  • Having developed a parent education program for guidance of internet-using children, we evaluated the effectiveness of this program. The program consisted of five two-hour sessions. It was test-run with nineteen participants, which included mothers of elementary school children. In the evaluation of the program, we employed so-called 'pretest-posttest control group design' which compares the difference in the parenting sense of competence, parents' sense of role satisfaction, parents' sense of insecurity, and parents' rearing attitudes between the experimental group and the control group. Program evaluation revealed that the parenting sense of competence and role satisfaction increased in the group that participated in the program compared to the non-participating group. Furthermore, the parents' sense of insecurity decreased and democratic rearing attitudes were fostered in the participating group.

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the educational effects of career guidance classes, which are now included in regular course offerings by universities. To this end, the self-efficacy of college students regarding career decisions and their degree of career maturity was measured as effect variables. The subjects of the study included 33 sophomores who took 15 weeks of career guidance classes provided by four-year universities. Pretest-posttest design and the paired t-test were conducted for verifying the differences before and after taking career guidance courses. According to the results of the analysis, first, university students' self-efficacy in career decision-making was higher after taking the career guidance courses, indicating a statistically significant difference. Second, the t-value for the difference before and after taking the career guidance courses was indicating that there was a slight statistically significant improvement. These results are meaningful in that they proved that career guidance courses in higher education had the educational effects of improving self-efficacy in career path decisions and the career maturity of college students.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the nutrition knowledge of day-care center teachers and their guidance activities during meal time. Self-administered questionnaires were completed by 302 day care center teachers from September to November, 2004. The average score of nutrition knowledge was $12.9\pm2.3$ out of possible 20 points. As the teachers older(p<0.01) and the teaching careers longer(p<0.05), the scores of the nutrition knowledge was significantly higher. Those who had dietitian license showed significantly higher scores than others(p<0.01). Guidance activities during meal time were evaluated by the 5-point Likert scale on 24 items and the average score turned out to be $4.3\pm0.4$. The score showed significant difference only according to the length of the teaching career(p<0.05). These findings suggested that nutritional guidance and nutrition education program for day care center teachers should be developed so that they can effectively manage meal service and provide good nutrition for young children.
