Efficient Procedural Modeling of Trees Based on Interactive Growth Volume Control

  • The present study proposes efficient procedural modeling methods for enabling the growth and creation of various trees with minimal user control. Growth volume algorithms are utilized in order to easily and effectively calculate many parameters that determine tree growth, including branch propagation. Procedural methods are designed so that users' interactive control structures can be applied to these algorithms to create unique tree models efficiently. First, through a two-line-based interactive growth volume control method, the growth information that determines the overall shape of the tree is intuitively adjusted. Thereafter, independent branch control methods designed to control individual branches are added to the growth deformation in order to enable the growth of unique trees. Whether the growth processes of desired trees can be easily and intuitively controlled by the proposed method is verified through experiments. Methods that can apply the proposed methods are also verified.

생태복원지에 식재된 낙엽활엽수종의 이식 후 생장량 분석을 통한 관리기간 설정 연구 (Management Period Setting Study of through Analysis of the Growth Amount after Planting of Deciduous Broadleaf Species Planted in Ecological Restoration Sites)

  • 이식 과정을 통해 식재된 수목은 뿌리 절단, 수관 훼손과 같은 극단적인 교란으로 인해 식재 직후 생장량은 급격히 감소한다. 이후 시간이 경과하면서 원래의 생장량을 회복하는데 이때 소요되는 시간은 수종별로 차이가 있다. 따라서 이식 후 활착을 위한 수목관리를 위해 수종별 연간생장량의 변화를 분석하여 적정 관리 기간을 설정할 필요가 있다고 판단하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 수변생태벨트 조성 지역에 식재된 낙엽활엽수를 대상으로 생장량을 분석하고 그 결과를 바탕으로 적정 관리 기간을 제안하고자 하였다. 이식과정에서 수목 활착율을 높이기 위해 시행하는 사전 작업인 뿌리돌림, 단근, 가지치기 등으로 인해 식재 직후의 생장량 둔화는 일반적인 현상이다. 이후 시간이 경과하면서 원래의 생장량을 회복하게 되는데, 소요되는 시간은 수종별, 식재 환경 등에 따라 차이가 존재할 수 있다. 연구결과 대부분의 수목은 이식 직후 급격한 생장량 감소를 보이는 것으로 나타났으며. 이후 수종별로 상이하긴 하나 대부분 2년 이후부터 서서히 생장량을 회복하는 것으로 나타났다. 수종별 생장량을 분석한 결과 공통적으로 이식 직후 급격한 생장량 감소를 보인 후, 이식전의 생장 수준을 회복하기 까지는 수종에 따라 2~4년 정도의 시간이 필요한 것으로 확인되었다. 결과적으로, 생태복원 및 오염물질 저감이라는 본 사업의 목적에 부합하기 위해서는 식재한 수목의 하자율 개선이 필요하며, 이를 위해서는 적정한 기반환경을 조성하는 것 외에 최소 2년간의 수목 관리기간을 설정하는 것이 필요하다.

국가산림자원조사 자료를 활용한 소나무 연륜생장과 기후인자와의 관계분석 (Analysing the Relationship Between Tree-Ring Growth of Pinus densiflora and Climatic Factors Based on National Forest Inventory Data)

  • 본 연구는 국가산림자원조사에 의해 수집한 소나무의 연륜생장 목편자료에 근거하여 연륜생장과 기후인자와의 관계를 구명하기 위해 수행되었다. 먼저 소나무의 연도별 생장패턴을 분석하기 위해 제5차 국가산림자원조사에서 수집된 1951년부터 2010년까지 60년 동안의 연륜생장 자료를 정리하였다. 또한 소나무가 분포하는 시군을 대상으로 일별 평균기온과 강수량의 기상정보에 근거하여 연도별 생장도일과 표준강수지수를 산출하였다. 이 정보를 이용하여 기후조건이 소나무의 연륜생장에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위해 연도별 온도효과지수와 강수효과지수를 추정하였으며, 이들 변수를 독립변수로 하는 소나무의 연륜생장 추정식을 개발하였다. 마지막으로 이 추정식을 기후변화 시나리오 RCP 4.5와 RCP 8.5에 적용함으로써 기후변화가 소나무의 연륜생장에 미치는 영향을 예측하였다. 기후변화 시나리오를 적용하여 2011년부터 2100년까지 90년 동안의 연륜생장 변화를 예측한 결과 시간이 경과하면서 연륜생장이 감소하는 것으로 분석되었다. RCP 4.5 시나리오를 적용하면 상대적으로 생장감소가 적은 반면, RCP 8.5를 적용하면 2050년 이후에는 큰 폭으로 연륜생장이 감소하는 것으로 예측되었다. 본 연구에서 얻어진 결과는 소나무의 지역별 생장특성의 추정뿐만 아니라 기후변화에 따른 생장패턴의 변화 예측에 필요한 유용한 정보로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Exotic Mahogany Leaf Litter Hinders Growth of Philippine Native Tree Seedlings

  • With continuous decline of Philippine forest cover, sustainable forest management and restoration are essential to restore destroyed forest ecosystems. Unfortunately, of ten most planted trees in reforestation projects in the Philippines, eight are exotic species, with large leaf mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla) being the most dominant. In this study, effect of Swietenia macrophylla in reforestation projects on native tree species was evaluated. Effects of S. macrophylla leaf litter, frequency, and canopy closure on the growth of the Philippine native species Pterocarpus indicus were investigated. Results showed that S. macrophylla leaf litter significantly inhibited the growth of P. indicus seedlings based on root collar-to-shoot height. The standardized growth rate of seedlings in plots without S. macrophylla leaf litter was significantly higher than the growth rate of seedlings in plots with leaf litter. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the standardized growth rate of seedlings between plots without leaf litter and a control plot. On the contrary, S. macrophylla tree frequency and canopy closure showed no significant effect. These results attest to the negative effect of widely planted S. macrophylla to a valuable Philippine native tree P. indicus. With accumulating scientific evidence about negative effects of S. macrophylla on native trees, discontinued use in tree planting and reforestation efforts with active management of restoration sites previously planted with large leaf mahogany are needed.

Variation in Tree Growth Characteristics, Pilodyn Penetration, and Stress-wave Velocity in 65 Families of Acacia mangium Trees Planted in Indonesia

  • Growth characteristics [stem diameter (D), tree height (H)] and wood properties [Pilodyn penetration (P) and stress-wave velocity (SWV)] were measured for 65 families of 6-year-old Acacia mangium trees planted in Indonesia, in order to characterize their variation in D, H, P, and SWV. Therefore, the correlations between the measured characteristics were also determined, and their significant differences observed. Furthermore, their low to moderate values of narrow-sense heritability was obtained, and the results indicated the characteristics to be genetically controlled in A. mangium. In addition, highly significant positive correlations were observed among the growth characteristics, suggesting a close relationship, while there was no significant association between the growth characteristics and P, as well as SWV, indicating their independent. Therefore, these results demonstrate a potential for the improvement of both growth and wood properties of A. mangium trees, using the appropriate breeding programs. In addition, 18 families showed good performance in D and SWV, signifying their positive prospect of being considered as plus trees for the next generation breeding cycles.

I-Tree: A Frequent Patterns Mining Approach without Candidate Generation or Support Constraint

  • Devising an efficient one-pass frequent pattern mining algorithm has been an issue in data mining research in recent past. Pattern growth algorithms like FP-Growth which are found more efficient than candidate generation and test algorithms still require two database scans. Moreover, FP-growth approach requires rebuilding the base-tree while mining with different support counts. In this paper we propose an item-based tree, called I-Tree that not only efficiently mines frequent patterns with single database scan but also provides multiple mining scopes with multiple support thresholds. The 'build-once-mine-many' property of I-Tree allows it to construct the tree only once and perform mining operation several times with the variation of support count values.

생육환경에 따른 보호수 이미지 평가 - 예산군 느티나무를 중심으로 - (The study on the Image Evaluation of a Preserved Tree as Growth Environment - Focused on the Zelkova serrata in Yesangun -)

  • To evaluate the value of a preserved tree as rural landscape resource, the growth environment and health condition was investigated, and the image evaluation was implemented on land~ape architectural major undergraduate students for zelkova trees in Yesan-gun. The image evaluation results of zelkova trees were as followings; 1) Typical image of preserved tree examined by Semantic Differential Scale were 'Old', 'Big', and 'Good'. 2) The 'big' image of zelkova tree and the height of tree, the width of tree crown, the breast girth of tree, the root girth of tree, the external formation of tree, and the health of tree bark is mutually related. Especially, the correlation between the 'big' and the external formation and the width of tree crown is high. 3) Typical image of preserved tree examined by Likert Scale were 'Natural', 'Green', 'Peaceful', and 'Rural'. 4) The preservation necessity for preserved tree was highly related with the state of ground, and the management necessity for preserved tree was highly related with contamination level and the state of ground. The appropriate management plan for preserved tree are proposed to improve the quality of rural landscape(basis of these results).

경기도 평택시 보호수의 생육실태와 관리방안 연구 (Analysis of Growth Condition and Some Suggestions for Its Maintenance of Legally Protected Trees Grown in Pyungtack City, Kunggi Province, Korea)

  • This study intended to analyze growth condition of each object by protected tree's ground for 45 places registered to Pyeongtaek protected tree list in locational characteristics, conduct exchange analysis for impediment extent rate in crown area and tree type to the result and suggest the measures to manage artificial impediment which is an effect on protected tree condition. In this study, the tree whose area of impediment for crown area is less than 21% is tree condition of grade 1~2, less than 21~50% is grade 2~3 and more than 50% is grade 3~5. The more impediment is, the more inconvenience causes on growth and development. So, it verified that the area rate must maintain less than 21% for the root system management of protected tree. For the standard of managing artificial impediment which is an effect on the tree condition of protected trees, the below matters intend to be suggested. The first, the impediment in crown area should be less than 21%. But, if there is not artificial impediment out of crown area, the rate of impediment area is considered to increase somewhat. The second, growth space of protected tree should be maintained by crown area at least and impediment should be established out of the crown area. The third, during the national project and land development, surroundings of protected tree must be applied as park, resting place, etc. and the establishment area of impediment (artificial impediment and natural impediment) in crown area must be limited. The forth, publicity for regional people (especially, land owner) is necessary for the protection of natural inheritance and the value of dependence on local government and village which are the subject of management must be announced widely through the internet media, etc, so its importance must be recognized. The fifth, the matters related to protected tree management must be able to limit artificial damage which is for surroundings of protected tree through the mutual connection among the local governments; construction, civil engineering, architecture, water and sewage, agriculture and forest and others. Also, following studies on the effects of kinds, thickness, etc. of impediment around the protected tree on trees should be continued.

  • Treeing has a profit to observe processing electrical breakdown because it gives degradation steps of insulation material by optical method. But, reappearance properly of treeing is not so good and precise quantization of tree growth is not so easy because tree Patterns are very complicate. The study on tree growth using image processing is predicted to precision of tree degradation and possible to quality measurement of tree pattern. In this paper, degradation steps are analyzed by image processing, therefore precision and realiability of tree growth are increased. Also, processing of tree degradation is quantized by fractal.

중부지방 소나무와 참나무류의 반경생장량과 지형, 기후 인자의 관계 (The Relationship Between Tree Radial Growth and Topographic and Climatic Factors in Red Pine and Oak in Central Regions of Korea)

  • 본 연구는 한국 중부지방의 소나무와 참나무류의 생장에 기후와 지형인자가 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 입목의 반경생장량과 기상 인자간의 관계를 규명하기 위해 수목의 목편을 채취하고 연년반경생장량을 측정하였다. 본 연구에서는 연년반경생장량이 기본적으로 수령에 영향을 받는다고 가정하여 수령을 독립변수로 하는 생장량을 추정하고 이를 기반으로 수령 30년 일때의 생장량을 표준생장량으로 정의하여 추정하였다. 표준생장량의 공간분석을 통해 소나무 생장의 공간적인 변이성을 발견하였으며, Generalized Additive Model(GAM) 통해 지형 및 기상인자와 표준 생장량간의 관계를 밝힐 수 있었다. 기온상승은 소나무 생장에는 부(-)의 영향을 참나무에는 양(+)의 영향을 주며, 강수량 증가는 두 수종 모두에게 부(-)의 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 표준생장량과 지형 및 기상 인자간의 관계식을 GIS기반 임상도의 소나무와 참나무류 공간분포에 적용하여 기온상승에 대한 소나무와 참나무류의 공간분포변화를 예측하였다. 이를 통해 우리나라의 소나무는 참나무류에 비해 기후변화에 취약하며, 60년 이후에는 동해안 및 남부지역을 중심으로 대부분의 소나무림이 참나무류림으로 대체될 것으로 예측되었다.
