Development of Evaluation Criteria For Game-style Courseware Based on HCI (HCI 이론을 적용한 게임형 학습 프로그램 평가 준거 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develope a criterion for evaluation on game-style courseware by the application of HCI theory. The HCI theory, which deals with principles or methods for developing systems people can use conveniently and pleasantly, has been applied to overall area of program development. And it also has been widely used to evaluate learning programs. However, there have been few studies on a game-style courseware evaluation on the basis of the HCI theory. Thus, it is necessary to apply the HCI theory to studies on the game-style courseware evaluation. This paper shows that evaluation criteria are developed on three viewpoint bases : usefulness, usability, and affect which are as elements in HCI. The evaluation criteria developed in this paper can be applied to a basis for evaluation on game-style coursewares.

  • 본 논문의 목적은 HCI 이론에 근거하여 교육용 웹 코스웨어 개발에 중요한 요소인 인간과 컴퓨터의 상호작용에 기반한 연구를 통해 HCI 기반의 효율적인 웹 코스웨어의 설계 방안을 마련하고자 한다. HCI가 최종적으로 달성하고자하는 목표는 해당 시스템을 사용하는 사람들에게 최적의 경험을 제공하는 것이며 시스템 개발에서 최적의 경험은 유용성(usefulness), 사용성(usability), 감성(affect)의 조건에 있다. 교육용 웹 코스웨어를 설계할 때 HCI 이론의 중요한 요소인 사용자 인터페이스를 고려하고 학습자와의 상호작용을 극대화시킬 수 있는 설계 지침을 제시하여 학습자들이 편리하고 즐겁게 학습에 임할 수 있는 웹 코스웨어 설계의 기초자료로서 도움이 될 수 있을 것이다.

And analyzes the game-type learning programs from these three points of view. The evaluation criteria developed in this study can be applied to a basis for evaluation on game-type learning programs, and the analysis will be able to be a useful guide to game programers as well as its users.

  • In recent decades, focuses on usability and emphases on user-centric design have become more prevalent in the field of software design. However, it is not always easy for engineers and computer scientists to think in the users' shoes. Human-computer interaction (HCI) is a field of study that focuses on creating technologies easier and more intuitive for the users. This paper is based on teaching HCI skills to undergraduate computer science students in a software application design course. Specifically, this paper employs: first, the HCI skills taught to the students; second, the tendencies and challenges of the students in creating user-centric applications; and lastly, suggestions based on our findings to promote HCI in developing user-friendly software. While more firm conclusions shall be reserved for more formal empirical studies, the findings in this paper still offer implications and suggestions for promoting user-centric approach for software designers and developers in the technology industry.

  • Field trip education is frequently used in a primary education in Korea. However, it fails to provide specific research activities or feedback for students and lacks educational implication. We propose a mission-based field trip education using mobile phone. In this paper, we explain our design process, experiment at the zoo, and discuss the future work.

  • We present a real-time graph drawing tool for mathematics education. We developed a sketch-based graph drawing interface that recognizes the schematic sketch of a graph. Our system generates figures displaying useful supplementary information such as auxiliary lines, abscissas, and ordinates. The resulting graphs are very similar to the graphs commonly found in textbooks. We also developed a graph retrieval system that makes rapid graph drawing feasible.

  • Usability heuristics("heuristics") are general principles for usability evaluation during user interface design. Our ultimate goal is to extend the practice of usability evaluation methods to a wider audience(e.g. user interface designers and engineers) than Human Computer Interaction(HCI) professionals. To this end, we explored the degree to which Jakob Nielsen's ten usability heuristics are understood by professors and students in design and computer engineering. None of the subjects received formal training in HCI, though some may have had an awareness of some HCI principles. The study identified easy-to-understand heuristics, examined the reasons for the ambiguities in others, and discovered differences between the responses of professors and students to the heuristics. In the course of the study, the subjects showed an increased tendency to think in terms of user-centric design. Furthermore, the findings in this study offer suggestions for improving these heuristics to resolve ambiguities and to extend their practice for user interface designers and engineers.

  • 기존의 CAVE 를 이용한 분자구조 visualization 혹은 교육 시스템에서는 CAVE 시스템의 특징을 반영하지 않은 desktop 방식의 상호작용(interaction) 방법과 조망(viewing) 방법을 제공했다. 이러한 기존의 방법들은 CAVE 시스템의 장점을 충분히 이용하지 못한 것이다. 우리는 사용자에게 CAVE 시스템의 장점을 잘 살릴 수 있는 일인칭 시점의 조망을 제공하는 분자구조 교육 시스템을 개발함으로써 사용자에게 좀더 교육적으로나 경험적으로 효과가 큰 분자구조 교육 시스템을 제안한다. 또한 간단한 실험을 통해서 우리가 제안한 시스템의 효과를 알아보았다.

  • 최근 들어 유치원과 초등학교에 로봇을 이용한 교육적 활용 연구가 시도되고 있다. 유비퀴터스 로봇 활용이 교사와 아동의 흥미 유발에 있어 매우 효과가 높은 것으로 나타나, 향후 유비쿼터스 로봇이 u-Learning 의 또 다른 매체로서의 가능성이 강조되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 초등학교 수업에서 교사 보조 역할을 통한 유비퀴터스 로봇의 활용 가능성을 보기 위해, 초등 학생 6 학년의 기대 역할을 갖는 프로토 타입의 로봇과 컨텐츠를 개발하여 활용하는 실험을 실시하였다. 프로토 타입 로봇은 국어, 영어, 음악 교과를 대상으로 주기적으로 컨텐츠를 다운로드 할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 아동의 얼굴과 이름을 저장하여 수업 운영 컨텐츠와 연동할 수 있다. 현장 실험을 통하여 아동이 유비쿼터스 로봇을 경험한 수업 시간의 횟수에 따라 로봇 외형과 수업 보조 서비스에 대한 선호도 차이를 알아봄으로써, 초등학교에서 유비퀴터스 로봇을 이용한 r-Learning에 있어서 일시적 신기효과가 아닌 지속적인 영향을 줄 수 있는 요인을 찾아보았다. 실험 결과, 지속적인 HRI 유지에 영향을 끼칠 수 있는 외형적 요인으로 로봇 얼굴과 로봇과 아동간 관계성을 지향하는 컨텐츠 개발이 필요함을 보였다.

  • When teaching mathematics, one of the most effective ways of analyzing the weakness of student is to look over the process of problem solving. Based on this observation, we propose a Tablet PC based feedback system for effective mathematics education. The effectiveness of our system is demonstrated with usability tests.
