasons for monitoring the condition and maintaining the health of electrical apparatus were discussed. The experience at the fields and the criteria for the judgment are also discussed in detail.

  • In this paper, voltage controlled APF(Active Power Filter) is introduced to improve power factor and reduce harmonic generated from nonlinear load. The voltage controlled APF which is consisted of inverter and passive filter operates with nonlinear load simultaneously. According to the results of simulation, it is proved that the proposed system has the performance of improving power factor and reducing harmonics.

  • In this paper, the harmonic loss of the inverter driven induction motor was analyzed. It was analyzed through the theoretical consideration on the variations of equivalent circuit constants, and harmonic losses, including the effects of resistance increase and inductance decrease of stator, not through the general method that considering just the effects of the harmonic losses of only the rotor. It was verified by comparing the harmonic analysis results with the test results for HHI's inverter driven motor.
