  • Pine wilt disease (PWD) in Gyeonggi province was first detected in Gwangju in 2007, and ever since has caused extensive damage. Insect vector and host tree in Gyeonggi province are Monochamus saltuarius and Pinus koraiensis, respectively, which are different from the southern region that consist of Monochamus alternatus and Pinus densiflora. Consequently, spread and mortality characteristics may be different, but our understanding is limited. In this research, we utilized the spatial data of newly infected trees in Gyeonggi province from 2008 to 2015 to analyze how it is related to various environmental and human factors, such as elevation, forest type, and road network. We also analyzed the minimum distance from newly infected tree to last year's closest infected tree to examine the dispersal characteristics based on new outbreak locations. Annual number of newly infected trees rapidly increased from 2008 to 2013, which then stabilized. Number of administrative districts with infected trees was 5 in 2012, 11 in 2013, and 15 in 2014. Most of the infected trees was Pinus koraiensis, with its proportion close to 90% throughout the survey period. Mean distance to newly infected trees dramatically decreased over time, from 4,111 m from 2012 to 2013, to approximately 600 m from 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015. Most new infections occurred in higher elevation over time. Distance to road from newly infected trees continuously increased, suggesting that natural diffusion dispersal is increasingly occurring compared to human-influenced dispersal over time.

  • AFLP markers were employed to detect genetic diversity and genetic relationship among 26 accessions of foxtail millet collected from Korea. Analysis of 26 accessions of foxtail millet with nine AFLP primer set combinations detected a total of 170 bands, of which 145 (85.3%) showed polymorphic at the species level. The phenotypic diversity (Hs) calculated for the nine primer combinations ranged from 1.84 to 6.8, with an average of 3.85. The average phenotypic diversity values were 3.39 and 2.99 for accessions collected from Gangwon province (Group 1), and accessions collected from the other areas including Gyeonggi province (Group 2), respectively. In the cluster analysis of 26 accessions, two major groups were recognized at 73% genetic similarity. Group I includes 13 accessions, which were collected in Gangwon province, and 1 accession, which was collected in Gyeonggi province, with genetic similarity of 76.8%. Group II includes two accessions, which were collected in Gangwon province, and 10 accessions, which were collected in the other areas with genetic similarity of 78.9%. The presenting data on the assessment of genetic diversity and genetic relationships among Korean accessions of foxtail millet will be helpful for efficient collection or conservation strategy of foxtail millet germplasm in Korea.

  • This study aimed to suggest the tasks which public support groups should fundamentally perceive and develop support models based on it so that socioeconomic activities, which have been spreading in recent years, can settle in local communities. For this aim, this study was proceeded based on Gyeonggi Province, which has established socioeconomic support center at metropolitan councils and local government councils. The demands by Gyeonggi Province residents toward the policies by Ddabok communities and local community invigoration measures have been examined through demand survey. In the analysis, characteristics and support tasks of the demands have been identified based on the survey results and six support models have been developed according to the tasks. The derived tasks are overcoming low understanding of Ddabok communities, low participation in community activities, and poor will to perform socioeconomic practices and satisfying the demand toward community activity areas adjacent to residence. Furthermore, the differences with the residents who have an experience of taking part in the Ddabok Community Project have to be overcome. Based on these study findings, this study suggested that support models of integration style and differentiated style, response to demand style and customization to capability style, and resources-focused style and resources-scattered style are necessary in order for socioeconomic communities like Ddabok communities to settle in local communities.

  • Recently innovation cluster has been emphasized as a valid policy measure for innovation. For suggesting a new model of innovation cluster, we conducted literature review for the theories of regional innovation system(RIS) and innovation clusters. As a result, the success factors of innovation cluster were classified into system measures, physical measures, and social(human resources) measures from the perspective of RIS. The case of Gyeonggi province's innovation cluster policy was examined for an empirical analysis. For an in-depth analysis, a survey for the tenant companies in Pangyo technovalley(PTV) was conducted. As a result, it was found that Gyeonggi province's innovation cluster policy is evolving from 'a government-initiated system' to 'the 3rd-generation convergence RIS' and that PTV is closely related to the system measures of 'support for up-to-date management and technology information' and 'support for academic-research-industry cooperative research and technological cooperation,' physical measures of 'strengthening the function of PTV support division' and 'shared research equipment and other infrastructures,' and social measures of 'legal, financial, and administrative support system' and 'public childcare facilities'. Also, technology sector was divided into IT and non-IT for a validity check to find out that there was no significant difference in all factors, except for the public relations factors. This study is expected to provide resources for other related researches.
