A study on Code System of Latin Character to Improve Transmission Efficiency in Data Communications (데이터통신 전송효율과 라틴어 부호 체계 고찰)

  • This paper proposes the revised Roman character code system using Unicode 3.0. The background of the paper is whether the Latin character code system th using in the world in Unicode V.3 is proper or not in the side of the transmission efficiency in data communications. In data communications, when the consecutive 4 bits or 8 bits of "0" bit from the information devices input into the line coder, its consecutive "0" bits are scrambled to the predetermined bit patterns to avoid the syncronization loss. The paper was based on the statistical data for the using frequency of the alphabet letter and the proposed rule for characters coding in [1]. The paper was focused to improve of Unicode itself and UTF-8 code system. As a result of the paper, when the proposed coding systems for Latin character in Unicode 3.0 itself and UTF-8 code system, the scrambler efficiency using HDB-3 in the line coder of the data transmission system could be improved about 3645 ~ 31400% and 480 ~ 1700% respectively.

  • A multi-rotor vehicle is an unmanned vehicle consisting of multiple rotors. A multi-rotor vehicle can be categorized as tri-, quad-, hexa-, and octo-rotor depending on the number of the rotors. Multi-rotor vehicles have many advantages due to their agile flight capabilities such as the ability for vertical take-off, landing and hovering. Thus, they can be widely used for various applications including surveillance and monitoring in urban areas. Since multi-rotors are subject to uncertain environments and disturbances, it is required to implement robust attitude stabilization and flight control techniques to compensate for this uncertainty. In this research, an advanced nonlinear control algorithm, i.e. sliding mode control, was implemented. Flight experiments were carried out using an onboard flight control computer and various real-time autonomous attitude adjustments. The feasibility and robustness for flying in uncertain environments were also verified through real-time tests based on disturbances to the multi-rotor vehicle.

Coupled-Fed Planar Monopole Antenna for LTE/WWAN Mobile Handset Applications (LTE/WWAN 이동 통신 단말기 응용을 위해 커플드 급전된 평판 모노폴 안테나)

  • In this paper, a coupled-fed monopole antenna for LTE/WWAN mobile handset applications is presented. The antenna consists of a monopole, a coupling strip, a feeding pad, a stub, and a shorting strip. The basic resonance of the monopole combines with the resonance formed by the coupling that occurs between the coupling strip and the feeding pad to include LTE700(698~787 MHz), GSM850(824~894 MHz), and GSM900(890~960 MHz) bands. The resonance of the stub combines with the harmonics of the monopole to include GSM1800(1,710~1,880 MHz), GSM1900(1,850~1,990 MHz), and UMTS(1,920~2,170 MHz) bands. Therefore, the proposed antenna is suitable as antenna for hexa-band mobile handset applications, covering LTE700, GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, and UMTS bands. A stable and omni-directional radiation pattern with reasonable gains is observed within the operating bandwidth.

On the Distribution of PCBs and Organochlorine Pesticides in Fish and Sediment of the Asan Bay (아산만해역 어류체내와 퇴적물중의 PCB와 유기염소계농약 분포)

  • Distribution of Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and organochlorine pesticides in sediments, seawater and fish tissues were examined. Concentrations of ${\Sigma}PCBs$ and ${\Sigma}DDTs$ in the intertidal sediments of Asan Bay ranged from $1.90{\sim}3.27\;ng\;g^{-1}$ dw (dry weight) and $0.51{\sim}1.26\;ng\;g^{-1}$ dw, respectively. ${\Sigma}PCBs$ concentrations in the tissue of greenling (Hexagrammos otakii), olive flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) and finespotted flounder (Pleuronichthys cornutus) were $1.27{\pm}0.55$, $1.30{\pm}0.71$ and $1.19{\pm}0.43\;ng\;g^{-1}$ ww (wet weight), respectively. The profile of PCBs in the sediments and the 3 species of fish differed as witnessed by the dominance of tetra- to penta-chlorinated congeners in sediments while penta- to hexa-chlorinated congeners dominated in fish. ${\Sigma}DDTs$ concentrations were $0.67{\pm}0.52$, $0.79{\pm}0.61$, $1.58{\pm}1.05\;ng\;g^{-1}$ ww respectively in the tissue of greenling, olive flounder and finespotted flounder. The p,p'-DDE appeared to be the most important metabolite of DDT in studied fishes. The concentrations of PCBs and organochlorine pesticides measured in this study for fish were generally lower than those of previous studies. Compared to the pollutant concentration quality guidelines in marine fish, the environment of Asan Bay appears to be in a healthy state.

Characterization of simple sequence repeats in the Pleurotus ostreatus cultivars, 'Heuktari' and 'Miso' (느타리버섯 품종 '흑타리'와 '미소'의 초위성체 특성구명)

  • Simple sequence repeats (SSR), also referred to "microsatellites" consist of tandemly repeated short DNA sequence motifs and have been applied in various marker-based studies. SSRs were isolated and characterized from 'Heuktari' and 'Miso', which are major oyster mushroom cultivars in Korea, by genome sequencing and bioinformatic analysis. The genome sizes of 'Heuktari' and 'Miso' were estimated to be 40.8 and 40.3 Mb, respectively, which are larger than those of other P. ostreatus species (PC9 and PC10) and smaller than those of P. eryngii (KNR2312P5). In total, 949 and 968 SSRs were found in the 'Heuktari' and 'Miso' genomes, respectively. Comparative analysis of five mushrooms including P. ostreatus var. florida (PC9 and PC15) and P. eryngii revealed that the number of SSRs in 'Heuktari' and 'Miso' were the highest among them. All mushrooms studied showed similar SSR distribution patterns. Tri-, hexa-, and octanucleotide motifs accounted for the top three fractions of all SSRs.

  • Two of municipal waste incinerators were selected as surveying facilities to research on the emission of dioxin and precusors. The sampling of flue gas and analysis was performed in the selected facilities. From the result, the emission patterns of dioxin and precusors, their relatership were examined. The toxic equivalency quantity(TEQ) of dioxin concentration was evaluated in two municipal waste incinerators. The 76.24% and 60.84% of total dioxin concentration in A and B incinerator were made up of the penta-, hexa- and hepta-chlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin, respectively. Therefore, to reduce the dioxins in flue gas have to control the formation of furans. The chlorobenzenes and chlorophenols were analyzed in two incinerators. The 1,2,4,5-tetrachlorobenzene, penta-, and hexachlorobenzene are discharged and 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, 2,3,4,6-tetrachlorophenol and pentachlorophenol are discharged mainly in A and B municipal waste incinerators.

Preparation of UV curable coating solution from multi functional acrylates and characterization of optical properties of coated layer on PET film (다관능 아크릴레이트계 자외선 경화형 코팅액의 제조 및 이를 이용한 PET 필름 도막의 광학 특성 연구)

  • Ultraviolet curable coating solution was prepared with poly(ethylene glycol) acrylate oligomer and various mono and multi-functional acrylate monomers. The optical properties of UV cured coating layer on PET film with acrylate coating solution containing metal oxides, such as fumed silica and alumina, were also investigated to reduce light reflection on films. Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate which has 575 of average molecular weight was used as oligomer acrylate, and pentaerythritol triacrylate and dipentaerythritolpenta-/hexa acrylate were used as multi-functional acrylate monomers. Also, butyl acrylate was used to improve the adhesion as well as to reduce glass transition temperature to give a better flexability. 1-hydroxy cyclohexyl phenyl ketone was used as photoinitiator. We found out the metal oxides in acrylate coating solution showed a homogeneous dispersion from energy dispersive spectroscopy data. Transmittance and light reflection of coated PET film was measured with UV/vis spectrometer and gloss meter, respectively. When 1.00 g of both metal oxides was added into coating solution, the transmittance and the glossiness were reduced from 90% to 30% and from 190 GU to 35 GU, respectively. However, adding up to 1.00 g of the metal oxide into coating solution did not affect on the hardness of coating layer and adhesion between coated layer and PET film. Conclusively, we can control transmittance and light reflection of coated film by adjusting the amounts of metal oxide in coating solution.

Differential Expression of O-glycoprotein Glycans in Cholangiocarcinoma Cell Lines

  • Protein glycosylation is the most common posttranslational modification in mammalian cells. Aberrant protein glycosylation has been reported in various diseases, including cancer. We identified and quantified the glycan structures of O-linked glycoprotein from cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) cell lines from different histological types and compared their profiles by nanospray ionization-linear ion trap mass spectrometry (NSI-$MS^n$). Five human CCA cell lines, K100, M055, M139, M213 and M214 were characterized. The results showed that the O-linked glycans of the CCA cell lines comprised tri- to hexa-saccharides with terminal galactose and sialic acids: NeuAc1Gal1GalNAc1, Gal2GlcNAc1GalNAc1, NeuAc2Gal1GalNAc1 NeuAc1Gal2GlcNAc1GalNAc1 and NeuAc2Gal2GlcNAc1GalNAc1 All five CCA cell lines showed a similar glycan pattern, but with differences in their quantities. NeuAc1Gal1GalNAc1 proved to be the most abundant structure in poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (K100; 57.1%), moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma (M055; 42.6%) and squamous cell carcinoma (M139; 43.0%), while moderately to poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma (M214; 40.1%) and adenosquamous cell carcinoma (M213; 34.7%) appeared dominated by $NeuA_{c2}Gal_1GalNA_{c1}$. These results demonstrate differential expression of the O-linked glycans in the different histological types of CCA. All five CCA cell lines have abundant terminal sialic acid (NeuAc) O-linked glycans, suggesting an important role for sialic acid in cancer cells. Our structural analyses of glycans may provide important information regarding physiology of disease-related glycoproteins in CCA.

  • Inositols are cyclohexanehexol and they have been known to be nine stereomers. Scyllo-inositol, epi-inositol and muco-inositol could be synthesized from myo-inositol. Scyllo-inositol and epi-inositol were obtained by oxidation and reduction process from myo-inositol. Myo-inositol and epi-inositol were oxidized by treatment, in solution, with dilute hydrogen peroxide. In all cases, only axial hydroxyl groups were oxidized and monoketons were obtained. Reduction of myo-inosose-2 with sodium boron hydride was carried out in $pH2{\sim}3.$ The reduction products were equatorial alcohol but: reduction of DL-epi-inosose-2 by catalytic reduction produced axial alcohol obtained. Inositol could be esterified. Hexa-O-(p-hydroxy benzoyl)-esters of myo-inositol, scyllo-inositol, epi-inositol and muco-inositol were synthesized and their antimicrobial action on microbes were tested for application to food industry. As the results, it was found that the activities of muco-inositol ester was more vigorous than others.

Inactivation of the Wall-Associated De-N-acetylase (PgdA) of Listeria monocytogenes Results in Greater Susceptibility of the Cells to Induced Autolysis

  • Several species of Gram-positive bacteria have cell wall peptidoglycan (syn. murein) in which not all of the sugar moieties are N-acetylated. This has recently been shown to be a secondary effect, caused by the action of a peptidoglycan N-acetylglucosamine deacetylase. We have found that the opportunistic pathogen Listeria monocytogenes is unusual in having three enzymes with such activity, two of which remain in the cytoplasm. Here, we examine the enzyme (PgdA) that crosses the cytoplasmic membrane and is localized in the cell wall. We purified a hexa-His-tagged form of PgdA to study its activity and constructed a mutant devoid of functional Lmo0415 (PgdA) protein. L. monocytogenes PgdA protein exhibited peptidoglycan N-acetylglucosamine deacetylase activity with natural substrates (peptidoglycan) from both L. monocytogenes and Escherichia coli as well as the peptidoglycan sugar chain component N-acetylglucosamine, but not with N-acetylmuramic acid. As was reported recently [6], inactivation of the structural gene was not lethal for L. monocytogenes nor did it affect growth rate or morphology of the cells. However, the pgdA mutant was more prone to autolysis induced by such agents as Triton X-100 and EDTA, and is more susceptible to the cationic antimicrobial peptides (CAMP) lysozyme and mutanolysin, using either peptidoglycan muramidases or autolysis-inducing agents. The pgdA mutant was also slightly more susceptible than the wild-type strain to the action of certain beta-lactam antibiotics. Our results indicate that protein PgdA plays a protective physiological role for listerial cells.
