  • The problem of phase change from liquid to solid in the inviscid plane-stagnation flow is theoretically investigated. The solution at the initial stage of freezing is obtained by expanding it in powers of time, and the final equilibrium state is determined from the steady-state governing equations. The transient solution is dependent on the three dimensionless parameters, but the equilibrium state is determined by one parameter of (temperature ratio/conductivity ratio). The effect of the fluid flow on the growth rate of the solid in the pure conduction problem can be clearly seen from the solution of the initial stage and the final equilibrium state. The characteristics of the transient heat transfer at the surface of the solid and the liquid side of the solid-liquid interface for all the dimensionless parameters are elucidated.

  • In this study, we are aimed to prevent grain growth of semi-solid AZ31 magnesium alloys during reheating process. The semi-solid AZ31+(Ca) billets were investigated by using metallographic analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy in order to elucidate the effect of Ca addition during reheating process. The grain growth of semi-solid AZ31+(Ca) billet was reduced with increasing Ca content during reheating. The grain size of AZ31+(Ca) billet decreased with increasing volume fraction of Al2Ca particles. The grain growth rate constant K calculated by Oswald ripening LSW theory in AZ31+1.5wt.% Ca billet was the lowest 129.

  • For semi-solid forging with aluminuim alloys, it is required to develope the globular grain structure. It was studide that cold upsetting ration in SIMA process has effect on the globularization of grain structure. Globular microstructure was generated without cold upsettings for commercial aluminium alloys. In the case of A12024, the range of grain size was 40 .approx. 50 .mu. m. The grain growth in growth in globular microstructure depend on heating time. Spur gear was forged in semi-solid state to investigate the forging condition for A12024 with hydraulic press.

  • In this paper, a solid capsule was prepared using a crystal growth type inorganic material capable of hydration reaction. The solid capsules were mixed at 3, 5, and 10% according to the composition ratio of 8:2, 7:3, 6:4 based on the cement mass, and the self-healing mortar was mixed, Durable healing properties were evaluated through the water permeability test. As a result of the water level permeability test, the effect of optimally improving the natural healing performance was shown by mixing the solid capsules prepared in a composition ratio of 7:3 of the solid capsules. In the case of a crack width of 0.3mm or less, it is estimated that more than 90% of the self-healing performance can be secured. As a result, it was judged that the self-healing performance of the solid capsule had an effect on the durable healing properties through the water permeability test, It is judged that there is a tendency to improve self-healing performance according to the mixing of solid capsules.

  • In this study, solid capsules using crystal growth-type inorganic materials that can be directly mixed with mortar were prepared. Thus, three levels of solid capsules were prepared. The prepared solid capsule was mixed with 3% of the cement mass, was evaluated quality and crack healing properties of the mortar. As a test results of the table flow and air content of the mortar mixed with the solid capsules showed that mix of the solid capsules was no effect on the table flow and air volume. As a test result of the crack healing properties of the mortar mixed with the solid capsule according to water flow test and crack closing test, the initial flow rate was decreased, it was confirmed that the reaction product occurred over time and the cracks were healed.

  • Six-hundred bacterial strains from human milk and milk from Sahiwal cows, Holstein Friesian cows, and buffaloes were screened for their ability to suppress phytopathogenic fungi under in vitro conditions. A consortium of 3 strains, viz., Bacillus lentimorbus B-30486 (B-30486), B. subtilis B-30487 (B-30487), and B. lentimorbus B-30488 (B-30488), isolated from Sahiwal cow milk resulted in better biological control and plant-growth promotion than single-strain treatments. For commercial-scale production of a bioinoculant, the solid-state fermentation of sugarcane agro-industrial residues, i.e., molasses, press mud, and spent wash, using the consortium of B-30486, B-30487, and B-30488, resulted in a value-added product, useful for enhancing plant growth. The application of the consortium to sugarcane fields infested with Fusarium moniliforme and Colletotrichum falcatum resulted in a reduction of mortality and significantly higher (P=0.05) plant height, number of tillers, and cane girth when compared with the control. Furthermore, under field conditions, the treatment of sugarcane with the consortium resulted in significantly (P=0.05) greater plant growth compared with nonbacterized plants. Accordingly, this is the first report on the effective use of bacteria isolated from milk for biological control and enhancing plant growth under field conditions. Furthormore, a solid-state fermentation technology was developed that facilitates the economic utilization of agro-industrial residues for environmental conservation and improving plant and soil health.

  • To study interface between crystals grown and molten state in the crusible. Pulling and rotating rate of the shaft were varied in LiF crystal growth by Czochralski method. Lower speed of the pulling and rotating rate increased the degree of convexity in solid-liquid interface and higher speed of the pulling and rotating rate decreased it. Optimum condition of LiF crystal growth obtained as pulling rate was 6.5cm/h when it rotated as 46rpm.

  • The growth process of solid grains in a liquid matrix is usually explained in tem1S of Ostwald ripening. The variation of growth (dissolution) rate as a function of grain size during Ostwald ripening predicted that the dissolution rate becomes very large as grain size decreases but the growth rate of a large grain is rather limited. Therefore. a rather uniform size distribution of grain size is maintained once after the quasi-equilibrium state is reached. Quite frequently, however, the exaggerated grain growth (EGG) is observed to occur: only a limited number of grains grow exceptionally. From the observation that the EGG occurs only for the faceted grains with apparently straight solid-liquid interfaces, the EGG is suggested to be the consequence of growth process controlled by 2-dimensional nucleation. In this study, the result by computer calculation on the grain growth process controlled by various mechanisms will be given.

  • 14 cm length Al-15Cu-1Mg alloys have been directionally solidified in 3 mm diameter alumina tubes in a furnace moved with a constant velocity V=12 cm/hr under various furnace temperatures of 660, 710 and $760^{\circ}C$. By analysing the evolution of the temperature profiles along the alloy length during the solidification, the growth characteristics such as the position of the solid/liquid interface, the local growth velocity (R) and the temperature gradient at the solid/liquid interface (G) have been determined. The effects of the furnace temperature on the growth behavior have been investigated by the comparison of R and G values for each temperature. Under the furnace temperature of $760^{\circ}C$, steady state growth region was observed for the latter half of the growth period.
