In order to investigate early identification of species of the wood-decaying fungi in the the mycelial stage, the authors isolated of 41 species, 28 genus, 9 family at 8 locations in Korea and cultivated these isolates on the various kinds of solid media. After investigating such cultural characteristics as oxidase reactions with tannic and gallic acid, various morphological features of colony and growth grade, appeared on the various media, the authors obtained the following results : 1. The oxidase reactions with tannic and gallic acid in the PDTA, DTA, PDGA and DGA media are available for identificantion of the wood-decaying fungi. 2. The oxidase reactions with guaiacol, pyrogallol and hydroquinone in the PDGUA, PDPA and PDHA media are not so much available for identification of the wood-decaying fungi. 3. Morphological features of colonies such as mycelium color, floccose, floccose-powdery, mycelloid, powdery-mycelloid, velvet, radiate, contoured, rosulate and growth grade on the PDA, PSA and PXA media are useful for identification of wood-decaying fungi. 4. It is believed that early identification in species level of wood-decaying fungi using cultural characteristics in the mycelial stage is possible. 5. The key for the identification of 41 species of wood-decaying fungi is proposed by the cultural characteristics using several solid media.
A protein-polysaccaride fraction Kp(53.9% polysaccharide, 14.2% protein) was separated from the shake-cultured mycelia of a basidiomycetous fungus, Phellinus linteus, and its antitumor activity against sarcoma 180 in ICR mice was investigated. When administered after the tumor implantation, Kp exerted antitumor activity by inhibiting the growth of the sarcoma 180 solid tumor by 71.5% and increasing the life span of the sarcoma 180 ascitic mice by 51.5% at 100 mg/kg. In pretreatment tests, in which Kp was administered once daily for 9 days before the tumor implantation, Kp inhibited the growth of the solid and ascites form of sarcoma 180, respectively, by 35.4% and by 80.3% at 100 mg/kg. However, Kp showed no in vitro cytotoxic activity against a murine leukemia L1210 and a human gastric tumor SNU.1 upto the concentration of $200\;{\mu}g/ml$. From these results, it is clear that the antitumor activity of Kp is exerted through its immunomodulating activity on the host's immune system.
Grateloupia filicina (J.V. Lamouroux) C. Agardh (Halymeniaceae, Cryptonemiales, Rhodophyta) is an edible seaweed as well as an important source of carrageenan. In the present study, attempt has been made to develop a suitable protocol for effective regeneration of the seaweed and the rapid multiplication of the desired varieties. The young upright thallus of G. filicina was grown in axenic culture using both solid and liquid media. The various media tested were f/2, Provasoli’s Enriched Seawater (PES) and Enriched Seawater (ESW). The effect of glycerol (as a carbon source) and various plant growth regulators i.e. auxin (NAA) and cytokinins (Kinetin and BA) were tested. Although, regeneration of young thalli was observed from the cut ends in all the media, better growth was found in f/2, PES, f/2 (0.5% Glycerol), f/2 (NAA ${10^{-5}}_M)\;and\;f/2\;(BA\;{10^{-6}}_M$). On the other hand callusing was observed only in solid media supplemented with low concentration of Glycerol (0.5%) in f/2, NAA ${10^{-5}}_M\;in\;f/2,\;PES\;and\;BA\;{10^{-5}}_M$ in f/2. Young thalli were developed from the callus sub culture after 40 days of inoculation.
During solidification or welding of alloys, the solute redistribution brings out microsegregation. The microsegregation causes the formation of non-equilibrium second phases, shrinkage and porosity degrading mechanical/chemical properties Therefore, it has been required to predict microsegregation quantitatively. To predict the degree of microsegregation, more exact and appropriate computer simulation technique has been actively used during last two decades. To predict the degree of microsegregation in weld metal, an advanced two dimensional model was suggested. In the new model, both primary and secondary arm regions were defined for the analysis region. The growth in the primary arm regina was assumed to be a planar for effective calculation. Especially, for the growth of a secondary arm, a simple and effective mathematical function was established to show the growing pattern, the solute diffusion in the solid phase was calculated by finite difference method (FDM). The solid-liquid interface movement was considered to be in local equilibrium state. The experiments for welding of 310S stainless steel were carried out in order to examined the reasonability and feasibility of this model. The concentration profiles of the solute predicted by this model were compared with those obtained from experimental works.

YBCO bulks with fine $Y_2BaCuO_5$(Y211) particles have been prepared by the top-seed modified powder melting process method, Solid-Liquid Melt Growth(SLMG), with $Y_2O_3$, $BaCuO_2$ and CuO mixing precursor. By using $Y_2O_3$ instead of $Y_2BaCuO_5$ as precursor, the processing became to be simpler and cheaper than the current powder melting process. The microstructures, trapped field and critical current density of the various conditioned YBCO bulks have been analyzed and the effect of Pt additive was studied. The different trapped magnetic field values of the several samples have been explained in the viewpoint of their microstructures. The fabrication of large-sized YBCO single domain has been conducted.

The pseudo-spinel type solid solution, $LiAl_{2.5}/Fe_{2.5}O_8$ was prepared by reaction of $LiCO_3, Al_2O_3, Fe_2O_3$ mixture at 1620K, which can be used for cathode material in lithium batteries. Its structure was investigated by Rietveld profile-analysis of XRD in detail. The space group of solid solution is $P4_3$32(a=8.1293$\AA$) and the final residual index of structure refinement was about 5%. Cations $Al^{3+}, Fe^{3+}$ are located at both tetra- and octahedral-coordination and $Li^+$ ions are occupied in the octahedral 4b-, 12d-site of the inverse spinel.

Octahedral shaped single crystalline undoped and Ga-doped indium oxide nano-and microcrystals were fabricated using vapor-solid growth process. Effects of Ga doping on the crystallinity, defect structure, and optical properties of the nano-/microstructures have been studied using scanning electron microscopy, microRaman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and cathodoluminescence spectroscopy. It has been observed that incorporation of Ga does not affect the morphology of $In_2O_3$ structures due to its smaller ionic radius, and similar oxidation state as that of In. However, incorporation of Ga in high concentration (~3.31 atom %) causes lattice compression, reduces optical band gap and defect induced CL emissions of $In_2O_3$ nano-/microcrystals. The single crystalline Ga-doped, $In_2O_3$ nano-/microcrystals with low defect contents are promising for optoelectronic applications.

The phosphatic calcium compounds such as calcium hydrogen phosphate, bone ash, hydroxyapatite and
tricalcium phosphate were prepared using the high purity calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate obtained from shell
resources. Calcium hydrogen phosphate had been prepared using the high purity calcium hydroxide and phosphoric acid
solution. Using the calcium hydrogen phosphate as a starting materials, bone ash have been prepared by solid state
reaction method and hydroxyapatite could be obtained by hydrothermal treatment method, respectively. The tricalcium
phosphate was prepared by the solid state reaction of a stoichiometic mixture of bone ash and high purity calcium
carbonate. In this paper, the optimal preparation process and conditions of phosphatic calcium compounds were established.
Stacking faults in SiC whiskers grown by three different growth mechanisms; vapor-solid(VS), two-stage growth(TS), and vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) mechanism in the carbothermal reduction system were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The content of stacking faults in SiC whiskers increased with decreasing the diameter of whiskers, i.e., the small diameter whiskers (<1 $\mu\textrm{m}$) grown by the VS, TS, and VLS mechanisms have heavy stacking faults whereas the large diameter whiskers(>2$\mu\textrm{m}$) grown by the VLS mechanism have little stacking faults. Heavy stacking faults of small diameter whiskers was probably due to the high specific lateral surface area of small diameter whiskers.
Enhanced application of solid-state fermentation (SSF) in industrial production and the influence of SSF of Rhizopus K1 on glucoamylase productivity were analyzed using the flat band method. A growth model was implemented through SSF of Rhizopus K1 in this experiment, and spectrophotometric method was used to determine glucoamylase activity. Results showed that in bran and potato culture medium with 70% moisture in a loose state, ${\mu}$ of mycelium reached to $0.15h^{-1}$ after 45 h of culture in a thermostatic water bath incubator at $30^{\circ}C$. Under a low-magnification microscope, mycelial cells appeared uniform, bulky with numerous branches, and were not easily ruptured. The generated glucoamylase activity reached to 55 U/g (dry basis). This study has good utilization value for glucoamylase production by Rhizopus in SSF.
