Residual Stress Measurement in the Hard Turned SKD Tool Steel

  • Most manufacturing processes such as welding, cutting and molding generate residual stresses on the surface of manufactured parts. Tensile residual stress is harmful to the surface integrity, which results in reduced fatigue life and causes other structural failures when the service stresses are superimposed on the residual stresses. In the research, the residual stresses of the high hardness steel (over $H_{RC}60$) workpiece (SKD11) machined by the hard turning were measured using Hole-drilling Method. Residual stress in the surface of hard turned workpiece was mainly appeared to be compressive stress.

Single-Port Thoracic Surgery: A New Direction

  • Single-port video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) has slowly established itself as an alternate surgical approach for the treatment of an increasingly wide range of thoracic conditions. The potential benefits of fewer surgical incisions, better cosmesis, and less postoperative pain and paraesthesia have led to the technique's popularity worldwide. The limited single small incision through which the surgeon has to operate poses challenges that are slowly being addressed by improvements in instrument design. Of note, instruments and video-camera systems that are narrower and angulated have made single-port VATS major lung resection easier to perform and learn. In the future, we may see the development of subcostal or embryonic natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery access, evolution in anaesthesia strategies, and cross-discipline imaging-assisted lesion localization for single-port VATS procedures.

A Study on the characteristics of vibration induced by Subway operation (지하철 운행에 따른 진동특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper the characteristics of vibration induced by subway trains running on track is discussed. The quantitative prediction of the vibration level and the countermeasure for reduction of necessary, is of importance for the better environment. It was made the constructed Bundang line as first step with the modified Young-Dan type to basis on the Japanese Young-Dan type. In this paper it was measured and analyzed to two region (①Susuh-Bokjung, ②Chorim-Suhyun region) of this, at present operational Bundang line when averaging velocity of train is 60(㎞/h). As the response characteristics of frequency induced by subway operation, it was confirmed that frequency band of neighborhood of 30∼80Hz in generally dominant. Also to assess the quantitative vibration as response level to be measured for each point of two region in subway operation, the vibrational response level was measured at the state to be not subway operation. And the level was approximately 1/5∼1/10 level comparing to subway operation.

Antimutagenic Effect of Rresveratrol on Trip P-1 in Salmonella typhimurium TA98 (Trp P-1 변이원성에 대한 Resveratrol의 항돌연변이 효과)

  • The antimutagenic activity of resveratrol on the mutagenicity induced by Trp P-1 (3-amino-1,4-dime-thyl-5H-pyrido{4,3-b}indole) was studied using the Ames test with Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and 100. Trp P-1 showed strong mutagenecity in S. typhimurium TA98, but was higly decreased mutagenecity in S. typhimurium TA100. This result suggests that the mutagenecity of Trp P-1 can be mainly induced by the DNA lesions causing frame shift. Resveratrol itself did not show antibacterial effect upon 300 $\mu\textrm{g}$/assay. Resveratrol showed the strongest inhibitory effect with dose dependent manner on the mutagenicity induced by Trp P-1. The inhibition rates of resveratrol at concentration of 2, 10, 25, 50, 100, 300 $\mu\textrm{g}$/assay were 13%, 37%, 52%, 65%, 81%, 89%, respectively.

  • Fe nanopowders were successfully synthesized by plasma arc discharge (PAD) process using Fe rod. The influence of chamber pressure on the microstructure was investigated by means of X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The prepared particles had nearly spherical shapes and consisted of metallic cores (a-Fe) and oxide shells (Fe$_{3}$O$_{4}$), The powder size increased with increasing chamber pressure due to the higher dissolution and ejection rate of H$_2$ and gas density in the molten metal.

  • Recently, smart lighting systems are the combination between sensors and lights. These systems turn on/off and adjust the brightness of lights based on the motion of object and the brightness of environment. These systems are often applied in places such as buildings, rooms, garages and parking lot. However, these lighting systems are controlled by lighting sensors, motion sensors based on illumination environment and motion detection. In this paper, we propose an automatic lighting control system using one single camera for buildings, rooms and garages. The proposed system is one integration the results of digital image processing as motion detection, hand gesture detection to control and dim the lighting system. The experimental results showed that the proposed system work very well and could consider to apply for automatic lighting spaces.

  • A novel penicillin G acylase (PGA)-producing bacterial strain was isolated from soil by using the Serratia marcescens overlay technique. The isolated strain was identified as Leclercia adecarboxylata based on the analyses of the biochemical characteristics (API 20E). the cellular fatty acid profile. and the 16S rDNA sequences. The gene encoding the PGA (pac gene) was cloned into the pHSG399 vector and the recombinant E. coliHB101 clones harboring the pac gene were isolated on agar plates containing phenylacetyl-L -leucine and penicillin G.   • An absorption heat pump cycle has been modeled and simulated to analyze the system performance of water-cooled, series-flow, double-effect absorption heat pump, which can be applied to a direct gas fired cooling system with the medium range of cooling capacity (15RT level). Effect of absorption cooling system parameters, such as concentration difference, inlet temperature of cooling water, 1st generator temperature, leaving temperature differences of condenser and evaporator and efficiency of solution heat exchanger, has been investigated in the view of system cooling performance.

  • The culture conditions of chinese cabbage medium for the growth of Bacillus lentimorbus G-74, having antifungal activities, were optimized. The optimal growth of B. lentimorbus G-74 was obtained when the concentration of chinese cabbage extract was 50%(v/v). The optimum temperature and pH for the cell growth of B. lentimorbus G-74 were $35^{\circ}C$ and 7.0, respectively.

  • Lead titanate thin films were deposited on titanium substrates by a chemical vapour deposition(CVD) process involving the application of vapour mixtures of Pb, ethyl titanate( Ti($C_2H_5O_4$)), and oxygen. The lead titanate having a stoichiometric composition has a dc conductivity of $3.2{\times}10^{-12}{\Omega}^{-1}{\cdot}cm^{-1}$ at room temperature. The nonsaturating loops observed in present investigation may be attributed to the $TiO_2$ and TiO layers between the conductive substrate and the $PbTiO_3$ ferroelectric film. The ferroelectric properties of the stoichiometric $PbTiO_3$ film included a remanent polarization of 14.1 ${\mu}C/cm^2$ and a coercive field of 20.16 kV/cm.
