  • Anti-aircraft gun system is used for low-level air defense system and has more than twin guns with high firing rate in order to maximize the capability of defense. Gun's vibration and bullet's variance has a critical effect on accuracy and hit probability of weapon system such as anti-aircraft gun system with high firing rate. Typical mechanism to reduce the amount of vibration and shock during gun-fire process is very important design factor. In this paper, the suspension characteristics of the vehicle are studied for the improvement of isolating performance of gun firing system with high firing rate. Gun fire test for the vehicle is conducted and computational models using Recurdyn and Adams are created based on test results. Through this study, results of computational analysis are compared with the real test results, which includes type, location and quantity of suspension and gun mechanism are selected for anti-aircraft gun. From the result of this study, we could make basic design and consider the proper component of the system such as suspension and gun spring.

  • In order to find out relationship between hit probability and gun firing of a moving tank, a turret and flexible gun system model has been developed using a recursive flexible multibody dynamics. For a firing simulation model, nodal coordinates for a finite element model of a flexible gun have been employed to include transverse loads to the gun tube due to moving bullet and ballistic pressure. Modal coordinates are also used to represent the motion induced gun vibration before a firing occurs. An efficient switching technique from modal equations to nodal equation has been introduced for an entire gun firing simulation with a rotating turret.

  • This study aims to the increasing the reliability of gun firing system of patrol killer guided missile from failure mode analysis. In order to find out the breakdown parameter, the examination process of the sources of the problems and the quality improvement activities are analyzed with performance testing data. From this study, the rate of operation and the reliability of 76 mm naval guns will be increase. And the result of the study is expected to be used as a reference data in the naval gun firing system for another failure mode analysis.

  • Due to the improvement of science technology, the future tank system will have the multi-function for more powerful firing. and the tank, mounted this multi-function, must be lighter to maintain the mobility. Therefore, new brecoil technology would be necessary to reduce the recoil force for lighter platform. The present study covers a FOOB(Fire-Out0-Of-Battery) system that can reduce the recoil force dramatically. The firing sequence of the FOOB system is radically different from that of a conventional system. The gun is latched in out-of-battery position prior to firing. As soon as firing is occurred, the gun is unlatched and accelerated. The forward momentum is imparted to the recoiling parts. This momentum is opposed by the ballistic force imparted by firing and the recoil force and recoil length will be reduced. In this study, the ADAMS simulation has been performed with the scale model of the FIB(Fire-In-Battery) system and the FOOB system. The ADAMS simulation results show that the FOOB system could reduce the operating time and recoil length and the recoil force.

  • In naval gun firing, firing accuracy comes from the combination of each component's accuracy in CFCS (Command and Fire Control System) like tracking sensors and gun. Generally, battery alignment is done to correct the error between gun and tracking sensor by using boresight telescope on harbor and sea. But normally, the battery alignment can compensate only the static alignment error and ignore dynamic alignment error which is caused by own ship movement. There was no research on this dynamic alignment error until now. We propose a new way to analyze dynamic arrangement error by using image of boresight telescope. In case of the dynamic alignment error was due to time delay of own ship attitude information, we propose the way to compensate it.

  • In order to reduce the level of recoil force, new recoil technology must be employed. The present study discusses a soft-recoil system that can reduce dramatically the recoil force. The firing sequence of the soft recoil system is radically different from that of a conventional system. The gun is latched and preloaded in its out-of-battery position prior to firing. When unlatched, the gun is accelerated and forward momentum is imparted to the recoiling parts. This momentum is opposed by the ballistic force imparted by firing and the recoil force and stoke will be reduced. In the present study, the soft-recoil system with hydraulic dampers is simulated and its characteristics are investigated theoretically. The results of the simulation show that the soft-recoil system could dramatically reduce the recoil force and the recoil stroke compared to the conventional recoil systems. However, the soft-recoil system was not able to perform well when the firing fault modes like prefire, hang-fire, and misfire happen. Hence, we need to employ a control algorithm to prevent the damage of the recoil system due to these fault mode.

  • Because the residual vibration of a gun barrel acts negatively on the firing of a large calibers gun, the fast stabilization of theresidual vibration is indispensible to the precise and successive firing. In this study, the residual vibrations of a gun barrel carrying a bore evacuator and a muzzle brake are investigated by the experimental method. The influence of the eigenfrequencies and the mode shapes of gun barrel on the fast stabilization of the residual vibration is studied for the various masses of bore evacuator and muzzle brake, the possition of bore evacutor. Also the relationships between the funcamental frequencies and the settling times of the gun barrel are investigated for the various parameters. The experiments to reduce the residual vibration using the viscoelastic damping treatment gives the best result among the various treatments for the reduction of residual vibration of the system.

  • On the human-rifle system, the human body is affected by the firing impact. The firing impact will reduce the firing accuracy and change the initial shooting posture. Therefore the study of biomechanical characteristics using human-rifle modeling and numerical investigation is needed. The musculoskeletal model is developed by finite element method using beam and spar elements. In this study structural analysis has been performed in order to investigate the human body impact by firing of 5.56mm small caliber machine gun. The firing experiments with the standing shooting postures were performed to verify analytical results. The result if this study shows analytical displacements of the human-rifle system and experimental displacements of the real firing. As the results, the analytical displacement and stress of human body are presented.

  • This paper deals with a dynamic modeling of artillery system loaded by gun charge explosion during firing condition. Geometric and elastic gun data are used to modify a projectile interaction model. The maximum impact force on gun barrel was 15,000 N and the gun barrel moved about 1.3 m. A cannon bal] was presented to travel in the flexible gun, the traveling distance was about 23,000 m, and the angular velocity was about 10rad/sec. The artillery dynamic system using the multi-body dynamics enables us to obtain the data for the fatigue analysis.
