Changes of pH, acidity, pretense activity and microorganism on Korean traditional seasonings using soy sauce (T1), red pepper paste (T2) and soybean paste (T3) were investigated during storage at $1{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for 21 days. The pH and pretense activity of soybean paste were significantly (p<0.05) higher compared to those for soy sauce and red pepper paste during storage. The acidity of red pepper paste were significantly (p<0.05) higher compared to those for soy sauce and soybean paste at 1, 7 and 14 days of storage. The total plate counts and Lactobacilli spp. of soy sauce were significantly (p<0.05) lower compared to those for soybean paste and red pepper paste during storage. The Escherichia coli of red pepper paste and soybean paste were not detected during storage.

The purpose of this study was to examine the factors associated with adolescents' attitude toward volunteer activities. Analyses of data provided by 450 adolescents attending secondary schools in Gyeongnam Province suggested the following results. First, adolescents' attitude toward volunteer activities differed by gender, religion, and academic grades. Adolescents who were girls, who had religions, and whose academic grades were higher showed higher levels of positive attitude toward volunteer activities than their counterparts who were boys, who did not have religion and whose academic standing was lower. Second, adolescents' attitude toward volunteer activities significantly differed by the family factor. To be specific, parental attention, parental support and family's participation in volunteer work made differences to the adolescents' attitude toward volunteer activities. Third, the adolescents took significantly different attitudes toward voluntary activities according to the school factor. Significant differences were found according to attention and support from teachers. The students whose teachers had more interest in voluntary service and whose teachers offered more aid took a more positive attitude to voluntary service. Forth, some of the personal, family, and school factors were associated with adolescents' attitude toward volunteer activities. Among the personal factors, gender, religion, academic standing, and morality were associated with dolescents' attitude toward volunteer activities. Those who were girls, who were religious, whose academic standing was higher, and who were more moral took a more positive attitude toward volunteer activities. Among family and school factors, parental attention/support and attention and support from teachers affected the voluntary service attitude of the adolescents. The students whose parents had more interest and gave more support and whose teachers showed more interest and offered more support took a more positive attitude toward volunteer activities. Therefore parental attention and support were identified as the variable to make the best prediction of the adolescents' positive attitude toward volunteer activities.

The survey on the occurrence and distribution of barley stripe disease was conducted in the farmer's field of 19 gun (county) throughout Yeongmm area in May of 1982, in order to obtain a basic information on the breeding of resistant varieties, and for control of the disease. The percent of infected culms of barley stripe disease in Gyeongnam province (Southern Yeongnam) was higher $(13.7\%)$ them in Gyeong-bug $(6.9\%)$, northern Yeongnam, and especially, Ham-an, Milyang, Eui-chang and Weol-seong were severly occurred. The cultivar of Millyang 6 was slightly infected while the cultivars Olbori and Oweolbori were severely infected by the disease. Among soil conditions, the barley plant grown in the loam, clay and clay loam texture which have more availble moisture, and that of the plant cultivated in the poorly drained soils were shown to have severe infection. The barley plant grown in the soils in local valley $(18.8\%)$ where is frequently over saturated with water showed the more infection the barley plant grown in plains $(9.5\%)$. Generally, the poorer the soil drainage the more severeinfection occurred. Among cultivation conditions, the earlier the sowing dates of the barley, the less the percent of infected culms was observed. The heavier or lighter application of N fertilizer than the optimum to barley plant seemed to cause more infection.
Rhizopus soft rot caused by Rhizopus stolonifer occurred on strawberry (Fragaria ${\times}$ ananassa) in the plastic boxes in Jinju City Wholesale Market of Agricultural Products at Gyeongnam province in Korea on April 2008. The infected fruits were rapidly softened, water soaked and finally rotted. The symptoms were mainly occurred through wounds at harvest time. The colony color was white, cottony to brownish black after fully matured and numerous sporangiospores were formed on sporangia. The optimum growth temperature of the fungus was $30^{\circ}C$ on potato dextrose agar. Sporangia were globose or hemispheric shape of white color at initial stage and gradually changed with black color of $82{\sim}195{\mu}m$ in size. Sporangiophores were $12{\sim}25{\mu}m$ in width. Columella were hemispheric in shape, and $70{\sim}92{\mu}m$ in size. Sporangiospores were irregular round or oval in shape, brownish-black in color and $9{\sim}21\;{\times}\;7{\sim}8{\mu}m$ in size. This fungus formed stolones and rhizoid on PDA. On the basis of symptom, mycological characteristics and pathogenicity of the fungus, the causal fungus was identified as Rhizopus stolonifer (Ehrenb.) Vuill.
Symptoms similar to anthracnose were observed on Amaranthus mangostanus in Sancheon-gun, Gyeongnam province, where the plants were autogenously formed community. The symptoms were appeared in stem and spread, eventually whole plants died. Mycelial colony of the isolate was whitish gray to dark gray on potato dextrose agar. Conidia were single celled, colorless, cylindrical and measured as $10.5{\sim}21.7{\times}3.8{\sim}6.0{\mu}m$. Appressoria were dark brown, ovate to obovate and sized as $5.6{\sim}13.7{\times}4.6{\sim}11.4{\mu}m$. Perithecia were brown to black in color and shaped as globose to obpyriform and sized as $79.7{\sim}286.7{\mu}m$. Asci had eight ascospores and sized as $47.7{\sim}89.7{\times}8.1{\sim}13.3{\mu}m$. Ascospores were slightly curved at the center cylindrical, fusiform and measured $9.3{\sim}20.3{\times}4.6{\sim}6.3{\mu}m$. Optimum temperature for growth was $30^{\circ}C$. On the basis of morphological characteristics and pathogenicity test to host plants, the fungus was identified as Glomerella cingulata. This is the first report on the Anthracnose of Amaranthus mangostanus caused by Glomerella cingulata in Korea.
Total 99 strains of Campylobacter spp. were isolated from 117 cases of duck's fecal samples. Among 99 strains of Campylobacter spp. isolates, 93 strains (93.9%) were C. jejuni and 6 strains (6.1%) were C. coli. Prevalence of virulence and GBS associated genes of 72 C. jejuni isolates was determined by m-PCR. Among the 10 kinds of virulence associated genes, cadF, dnaJ, flaA and ceuE genes were detected in all of C. jejuni isolates from ducks, racR, pldA, iamA, ciaB, virB11 and docC genes were 87.5%, 84.7%, 77.8%, 48.6%, 13.9% and 11.1%, respectively. Antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed on 72 C. jejuni isolates. The rate of resistance were 62.5% for oxytetracycline, 55.6% for kanamycin, 54.2% for enrofloxacin, 50% for ciprofloxacin, 37.5% for tetracycline and nalidixic acid, 18.1% for ampicillin, 15.3% for streptomycin, and 6.9% for ofloxacin. All isolates were susceptible to erythromycin. The adherence (intracellular and extracellular bacteria) abilities of the 20 isolates to INT-407 cells were between $4.21{\pm}1.27{\times}10^4$ CFU/well and $1.053{\pm}0.451{\times}10^6$ CFU/well from the isolates of cj-55 and cj-52, respectively, and that can be expressed as 0.1033% to 5.2655% to the infecting inoculum. The invasion (intracellular bacteria) abilities of the 20 isolates to INT-407 were between $1.00{\pm}1.73{\times}10^3$ CFU/well and $8.47{\pm}5.16{\times}10^4$ CFU/well from the isolates of cj-13 and cj-47, respectively, and that can be expressed as 0.0050% to 0.4235% to the infecting inoculums. The average CFU/well of 20 campylobacters isolated from ducks for adherence to and invasion were $2.646{\pm}2.886{\times}10^5$ and $3.03{\pm}2.7{\times}10^4$ respectively, and that was $1.3230{\pm}1.2139%$ and $0.1516{\pm}0.1343%$ of the starting viable inoculum. There was considerable correlation ($R^2$=0.627) between the adherence and invasion ability of C. jejuni isolates for INT-407 cell.
A total of 120 pigs (Berkshire) were used to investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with artificial culture medium of wild ginseng (CWG) on the physico-chemical characteristics of pork About $60{\pm}3kg$ pigs were randomly assigned to 4 pens based on sex and diet (C: commercial diet feed or T: commercial diet+1 L CWG per day for 70 days). Pigs were slaughtered at approximately 110 kg live weight, and proximate composition and physico-chemical characteristics were measured in pork loin. The moisture content, hardness and chewiness of pork were higher in gilt fed CWG than in gilt fed the control diet, but the water-holding capacity of pork and $L^*$ values of fat color were lower. The shear force and $a^*$ values of pork were higher in barrow fed CWG than in harrow fed the control diet. The crude fat content, hardness, cohesiveness, chewiness of pork and $a^*\;and\;b^*$ values of fat color were lower in barrow than in gilt, but the pH was higher. These results imply that the proximate composition and physico-chemical characteristics of pork could be affected by dietary supplementation with CWG and the sex of the pig, while the texture properties and at values of pork may be improved with dietary CWG.

The EAA (essential amino acid) content was lower in pigs fed diets containing CMWG than that of the control groups, whereas the SAA (amino acid with sulfide) and FRAA (fragrant amino acid) contents were higher. The EAA and FAA (amino acid in relation to flavor) contents were lower for harrow than for gilt, however the SAAA (amino acid in relation to saccarinity), SAA and FRAA the contents were higher. Regarding the sensory evaluation of fresh meat, the color of gilt pork increased with diets containing CMWG relative to the control group. Drip loss and the marbling score for pigs fed with diets containing CMWG were higher in barrow than in gilt. The flavor and overall acceptability of cooked meat from the control group was higher for barrow than for silt.
Infestation of adults and pupae of sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci, on paprika (Capsicum annuum var. angulosum) grown in greenhouses in Jinju, Gyeongnam province during 2014was determined by counts of the number of target stage of B. tabaci per leaflet. Binomial sampling plans were developed based on the relationship between the mean density per leaflet (m) and the proportion of leaflets infested with less than T whiteflies ($P_T$), according to the empirical model $(({\ln}(m)={\alpha}+{\beta}({\ln}(-{\ln}(1-P_T))))$. T was defined as the tally threshold, and set to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (adults) and 1, 3, 5, 7 (pupae) per leaflet in this study. Increasing the sample size, regardless of tally threshold, had little effect on the precision of the binomial sampling plan. Based on the precision of the model, T = 1 was chosen as the best tally threshold for estimating densities of B. tabaci adults and T = 3 was best tally threshold in B. tabaci pupae. Using the results obtained in the greenhouse, a simulated validation of the developed sampling plan by RVSP (Resampling Validation for Sampling Plan) demonstrated the plan's validity. Above all, the binomial model with T = 1 and T = 3 provided reliable predictions of the mean densities of B. tabaci adults and pupae on greenhouse paprika.
This study was carried out to apply some basic physical and chemical treatment options including Fenton's oxidation, and to evaluate the performances and the characteristics of organic and nitrogen removal using lab-scale biological treatment system such as complete-mixing activated sludge and sequencing batch reactor(SBR) processes for the treatment of leachate from a municipal waste landfill in Gyeongnam province. The results were as follows: Chemical coagulation experiments using aluminium sulfate, ferrous sulfate and ferric chloride resulted in leachate CO $D_{Cr}$ removal of 32%, 23% and 21 % with optimum reaction dose ranges of 10,000~15,000 mg/$\ell$, 1,000 mg/$\ell$ and 500~2,000 mg/$\ell$, respectively. Fenton's oxidation required the optimum conditions including pH 3.5, 6 hours of reaction time, and hydrogen peroxide and ferrous sulfate concentrations of 2,000 ~ 3,000 mg/$\ell$ each with 1:1 weight ratio to remove more than 50% of COD in the leachate containing CO $D_{Cr}$ between 2,000 ~ 3,000 mg/$\ell$. Air-stripping achieved to remove more than 97% of N $H_3$-N in the leachate in spite of requiring high cost of chemicals and extensive stripping time, and, however, zeolite treatment removing 94% of N $H_3$-N showed high selectivity to N $H^{+}$ ion and much faster removal rate than air-stripping. The result from lab-scale experiment using a complete-mixing activated sludge process showed that biological treatability tended to increase more or less as HRT increased or F/M ratio decreased, and, however, COD removal efficiency was very poor by showing only 36% at HRT of 29 days. While COD removal was achieved more during Fenton's oxidation as compared to alum treatment for the landfill leachate, the ratio of BOD/COD after Fenton's oxidation considerably increased, and the consecutive activated sludge process significantly reduced organic strength to remove 50% of CO $D_{Cr}$ and 95% of BO $D_{5}$ . The SBR process was generally more capable of removing organics and nitrogen in the leachate than complete-mixing activated sludge process to achieve 74% removal of influent CO $D_{Cr}$ , 98% of BO $D_{5}$ and especially 99% of N $H_3$-N. However, organic removal rates of the SBR processes pre-treated with air-stripping and with zeolite were not much different with those without pre-treatment, and the SBR process treated with powdered activated carbon showed a little higher rate of CO $D_{Cr}$ removal than the process without any treatment. In conclusion, the biological treatment process using SBR proved to be the most applicable for the treatment of organic contents and nitrogen simultaneously and effectively in the landfill leachate.e.
