Characteristic Polynomials of 90/150 CA <10 ⋯ 0> (90/150 CA <10 ⋯ 0>의 특성다항식)

  • 90/150 CA which are used as key generators of the cipher system have more randomness than LFSRs, but synthesis methods of 90/150 CA are difficult. Therefore, 90/150 CA synthesis methods have been studied by many researchers. In order to synthesize a suitable CA, the analysis of the characteristic polynomial of 90/150 CA should be preceded. In general, the characteristic of polynomial ${\Delta}_n$ of n cell 90/150 CA is obtained by using ${\Delta}_{n-1}$ and ${\Delta}_{n-2}$. Choi et al. analyzed $H_{2^n}(x)$ and $H_{2^n-1}(x)$, where $H_k(x)$ is the characteristic polynomial of k cell 90/150 CA with state transition rule <$10{\cdots}0$>. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to obtain $H_n(x)$ from $H_{n-1}(x)$ and an efficient algorithm to obtain $H_{2^n+i}(x)$ and $H_{2^n-i}(x)$ ($1{\leq}i{\leq}2^{n-1}$) from $H_{2^n}(x)$ by using this method.

Human Cytomegalovirus Replication and $Ca^{2+}$ Response in Human Cell Lines of Neuronal Origin (신경세포에서의 Human Cytomegalovirus 증식과 이에 따른 세포내 유리칼슘 농도 변화)

  • Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) replication and $Ca^{2+}$ response in human cell lines of neuronal origin were investigated. SK-N-SH (neuroblastoma cells) and A172 cells (glioblastoma cells) were used. SK-N-SH cells were permissive for HCMV multiplication with a delay of one day compared to virus multiplication in human embryo lung (HEL) cells. The delay of HCMV multiplication in SK-N-SH cells appeared to be correlated with a delay in the $Ca^{2+}$ response. The cytoplasmic free $Ca^{2+}$ concentration ($[Ca^{2+}]_i$) began to increase at 12 h p.i. in HCMV-infected SK-N-SH cells, while $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ increase in HCMV-infected HEL cells was observed as early as 3 h p.i. On the whole, the level of the increase in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ in SK-N-SH cells was about 30% of that in HEL cells. On the other hand, in A172 cells infected with HCMV, neither production of infectious virus nor detectable increase in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ was observed. Treatment with TPA of HCMV-infected SK-N-SH cells resulted in $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ increase at 6 h p.i. The stimulatory effect of TPA on HCMV- induced $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ increase continued until 12 h p.i., but TPA failed to stimulate the $Ca^{2+}$ response in SK-N-SH cells at 24 h p.i., suggesting that the effect of TPA had disappeared in SK-N-SH cells at that time point. In conclusion, SK-N-SH cells are permissive for HCMV replication and the delay in $Ca^{2+}$ response may be a consequence of the lower responsiveness of SK-N-SH cells than HEL cells to HCMV infection.

  • N,N-dimethyl-D-erythro-sphingosine (DMS) is an N-methyl derivative of sphingosine and an inhibitor of protein kinase C (PKC) and sphingosine kinase (SK). In the present study, we examined the effects of DMS on intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ concentration, pH, and glutamate uptake in human 1321N1 astrocytes. DMS increased intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ concentration and cytosolic pH in a concentration-dependent manner. Pretreatment of the cells with the $G_{i/o}$ protein inhibitor PTX and the PLC inhibitor U73122 had no obvious effect. However, removal of extracellular $Ca^{2+}$ with the $Ca^{2+}$ chelator EGTA or depletion of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ stores with thapsigargin impeded the DMS-induced increase of intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ concentration. Pretreatment of cells with $NH_4Cl$ or monensin reduced the DMS-induced $Ca^{2+}$ increase. However, inhibition of the DMS-induced $Ca^{2+}$ increase with BAPTA did not influence the DMS-induced pH increase. DMS also inhibited glutamate uptake by the 1321N1 astrocytes in a concentration-dependent manner. It also increased intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ and pH in PC12 neuronal cells. Our observations on the effects of DMS on 1321N1 astrocytes and PC12 neuronal cells point to a physiological role of DMS in the brain.

Ionic Characteristics of the Ground Water for Hydroponics in Kyeongnam Area (경남지역 양액재배용 지하수의 이온 분포특성)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the quality of ground water for hydroponics in Kyeongnam area in 1995. Water samples were collected and analyzed from 77 wells in green houses throughout Kyeongnam area. The values of several components in well water were as follows ; 7.4 in pH, 0.46dS/m in EC, 0.3mg/L in N $H_{4}$-N, 25.4mg/L in $Ca^{2+}$, 42.6mg/L in C $l^{[-10]}$ and 72.5mg/L in S $O_{4}$$^{2-}$. The pH value showed high positive significance of correlationships with $Ca^{2+}$ and EC. Also, the EC value showed high positive significance with N $a^{+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, S $O_{4}$$^{2-}$, $Mg^{2+}$ and C $l^{[-10]}$ .

$Ca^{2+}$ Effect on Conversion of Exogenous 1-Aminocyclopropane-1-Carboxylic Acid to Ethylene in Vigna radiata Protoplasts

  • The possibility that 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC)-uptake may be dependent on the H+-gradient established across the plsma membrane was tested in protoplasts isolated from 2.5 day old mungbean hypocotyls. The ACC-induced ethylene production was inhibited when the H+-gradient was collapsed by the treatment with carbonycyamide-p-trifluro-methoxy-phenylhydrazone (FCCP). Moreover, the treatment with o-vanadate, a specific inhibitor of plasma membrane H+-ATPase, caused the inhibition of ethylene production. The ACC-induced ethylene production was inhibited by the treatemnt with verapamil (Ca2+-channel blocker), or ethylene glycol-bis($\beta$-aminoethyl ether) N, N, N', N'-tetraacetic acid (EGTA) (Ca2+-chelator). In contrast, the ehtylene production was stimulated by the application of A23187 (Ca2+ ionophore). The inhibitory effect of EGTA in the ethylene producton was magnified in the presence of A23187. From these results, we suggest that the external Ca2+ influx to the cytosol resulted in the stimulatin of ACC oxidase activity after ACC-uptake resulting from a H+-gradient across the plasma membrane.

Studies on Tip-burn of Chinese Cabbage by Ammonium Toxicity (암모니움 Toxicity에 의(依)한 배추의 Tip-burn에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • The effect of N forms ($NO_3{^-}-N$, $NH_4{^+}-N$) and concentrations (4, 8, $16meq/{\ell}$) which were changed at head formation stage on the tip-burn incidence of chinese cabbage was studied under the three levels (0, 8, 16 meq/l) of Ca. All of the plants grown on $NH_4{^+}-N$ showed the symptoms of tip-burn and low yields regardless of Ca levels. Roots of plants grown on $NH_4{^+}-N$ were severely damaged. The pH of the leachate from $NH_4{^+}-N$ pot was decreased to below pH 5. Plants which had been grown on $NH_4{^+}-N$ before the head formation stage, but changed to $NO_3{^-}-N$ were recovered from abnormal growth. But, the reverse showed the tip-burn symptoms. $NH_4{^+}-N$ treatments increased the T-N contents, but lowered K and Ca contents of inner leafblades. Icreased applications of Ca did not affect the T-N and K contents of the inner leafblades. $NH_4{^+}-N$ suppressed Ca translocation into the inner leaves from outer leaves after the head formation stage, but $NO_3{^-}-N$ accelarated it. Ca contents were much lower in leaves showing tip-burn symptoms than in healthy leaves. Internal rot which is a tip-burn symptom occuring after head formation were noted in plants applied with high concentration of $NO_3{^-}-N$ both before and after the head formation stage. Ca contents correlated well with the rates of Ca application, but there was no correlation between ca conents and internal rot incidence. Chinese cabbage tip-burn is not caused by Ca deficiency, as is commonly believed, but rather by the water stress (95% water contents in $NO_3{^-}$-fed plants, 91% in $NH_4{^+}$-fed plants) resulting from root damage caused by ammonium toxicity. Internal rot is also caused by excess applications of nitrogen, and is unaffected by calcium levels.

  • Field microplot(D 20cm, L 85cm) experiment filled with Bonryang sandy loam soil(Typic Udifluvents) was conducted to obtain quantitative information on the change of soil pH under different soil moisture regime and ladino clover cultivation, and the movement of applied nutrient under the rainfed bare soil condition. Slaked lime increased soil pH of the applied layer. $NH_4-N$ evolved from urea hydrolysis was more effective in raising the subsoil pH rather than the exchangeable Mg and Ca. Under the different soil miosture condition downward movement of Cl and $NO_3-N$ lowered subsoil pH during the middle of ladino clover growth. Leaching of CI and $NO_3-N$ down to the out of the soil microplot and increasing movement of Ca and Mg into the subsoil produced. a slight increase of subsoil pH during the late crop growth. The mean downward movement of applied nutrient 5.5 months after field installation of microplot in the bare soil under rainfed condition(1207mm) was in the order : Cl= more than 80.0>Inorganic nitrogen= 75.8>K= 67.3>Mg=62.7>Ca=18.1>P=2.3cm respectively.

  • Chemical properties of soil(N, P, K, Ca, Na, Mg, CEC, and pH) were studied after annual additions of $NH_4NO_3$(336kg/ha N), treble superphosphate(112kg/ha P), and KCl(224kg/ha K) fertilizers in a willow(Salix spp.) bioenergy plantation. Soil samples were collected from November through December 1992 from previously established the fertilized and non-fertilized willow plantation at Tully, New York, U.S.A. in 1987. Total fertilizer additions from 1987 through 1991 were 1,680kg/ha N and 560kg/ha P and 1.120kg/ha K. Fertilization with N, P, and K resulted in no difference in total soil N content between the fertilized and non-fertilized plots, increased soil P and K, decreased base cations ($Ca^{2+}$ and $Mg^{2+}$) and soil pH, and increased soil pH with soil depth. Strong positive correlations of soil carbon to soil N, Ca, Mg, and CEC were noted. Soil C/N ratio in the study plots ranged from 9.6 to 11.2 for all treatment combinations. Significant differences in soil P, K, Ca, and pH between the fertilized and non-fertilized plots indicate that fertilization had changed chemical properties of soil in this fertilizer trial.

  • In this study, effects of oxide additives on mechanical properties and microstructure of A1N and A1N polytype ceramics were investigated. Fine A1N powder was synthesized by nitriding alumiuim hydroxide prepared from Al-isopropoxide, at 1350$^{\circ}C$ for 10h in N2 atmosphere. By adding 3w/o Y2O3, 0.56w/o CaO, and 10w/o SiO2 to AlN powder, AlN and AlN polytype ceramics were prepared by hot-pressing under the pressure of 30 MPa at 1800$^{\circ}C$ for 1h. AlN ceramics with no additives formed considerable amount of AlON phase, while AlN ceramics doped with Y2O3 or CaO decreased AlON phase and formed Y-Al or Ca-Al oxide compound. AlN+10w/o SiO2(+3w/o Y2O3) composition produced AlON and AlN polytype compound having 21R as a major phase. Room temperature flexural strength of AlN ceramics with no additive was 246MPa, and room temperature flexural strength and critical temperature difference by thermal shock(ΔTc) of AlN ceramics dooped with Y2O3 or CaO were 532MPa/340$^{\circ}C$ and 423MPa/300$^{\circ}C$, respectively. Y2O3 and CaO used as sintering agent played roles of densification and oxygen removal of AlN ceramics, and affected grain growth/grain morphologies of AlN ceramics.

  • This study was carried out to determine how the water soluble, the available $P_2O_5$ and urea-N would change in the course of time, when the mixtures of calcium superphosphate and urea with lime for fertilizer which occurred in Korea and largely contained calcium carbonate were made. Three kinds of materials, i. e., calcium superphosphate, urea and lime for fertilizer were used in this study. Three kinds of mixed fertilizer, i. e., A, B and C were made up by mixing these materials to satisfy the following formula. $$1)\;Ca(H_2PO_4)_2+CaCO_3+CO(NH_2)_2{\rightarrow}$$$$Ca_2H_2(PO_4)+H_2CO_3+NH_3$$ $$2)\;Ca(H_2PO_4)_2+CaCO_3+CO(NH_2)_2{\rightarrow}$$$$Ca_3(PO_4)_2+H_2CO_3+NH_3$$ $$3)\;Ca(H_2PO_4)_2+CaCO_3+CO(NH_2)_2{\rightarrow}$$$$Ca_3(PO_4)_2+H_2CO_3+CaCO_3+NH_3$$ A,B and C were placed in desiccators respectively a six month period. During the time of storage, the water soluble, the available phosphoric acid and urea-N were measured once a month, seven times with the control measurement. The results may be summarized as follows. 1. None of A, B and C showed any change in the urea-N with the lapse of time. This fact indicated that the combination of calcium superphosphate and urea with lime for fertilizer was not unfavourable. 2. A, B and C decreased in the amount of water soluble $P_2O_5$ with the passage of time. This fact indicated that the mixing of calcium superphosphate and urea with lime for fertilizer was unfeasible. 3. The available $P_2O_5$ in any of A,B and C did not undergo a change as time went by. This fact suggested that the combination of calcium superphate and urea with lime for fertilizer was favourable.
