  • The responses of a bridge due to a moving vehicle are obtained analytically by modeling a vehicle as a constant point force. From the results it is found that the responses after a vehicle leaves the bridge become very small for some speeds of a vehicle. When a vehicle is modeled as a two dof system for a more accurate analysis, the same phenomenon is observed while the roughness of the surface of the bridge is small. Determining the fundamental frequency of a bridge so that one of the above speeds coincides with a frequent speed of vehicles, the responses of a bridge can be minimized.

  • Simulation analysis for an auto body manufacturing system has been performed in this study. The major goal is to figure out the condition yielding the production rate, 70 per hour. It is, however, very difficult to maintain this rate due to inherent system factors such as machine failure rates, machine repair rates, number of carriers between manufacturing lines(shops), carrier speed etc. We first carefully examined the system and developed a simulation model using ARENA. We then applied statistical experimental design concepts for performance analysis. Our results indicate that the buffer size of 30 and quick repair of failed robots are required for the desired production rate. Other factors, on the other hand, are seen to have minor effects on the throughput. The approach taken in this study and the results obtained may provide a practical guideline for performance analysis and thus be applied without trepidation for similar cases.

  • Accelerated ageing with low fertility is one of the most critical problems in Korea. Because of ageing via low fertility, Korea will face a serious demographic cliff. This research primarily focus on the analyzing the dynamics of the marginal ageing state and decreasing population especially in Eup and Myeon region. This study based on the system dynamics approaches for finding causal loop structure of marginal ageing and critical mass of population disappearing. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, demographic marginalization trends have already begun in the Eups and Myons of Gun. Second, marginal aging speed in Eup/Myeon areas is causing an population disappearing in the near future. Third, critical mass of population disappearing will begin when the rate of marginal aging is exceed 82% after 2023.

  • The PID controllers have been widely accepted in many industrial systems due to their robust performance in a wide range of operating conditions and their functional simplicity To implement a PID controller, its three parameters must be determined for the given plant. Conventional tuning methods are mainly based on experience and experiment and are lack of systematic procedure Recently. to overcome drawbacks of conventional tuning methods, genetic algorithms have been used, In this paper a real-coded genetic algorithm is employed to search for the optimal parameters of the PID controller for speed control of marine gas turbine engines. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

  • Transverse flux machine (TFM) has been developed to drive a machine of large input power at low-speed. However, it has complicated structure and large torque ripple due to its inherent structure In this paper the characteristics of torque of a rotatory two-phase TFM are analyzed by using the 3-dimensional finite to element method and optimal design. This research shows that one of the effective design variables is the skew angle of permanent magnet. The skew angles of permanent magnet are optimized by using a Progressive Quadratic Response Surface Method (PQRSM). It also shows that the proposed optimal skew magnet not only increases average torque but also decreases torque ripple of a rotatory two-phase TFM.

  • Rotatory two-phase transverse flux machine(TFM) is a relatively new type of motor with high power density, high torque, and low speed in comparison to conventional electrical motors. However, it has some shortcomings,.i.e. complex construction and high possibility of the magnetically induced vibration due to its inherent structure. This paper investigates the characteristics of the magnetic force and the torque in the rotatory two-phase TFM by using the 3-D finite element method and the spectral analysis. This research shows that the average torque decreases and that the torque ripple increases as the phase delay increases. It also shows that the unbalanced magnetic force is one of the dominant excitation forces in this machine. And it proposes a new topology of rotatory two-phase TFM to eliminate the unbalanced magnetic force.

  • Pumped-storage power plants pumps the water from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir using the extra electric power at night and generates electric power in the daytime. Currently it tends to be a high-head large-capacity machine. In this paper, we developed the computer programs for vibration analysis of the pump/turbine and generator/motor rotor system considering electromagnetic force, hydrodynamic unbalance force, dynamic characteristics of guide bearings and add mass of water. This program was verified by applying it to the real model and calculating the critical speed, natural mode and unbalance response.

  • This paper presents sliding mode control and optimal control techniques for controlling the speed of permanent magnet synchronous motor. Virtual sliding surface has nominal dynamics of an original system. The performance of the system with sliding mode control and optimal control is compared with the response of the nominal system. As a result, the sliding mode control and optimal control has robustness against the system uncertainties.

  • This paper presents development of a vehicle lateral and longitudinal control for autonomous driving control and test results obtained using an electric vehicle. Sliding control theory has been used to develop a vehicle speed and distance control algorithm. The longitudinal control algorithm that maintains safety and comfort of the vehicle consists of a cruise and STOP&GO control depending on traffic conditions. Desired steering angle is determined through the lateral position error and the yaw angle error based on preview optimal control. Motor control inputs have been directly derived from the sliding control law. The performance of the autonomous driving control which is integrated with a lateral and longitudinal control is investigated by computer simulations and driving test using an electric vehicle. Electric vehicle system consists of DC driving motor, an electric power steering system, main controller (Autobox)
