  • The objective of this study was to compare wound healing in stomach with $CO_{2}$ laser and scalpel incision by measuring the extent of bleeding, the ease of gastric incision, incision time, degree of adhesion and wound healing degree in dogs. Sixteen healthy dogs were used. Two symmetrical incisions were made in ventral aspect of the stomach between the greater and lesser curvatures were made with scalpel and 0.2 mm spot diameter $CO_{2}$ laser (8W, continuous wave) in sixteen dogs. And then each wound was closed with absorbable suture in a two-layer inverting seromuscular pattern. At 3, 7, 14 and 21 days after initial wounding, each wound was taken for histological observation. On surgery, the extent of bleeding, the ease of incision and incision time showed significant differences between the groups. The $CO_{2}$ laser provided better hemostasis (p < 0.05) and smaller postoperative adhesion compared with the scalpel. However, the scalpel produced faster speed of incision and was easier to handle than the $CO_{2}$ laser (p < 0.05). Although there was no considerable difference between the two groups in histological observation, necrosis and calcium deposit tended to be larger in the $CO_{2}$ laser than in the scalpel.

  • $Si_3N_4/SiC$ composite ceramics was sintered in order to investigate their bending strength behavior after crack healing. $Y_2O_$ and $TiO_2$ power was added as sintering additives to enhance it's sintering property. A three-point bending specimen was cut out from sintered plates. About $100\;{\mu}m$ semi-circular surface cracks were made on the center of the tension surface of the three-point bending specimen using Vickers indenter. After the crack-healing processing from $500^{\circ}C$ to $1300^{\circ}C$, for 1 h, in air, the bending strength behavior of these crack-healed specimen coated with $SiO_2$ colloidal were determined systematically at room temperature. $Si_3N_4/SiC$ ceramics using additive powder ($Y_2O_3+TiO_2$) was superior to that of additive powder $Y_2O_3$. The additive powder $TiO_2$ exerted influence at growth of $Si_3N_4$. The optimum crack healing conditions coated $SiO_2$ colloidal were $1000^{\circ}C$ at $Si_3N_4/SiC$ using additive powder ($Y_2O_3+TiO_2$), and $1300^{\circ}C$ at $Si_3N_4/SiC$ using additive powder $Y_2O_3$.

  • The present study is following a series of research investigations on design resources coming from collected data referring to users' awareness and preferences. The aim of this research is to test the Healthcare Environmental Color Index as a basis for practitioners in the field of healthcare design. An array of color samples selected from previous research, have been presented to the respondents via an online survey, in order to identify the preferences of the two groups on the relation between environmental color and health. As a result of the first experiment and through the comparison of processed data, the maximum percentage of respondents from each group is validating the relation between environmental color and health. For the second experiment we intend to highlight the patterns of color preferences for each group, and thus to test the color samples healing function. The compared data also showed a higher awareness of Koreans than Romanians on the potential of color applied to healing environment. Last but not least in the third experiment we show the top five color samples preferred by each group. It is significant that the comparison of the results validated once more some of our previous findings related to the healthcare environment, such as: the general preference for the green hue (associated to fatigue relax according to color psychology) and the blue hue (sedation release effect) but also the yellow hue - associated to bright energy. Three out of the top five preferred color samples have been identical to both groups while the other two samples have shown characteristic variations. These results show that similarities are strong and can be used in a glocal design strategy as an accessible tool for any practitioner. Based on the Healthcare Environmental Color Index and users' preferences analysis, a new design culture for healthcare can be established and developed.

  • Eucommiae Cortex (EC), bark of Eucommia ulmoides, has been known as a traditional medicine to regulate hypertension and immune system. Because silk of gum in the EC blocks the release of active ingredients, EC generally has been utilized after processing with carbonization or salt-water to breakdown it. This study aimed to investigate the differences of non-processed EC and processed EC on antioxidant and anticancer properties. Antioxidant capacity was assessed by measuring the content of total polyphenols, reducing power, and ABTS radical scavenging effect. And anticancer effects were examined by evaluating the viability of pancreatic cancer cells and wound healing ability. The results demonstrated that processed EC contained more content of polyphenols and exhibited more potent reducing power and radical scavenging effect than non-processed EC. In addition, processed EC more efficiently inhibited proliferation and migration of pancreatic cancer cells. These results suggest that processing of medicinal plants can improve the biological properties such as antioxidant or anticancer activity, which may lead to the development of herbal medicine treatment technology.

  • The ICT healing platform sets a couple of goals including preventing chronic diseases and sending out early disease warnings based on personal information such as bio-signals and life habits. The 2-step open system(TOS) had a relay designed between the healing platform and the storage of personal health data. It also took into account a publish/subscribe(pub/sub) service based on large-scale connections to transmit(monitor) the data processing process in real time. In the early design of TOS pub/sub, however, the same buffers were allocated regardless of connection idling and type of message in order to encode connection messages into a deflate algorithm. Proposed in this study, the dynamic buffer allocation was performed as follows: the message transmission type of each connection was first put to queuing; each queue was extracted for its feature, computed, and converted into vector through tf-idf, then being entered into a k-means cluster and forming a cluster; connections categorized under a certain cluster would re-allocate the resources according to the resource table of the cluster; the centroid of each cluster would select a queuing pattern to represent the cluster in advance and present it as a resource reference table(encoding efficiency by the buffer sizes); and the proposed design would perform trade-off between the calculation resources and the network bandwidth for cluster and feature calculations to efficiently allocate the encoding buffer resources of TOS to the network connections, thus contributing to the increased tps(number of real-time data processing and monitoring connections per unit hour) of TOS.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the types, socio-demographic characteristics, use patterns, and visit motivations of visitors to "Jangseong Pyunbaek Healing Forest (JPHF)." Data were collected from 216 samples selected by convenient sampling method using questionnaire survey between October and November 2016. Data obtained from 476 respondents of the same type of survey during the same period were partly used to examine the types of activities of visitors to the study site. The results showed that 77.0 percent of respondents were categorized as "visitor for recreation" (VR: Those who visit JPHF for the purpose of general recreational experiences such as appreciating landscapes, tourism, social interactions rather than better health or healing). On the other hand, only 10.3 percent of respondents were "visitor for healing" (VH: Those who visit JPHF for the purpose of better health or physical and mental healing). VH showed a higher level of visit experiences to JPHF than VR and tended to expect JPHF as "the place to enjoy calm and natural experiences" more than VR did. VH tended to visit JPHF "alone" more, and their group size was also smaller than VR. About 26.8 percent of all respondents were not aware that JPHF was the "healing forest," and VH showed higher awareness of it than VR. About 66.8% of respondents assessed the managerial and operating states of JPHF positively while only 6.2% assessed them negatively. There was no difference in the assessment of managerial and operating states between VR and VH. The visitors of JPHF showed the markedly high use in main forest roads (use rate: 47.4%) and "Healing Field" (use rate: 59.2%) of JPHF. Regarding the visit motivations to JPHF, VH showed higher importance on "quietude," "health," and "tension release" than VR while VR rated higher importance on "social interaction." The paper discussed the managerial implications, findings, limitations and further studies.

  • This research intends to find the concept of eco-village in suburban area which various people can experience. For this, we established general ideas through theoretical reflections, and found an objective of suburban eco-village through functional practices. According to the research, a composition of eco-village to reduce the environmental load consists of three major functions. First, by forming traditional meanings of eco-village community, it creates eco-friendly life through energy saving and resource recycling. Second, it functions as relieving the stress of the urbanites and healing their mind and body in the nature of formed eco-village community. Finally, the implementation of eco-village is an idea of group of people who tends to live with nature. Thus, by recovering the nature and by preserving the nature with eco-friendly concept, it will be developed by a place where people can experience the importance of nature. However, these three functions should reflect regional characteristics sufficiently, and through saving and utilizing the history, culture and ecological resources of the regions, it gives positive support to local natives' sustainable life. Consequently, it will show the right direction of development of suburban eco-village through each case analysis of these three functions.

  • The forest landscape has been considered to be one of the most beneficial factors, in regard to facilitating the therapeutic effects of the forest environment. The aim of this study was to review the preceding literary works on the correlation between forest landscape and its therapeutic effects and to ponder on key factors of forest landscape that promotes therapeutic results on people's psychological and physiological responses. Literature found in domestic research databases was analyzed and examined in accordance with the 'Preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses(PRISMA)' process. Six papers out of 1,890 were selected as key literature to support the connection. The quality of forest landscape was found to be an integral environmental factor in determining the healing effects of forests. In particular, several factors, including forest types, aquatic elements within the forest landscape, forest-use density and aesthetic elements of forest landscape were found to be crucial for enhancing the therapeutic effects on people's wellbeing. Despite the limited sample groups in the analyzed literature, the results offered a significant insight in supporting the healing effects of forests. Further studies on this subject are required to provide more scientific data for verifying the quality of the therapeutic effects of forests.
