  • Graphene oxide (GO) was prepared by the Hummers and Offeman method from graphite. Two different types of functionalized graphene sheets (FGSs) were synthesized by using GO. Hexamethylamine (HDA) substituted vertically to the graphene sheet (Ver-HDA-GS) was synthesized from HDA and epoxy group in GSs. Whereas, horizontally substituted hexadecanol (HDO) to the GS(Hor-HDO-GS) was synthesized from HDO and alcohol groups via reduced GO (RGO), respectively. The structures of the GO, RGO, Ver-HDA-GS, and Hor-HDO-GS were identified by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR). In addition, we examined the thermal stability and morphology. Atomic force microscope (AFM) disclosed that Ver-HDA-GS consisted of one- or two-layer graphene regions. However, the Ver-HDA-GS layers showed average thickness of 1.76 nm. The thermal stabilities of the FGSs were better than those of the GO and RGO. The Ver- HDA-GS was well dispersed in common solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), toluene, chloroform, and decalin.

  • We cloned $hda1^+$ (histone deacetylase 1) of fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. The hda1 of S. pombe was previously reported to encode for an active histone deacetylase (Rundlett et al., 1996; Olsson et al., 1998). The $hda1^+$ is phylogenetically related to the new open reading frame HOS2 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and only shows a partial homology to the well-known histone deacetylase subclasses, RPD3 and HDA1. A single hda1 mRNA of 1.8 kb was detected at the same level in actively growing and nitrogen-starved cells. When highly over-expressed in S. pombe from an inducible promoter, $hda1^+$ inhibited cell proliferation and caused defects in morphology and cell division. The increased histone deacetylase activity was detected in hdar over-expressing cells. These results suggest that the Hda1p should function on the regulation of cell division possibly by (Allfrey, 1966) direct deacetylation of cytoskeletal (Wade et al., 1997) and cell division regulatory proteins, (Wolffe, 1997) or by controlling their gene expressions.

  • In this paper, durability evaluation and surface damage mechanism were investigated through solid particle erosion (SPE) test after applying hot-dip aluminizing (HDA) technology for the purpose of maintenance of marine economizer tube. Damaged surface shape was analyzed using SEM and 3D microscope. Compositional changes and microstructure of the HDA layer were analyzed through EDS and XRD. Durability was evaluated by analyzing weight loss and surface damage depth after SPE. HDA was confirmed to have a two-layer structure of Al and Al5Fe2. HDA+HT was made into a single alloy layer of Al5Fe2 by diffusion treatment. In the microstructure of HDA+HT, void and crack defect were induced during the crystal phase transformation process. The SPE damage mechanism depends on material properties. Plastic deformation occurred in the substrate and HDA due to ductility, whereas weight loss due to brittleness occurred significantly in HDA+HT. As a result, the substrate and HDA showed better SPE resistance than HDA+HT.

  • Histone acetylation and deacetylation play central roles in the regulation of chromatin structure and transcription by RNA polymerase II (RNA Pol II). Although Hda1 histone deacetylase complex (Hda1C) is known to selectively deacetylate histone H3 and H2B to repress transcription, previous studies have suggested its potential roles in histone H4 deacetylation. Recently, we have shown that Hda1C has two distinct functions in histone deacetylation and transcription. Histone H4-specific deacetylation at highly transcribed genes negatively regulates RNA Pol II elongation and H3 deacetylation at inactive genes fine-tunes the kinetics of gene induction upon environmental changes. Here, we review the recent understandings of transcriptional regulation via histone deacetylation by Hda1C. In addition, we discuss the potential mechanisms for histone substrate switching by Hda1C, depending on transcriptional frequency and activity.

  • Autonomous vehicle is a car which drives itself without any human interaction. SAE provides technical definitions for autonomous and international standards for test evaluation. Accordingly, automobile industry is actively researching development and evaluation of various ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), : representative technology of autonomous technology. Recently, ADAS is in the commercialization level such as ACC, LKAS, AEB, and HDA etc. And it also has issues about safety evaluation. The purpose of HDA in ADAS is reduced the driving load on highway. It has a function which can maintain lane keeping and control distance from forward vehicle. This function is evaluated to be useful for accident prevention. Therefore, this paper proposes the safety evaluation scenario of HDA, considering the domestic highway design criteria and the situation that may arise on the actual highway. We compared and analyzed the data acquired through simulation and actual vehicle test. And verified the reliability of the proposed safety evaluation scenario. The verified result is expected safety evaluation of HDA is possible even under the bad condition, which cannot be tested.

  • Interplay between histone acetylation and deacetylation is one of the key components in epigenetic regulation of transcription. Here we report the requirement of MoHDA1-mediated histone deacetylation during asexual development and pathogenesis for the rice blast fungus, Magnaporthe oryzae. Structural similarity and phylogenetic analysis suggested that MoHDA1 is an ortholog of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Hda1, which is a representative member of class II histone deacetylases. Targeted deletion of MoHDA1 caused a little decrease in radial growth and large reduction in asexual sporulation. Comparison of acetylation levels for H3K9 and H3K14 showed that lack of MoHDA1 gene led to significant increase in H3K9 and H3K14 acetylation level, compared to the wild-type and complementation strain, confirming that it is a bona fide histone deacetylase. Expression analysis on some of the key genes involved in asexual reproduction under sporulation-promoting condition showed almost no differences among strains, except for MoCON6 gene, which was up-regulated more than 6-fold in the mutant than wild-type. Although the deletion mutant displayed little defects in germination and subsequent appressorium formation, the mutant was compromised in its ability to cause disease. Wound-inoculation showed that the mutant is impaired in invasive growth as well. We found that the mutant was defective in appressorium-mediated penetration of host, but did not lose the ability to grow on the media containing H2O2. Taken together, our data suggest that MoHDA1-dependent histone deacetylation is important for efficient asexual development and infection of host plants in M. oryzae.

  • This study evaluated the effect of extraction conditions of yam (Dioscorea aimadoimo) on antioxidant, moisturizing, collagenase activity, proliferation, and migration. Yam has been recognized as a healthy food due to its various biological activities, such as anti-obesity, anti-constipation, anti-mutagenic activities, as well as its ability to decrease blood glucose and cholesterol levels. Electron donating ability of high temperature ethanol extract of Dioscorea aimadoimo (HDA) had shown 70.6% at 400 mg/ml, and low temperature ethanol extract of Dioscorea aimadoimo (LDA) had shown 40% at 400 mg/ml. SOD-like activities of LDA and HDA were 23% and 34% at 400 mg/ml respectively. LDA significantly reduced the activity of collagenase in a dose-dependent manner, which was higher than HDA. The water contents in LDA-treated skin and HDA-treated skin were increased by 45.63% and 38.65% than the placebo cream respectively. The cellular proliferation of human dermal fibroblast neonatal (HDFn) was evaluated by MTT and cell migration assay. Compared to control, the cell proliferation was elevated to 109.7% and 114% by the treatment of LDA and HDA respectively at the concentration of 200 mg/ml. In addition, LDA and HDA were induced cell migration in HDFn. Our study suggests that LDA and HDA should be a very useful cosmetic ingredient, as anti-aging and skin moisturizer.

  • In distributed video coding, low complexity encoder can be realized by shifting encoder-side complex processes to decoder-side. However, not only motion estimation/compensation processes but also complex LDPC decoding process are imposed to the Wyner-Ziv decoder, therefore decoder-side complexity has been one important issue to improve. LDPC decoding process consists of numerous iterative decoding processes, therefore complexity increases as the number of iteration increases. This iterative LDPC decoding process accounts for more than 60% of whole WZ decoding complexity, therefore it can be said to be a main target for complexity reduction. Previously, HDA (Hard Decision Aided) method is introduced for fast LDPC decoding process. For currently received parity bits, HDA method certainly reduces the complexity of decoding process, however, LDPC decoding process is still performed even with insufficient amount of parity request which cannot lead to successful LDPC decoding. Therefore, we can further reduce complexity by avoiding the decoding process for insufficient parity bits. In this paper, therefore, a parity request estimation method is proposed using bit plane-wise correlation and temporal correlation. Joint usage of HDA method and the proposed method achieves about 72% of complexity reduction in LDPC decoding process, while rate distortion performance is degraded only by -0.0275 dB in BDPSNR.

  • Purpose : To evaluate the usability of plan transfer between TOMO HD and Radixact, we compared the differences of dose in transferred plans by evaluating the dose of normal organ and target. TOMO HDA and Radixact. The completed plans were transferred each other and we compared the differences of dose by evaluating the DVH of each plans. Materials and Methods : We planned 4 different plans assuming the treatment of 2 cases in Head and Neck Cancer and 2 cases Prostate cancer. Each plan was designed so that 95 % of the prescription dose was irradiated over 99 % of the target volume, and the normal organ constraints dose was based on the SMC tolerance dose protocol. Each plan was transferred to each equipment and DVH(dose volume histogram) analysis of the transferred plans was compared and evaluated. Results : The Mean dose of CTV and GTV was increased and decreased in the transferred plans, but there was no significant differences. The target coverage of CTV and GTV was decreased in all cases of transferred plans from TOMO HAD to Radixact, and the change of CI and HI in CTV was within 0.1. Normal organ dose was increased in most cases when transferring from HAD to Radixact in both treatment plans. Conclusion : According to the results of this experiment, the target coverage was above the standard and the normal organ dose was almost same or decreased when transferring the plans from Radixact to HDA equipment. However the target coverage was reduced when transferring the plans from HDA to Radixact and there was an increase in dose in normal organs that could cause sever side effects such as Optic Chiasm ($D_{max}$1.38 Gy), Bladder ($D_{max}$3.07 Gy), Penile Bulb ($D_{max}$1.14 Gy). Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the dose change when transferring the plan and one-time transfer due to equipment inspection will be useful for efficient radiation therapy, but if the transferred treatment plans continue for several consecutive days, the treatment plan should be resumed.

  • Recently distributed video coding (DVC) is spotlighted for the environment which has restriction in computing resource at encoder. Wyner-Ziv (WZ) coding is a representative scheme of DVC. The WZ encoder independently encodes key frame and WZ frame respectively by conventional intra coding and channel code. WZ decoder generates side information from reconstructed two key frames (t-1, t+1) based on temporal correlation. The side information is regarded as a noisy version of original WZ frame. Virtual channel noise can be removed by channel decoding process. So the performance of WZ coding greatly depends on the performance of channel code. Among existing channel codes, Turbo code and LDPC code have the most powerful error correction capability. These channel codes use stochastically iterative decoding process. However the iterative decoding process is quite time-consuming, so complexity of WZ decoder is considerably increased. Analysis of the complexity of LPDCA with real video data shows that the portion of complexity of LDPCA decoding is higher than 60% in total WZ decoding complexity. Using the HDA (Hard Decision Aided) method proposed in channel code area, channel decoding complexity can be much reduced. But considerable RD performance loss is possible according to different thresholds and its proper value is different for each sequence. In this paper, we propose an adaptive HDA method which sets up a proper threshold according to sequence. The proposed method shows about 62% and 32% of time saving, respectively in LDPCA and WZ decoding process, while RD performance is not that decreased.
