퍼지 추론을 이용한 HDD (Hard Disk Drive) 결함 분포의 패턴 분류 (A Pattern Classification of HDD (Hard Disk Drive) Defect Distribution Using Fuzzy Inference)

  • This paper proposes a pattern classification algorithm for the defect distribution of Hard Disk Drive (HDD). In the HDD production, the defect pattern of defective HDD set is important information to diagnosis of defective HDD set. In this paper, 5 characteristics are determined for the classification to six standard defect pattern classes. A fuzzy inference system is proposed, the inputs of which are 5 characteristic values and the outputs are the possibilities that the input pattern is classified to standard patterns. Therefore, classification result is the pattern with maximum possibility. The proposed algorithm is implemented with the PC system for defective HDD sets and shows its effectiveness.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy expert system for the fault diagnosis of Hard Disk Drive(HDD) test systems. The purposes of this system are diagnosis of HDD test systems, detection of system faults using test history, and presentation of the way of repair. Proposed Expert system is designed with Fuzzy logic and Binary Logic to present the way of repair using HDD tort result, HDD test history. The proposed system is simulated with actual data from SAMSUNG HDD product line in KUMI, KOREA, and show effective results.

  • Hard Disk Drive (HDD) test system is an equipment for the final test of HDD product by iterative read/write/seek test. This paper proposes an expert system for the fault diagnosis of HDD test systems. The purposed expert system is composed with two cascade inference, fuzzy logic and conventional binary logic. The fuzzy logic determines the possibility of the system fault using the test history data, then, the binary logic inferences the fault location of the test system. The proposed expert system is tested in SAMSUNG HDD production line, KUMI, KOREA, and shows satisfactory results.

  • 본 논문에서는 불량 하드디스크 드라이브의 수리판정 자동화를 위해 필요한 하드디스크 드라이브(Hard Disk Drive, HDD) 결함의 분포패턴의 분류에 관한 연구 결과를 소개한다. HDD 제조공정에서는 테스트 진행 중 검출된 결함에 관한 정보를 HDD 내부에 기록한다. 불량으로 판별된 HDD는 내부에 기록된 결함의 분포론 관찰한 후, 불량의 종류 및 그에 따른 처리방안을 결정한다. 본 논문에서는 효율적인 결함분포 패턴의 특징추출을 위해, 하드디스크의 물리적 특성에 대한 분석을 바탕으로 극좌표 (Polar Coordinates) 방식으로 표현된 결함 위치 데이터를 직교좌표(Cartesian Coordinates)로 변환한다. 그리고 디스크 상의 두 동심원 사이의 공간을 정해진 회전각별로 등분한 후, 나누어진 구간별로 결함 발생빈도 히스토그램 (Histogram) 분석을 수행하여 결함분포의 패턴을 분류하는 알고리즘을 제시한다. 설계된 알고리즘은 실제 HDD 제조공정에서 발생한 불량 HDD Set을 대상으로 적용한 결과, 그 효용성이 검증되었다.

  • In recent years new recording media and materials for head-disk interface (HDI) have been developed in order to increase the recording density of storage devices and decrease the cost of production. It is well known that HDI in hard disk drive (HDD) needs high durability and stability. The tribological characteristic of commercialized HDI systems is an important indicator of the HDD reliability. In this study, experimental investigation on the wear coefficient of commercialized hard disk slider pads was performed. The slider was placed on top of a hard disk and allowed to slide for a set distance. The wear of the pads was measured after the sliding tests. The result showed that the micro-bumps in commercialized HDD have extremely low wear coefficient of $10^{-11}$. The results of this work may be used for further development of the HDI technology for HDD.

  • 하이브리드 하드디스크(Hybrid hard disk drive: H-HDD)가 SSD(Solid state drive)에 비해 경쟁력을 갖기 위해서는 저전력, 읽기 속도가 핵심 요소이다. 본 연구에서는 H-HDD에 장착되어 있는 비휘발성 메모리에 디스크 블록을 선반입하여 저전력과 응답시간을 향상시킬 수 있는 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 기법의 핵심은 시스템파일이나 자주 사용되는 파일은 파일단위로 캐싱하고 나머지는 블록단위로 선반입한다. 선반입은 디스크 큐를 서비스하고 남은 여유 시간에 우선순위가 높은 블록부터 실행되며 이때 사용되는 우선순위는 시간적, 지역적 지역성을 동시에 고려하여 결정된다. 실험 결과 제안 기법은 기존 기법에 비해 전력소모가 낮고 응답시간이 향상되었음을 확인하였다.

  • The head to disk spacing must be decreased to increase recording densities in hard disk drives. Recently, to decrease the head to disk spacing, smooth disk having no bumps onto the lading zone has used. In this research, we compared the number of particles generated in HDD with smooth and textured disks. We used a sampling method using a particle sampler and a CPC (condensation particle counter) to detect particles in HDD. First, we sampled and counted panicles generated with disk rotational speed and various rest times when the smooth disk and textured disks were used, then analyzed the sampled particles by SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and AES (auger electron spectroscopy). In results of measuring particles, more particles in case of LZT disk drive generated than that of the smooth disk drive in all test modes. The number of particles generated in the smooth disk was very low. The particle generation increased as the rest time increased (smooth/LZT disks) and more particles in case of LZT disk drive generated than that of the smooth disk drive. In results of analyzing particle components, Al, Ti, Si components were detected and we could not found differences between components in case of smooth/LZT disk drive.
