Self-Assembly of Vanadium Borophosphate Cluster Anions: Synthesis and Structures of (NH4)(C2H10N2)5.5[Cu(C2H8N2)2]3[V2P2BO12]6·17H2O and (NH4)(C2H10N2)3.5[Cu(C2H8N2)2]5[V2P2BO12]6·18H2O

  • Two new copper vanadium borophosphate compounds, $(NH_4)(C_2H_{10}N_2)_{5.5}[Cu(C_2H_8N_2)_2]_3[V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6{\cdot}17H_2O,\;Cu-VBPO1\;and\;(NH_4)(C_2H_{10}N_2)_{3.5}[Cu(C_2H_8N_2)_2]_5[V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6{\cdot}18H_2O$, Cu-VBPO2 have been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. The structure of Cu-VBPO1 contains a layer anion, {$[Cu(C_2H_8N_2)_2]_3[V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6$}$^{12-}$, whereas Cu-VBPO2 has an open framework anion, {$[Cu(C_2H_8N_2)_2]_5[V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6$}$^{8-}$. Crystal Data: $(NH_4)(C_2H_{10}N_2)_{5.5}[Cu(C_2H_8N_2)_2]_3[V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6{\cdot}17H_2O$, monoclinic, space group I2/m (no. 12), $\alpha$ = 15.809(1) $\AA$, b = 31.107(2) $\AA$, c = 12.9343(8) $\AA$, $\beta$ = 104.325(1)$^{\circ}$, Z = 2; $(NH_4)(C_2H_{10}N_2)_{3.5}[Cu(C_2H_8N_2)_2]_5[V_2P_2BO_{12}]_6{\cdot}18H_2O$, tetragonal, space group $P4_2$/mnm (no.136), $\alpha$ = 26.832(1) $\AA$, c = 18.021(1) $\AA$, Z = 4.

The molecule has conformational features in common with other corticosteroids. Three molecules related by 3-fold symmetry are involved in hydrogen bonding, forming a layer of molecules perpendicular to the c-axis.

A RADIOGRAPHIC STUDY OF THE HYOID BONE POSITION IN MALOCCLUSION (설골위치에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to clarify the relationship of hyoid bone position to tongue position and mandible when malocclusion is categorized in the bilateral and in the vertical components. Five groups of samples (normal occlusion, unilateral and bilateral cross-bite, openbite, deep-bite) were selected for his investigation by utilizing the cephalograms. On the basis study, the following conclusions were obtained; 1. In the normal group. the mean hyoid position (H-M) was $9.83{\pm}4.27mm$. The mean distance of hyoid body to tongue dorsum (H-T) was $52.17{\pm}6.70mm$. The ratio of H-M/H-T was $18.59\%$. 2. In all malocclusion groups, the hyoid position (H-M) was found to be larger than that of the norm except the deep overbite group 3. The tongue dorsum position (H-T) was increased, compared to that of norm, in all malocclusion groups. 4. Hyoid position (H-M) was found to show high correlation to the ratio of H-M/H-T, H-T, PI-T (0.890, 0.699, 0.455). 5. The hyoid position (H-M) was found to show low correlation to the measurements of mandible, but among them the ODI was found to show conversely a little higher correlation against hyoid position (H-M).

Positive Charge of Arginine Residues on Histone H4 Tail Is Required for Maintenance of Mating Type in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

  • Transcriptional gene silencing is regulated by the chromatin structure, which is by various factors including histones. Saccharomyces cerevisiae contains transcriptionally silenced regions such as telomeric regions and hidden mating (HM) loci. The positively-charged amino acids on the histone H4 tail were reported to be critical for the telomeric silencing in yeast, by interacting with Dot1, a specific methyltransferase for the $79^{th}$ lysine on histone H3. However, Dot1 did not affect gene silencing within HM loci, but whether the positively-charged amino acids on the H4 tail affect HM silencing has not been defined. To elucidate the function of the H4 tail on HM silencing, we created several MATa-type yeast strains bearing the substitution of arginine with alanine or lysine on the histone H4 tail and checked the sensitivity of MATa-type yeast to alpha pheromone. The arginine point mutants substituted by alanine (R17A, R19A, and R23A) did not show sensitivity to alpha pheromone, but only two arginine mutants substituted by lysine (R17K and R19K) restored the sensitivity to alpha pheromone-like wild type. These data suggested that the basic property of arginine at $17^{th}$ and $19^{th}$ positions in the histone H4 tail is critical for maintaining HM silencing, but that of the $23^{rd}$ arginine is not. Our data implicated that the positive charge of two arginine residues on the histone H4 tail is required for HM silencing in a manner independent of Dot1.

Pharmacokinetics and Bioequivalence of Haloperidol Tablet by Liquid Chromatographic Mass Spectrometry with Electrospray Ionization

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the bioequivalence of two haloperidol 5 mg tablets, Myung In haloperidol (Myung In Pharm. Co., Ltd., test drug) and $Peridol^{R}$(Whanin Pharm. Co., Ltd., reference drug), and also to estimate the pharmacokinetic parameters of haloperidol in Korean volunteers. The bioavailability and pharmacokinetics of haloperidol tablets were examined on 24 healthy volunteers who received a single oral dose of each preparation in the fasting state in a randomized balanced 2 way crossover design. After an oral dosing, blood samples were collected for a period of 60 h. Plasma concentrations of haloperidol were determined using a liquid chromatographic electrospray mass spectrometric (LC-MS) method. The pharmacokinetic parameters were calculated with noncompartmental pharmacokinetic analysis. The geometric means of $AUC_{0-60h} and C_{max}$ between test and reference formulations were $17.21\pm8.26 ng\cdot/mL vs 17.31\pm13.24 ng\cdot/mL and 0.87\pm0.74 ng/mL vs 0.85\pm0.62 ng/mL$. respectively. The $90\%$ confidence intervals of mean difference of logarithmic transformed $AUC_{0-60h} and C_{max} were log0.9677{\sim}log1.1201 and log0.8208{\sim}log1.1981$, respectively. It shows that the bioavailability of test drug is equivalent with that of reference drug. The geometric means of other pharmacokinetic parameters ($AUC_{inf}. t_{1/2}, V_{d}/F, and CL/F$) between test drug and reference drug were $21.75\pm8.50 ng{\cdot}h/mL vs 21.77\pm15.63 ng{\cdot}h/mL, 29.87\pm8.25 h vs 29.60\pm7.56 h, 11.51\pm5.45 L vs 12.90\pm6.12 L and 0.26\pm0.09 L/h vs 0.31\pm0.17 L/h$, respectively. These observations indicate that the two formulation for haloperidol was bioequivalent and, thus, may be clinically interchangeable.

  • The complex [Ni(L)](BDC)·4H₂O (1) (L = 3,14-dimethyl-2,6,13,17-tetraazatricyclo[16,4,O/sup 1.18/,O/sup 7.12/] docosane; BDC = 1,3-benzenedicarboxylate) has been synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. Compound 1 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pcnb, with a = 8.764(2) , b = 17.687(2) , c = 19.475(1) , V = 3018.7(8) ³, Z = 4, R₁, (wR₂) for 2148 observed reflections of [1>2σ(I) was 0.0822 (0.2236). Compound 1 is interconnected to give a three-dimensional network through weak hydrogen-bonding interactions.

Genetic variation of the endangered species Halenia coreana (Gentianaceae)

  • Halenia coreana is an endangered, endemic species that is distributed in only a few locations in Korea, such as Mts. Hwaaksan and Daeamsan. It has been recently segregated from H. corniculata, broadly distributed in cold temperate regions that include northern Japan, the Russian Far East, northeastern China, Mongolia, and eastern Europe, where population sizes are usually large. To examine the genetic diversity of H. coreana and evaluate the level of genetic differentiation of the species compared with that of H. corniculata, we surveyed 183 candidate simple sequence repeats (SSR) motif markers for H. coreana and H. corniculata from sequence data of amplified fragments of a specific length in the genome. A total of 17 genomic-SSR markers were selected to examine the levels of genetic diversity and differentiation using 17 samples of H. coreana and 60 samples of three populations of H. corniculata. The results here suggest that the genetic diversity of H. coreana is very low with a high frequency of inbreeding within its population. We found that H. coreana is genetically differentiated from H. corniculata, supporting the recognition of the geographically isolated H. coreana as a distinct species.
