대황(Eisenia bicyclis) 배우체와 아포체의 생장에 미치는 환경 인자의 영향 (Effects of Environmental Factors on the Growth of Gametophytes and Young Sporophytes of Eisenia bicyclis (Kjellman) Setchell)

  • Eisenia bicyclis, a perennial macroalga is a primary producer of in the ocean, It has been identified as a key species that plays a vital role in maintaining the ecosystem stability. Also, it is an important target in marine afforestation projects and useful marine organisms. In addition, E. bicyclis is used as a health food for humans. This study investigated the effect of water temperature, light (photon irradiance), and duration of light (photoperiod) on the growth of gametophytes and young sporophytes of E. bicyclis. The germination and growth of the zoospores of E. bicyclis were examined at five temperatures (5℃, 10℃, 15℃, 20℃ and 25℃), four intensities of photon irradiance (10, 20, 40, and 80 μmol m-2s-1), and photoperiods (14:10 and 10:14 light/dark cycles). The zoospores released from mature plant germinated into the gametophytes under all experimental conditions. The gametophytes were able to grow at water temperature 5℃-25℃ and mature at 10℃-20℃. The optimal range of water temperature for the maturation of the gametophyte was 15℃-20℃. At 25℃, E. bicyclis gametophytes grew rapidly but did not mature. The optimal culture conditions for the growth of young sporophytes grew slowly in low temperature and photon irradiances.

  • KTP 종자결정의 육성을 수열법에 의해 행하였으며, 육성결정의 물성은 적외분광 광도계를 이용하여 조사하였다.종자결정의 육성에 있어 큰 성장속도를 나타내는 수열 조건은 다음과 같다. 즉, 온도범위,$430~450^{\circ}C $ ; 수열용매, 4몰 KF용액 ; 온도차, $30<{\triangle}T<65^{\circ}C$ ; 충진율%, 65% ; 육성방법, 수직온도 구배법. 이와 같은조건하에서 얻어진 KTP단 결정의 형태는(100), (011), (201)면이 잘 발달하는 경향이 있었으며 그리고 육성결정 중에는hydroxyl group이 존재하였다.

Solid media based on Monochamus alternatus to growth and physiologically active substance of Paecilomyces tenuipes fruiting bodies

  • Paecilomyces tenuipes (P. tenuipes) is a fungus cultivated artificially by South Korean researchers, utilizing rice bran as its substrate. The increased demand for this fungus has not been met with successful cultivation methods for fruiting body production in natural environments. Therefore, we tested the effect on the growth of P. tenuipes using a Solid media based on pests. In this results, the Solid media based on M.alternatus was effective in increasing the growth of P. tenuipes and the content of cordycepin. Moreover, we confirmed the conditions for manufacturing a Solid media based on M.alternatus for P. tenuipes growth. We suggested that the growth-promoting compounds offers valuable insights for optimizing fungal cultivation conditions, thereby enhancing productivity and contributing to a broader understanding of fungal physiology in varying nutritional environments.

Optimal Growth Conditions for the Two Euryhaline Cyanobacterial Clones, Anabaena sp. CB-MAL21 and CB-MAL22 Isolated from Mankyeong Estuary, Korea

  • As a result of the 2-year monthly monitoring of the phytoplankton community at 3 stations in Mankyeong Estuary, Korea, we learned that cyan bacterial species of the genus Anabaena occurred at most sampling points with huge salinity differences (0.1-32.5 psu). We isolated several clones of Anabaena spp. from the monitoring stations, and screen out two euryhaline and nitrogen-fixing Anabaena clones, CB-MAL21 and CB-MAL22. The two clones were grown under various environmental gradients such as temperature (20, 30, 35 and 40$^{\circ}C$), salinity (0, 2, 5, 15 and 30psu), and $PO_4^{3-}$-P concentration (0, 1.6, 8.0, 40 and 200 ${\mu}M$M). Growth of CB-MAL21 and CB-MAL22 was measured by daily monitoring of chlorophyll fluorescence from each experimental culture for more than three serial transfers. Both the two experimental clones did not grow at 0psu. Maximal growth rates of the two clones were markedly reduced at lower $PO_4^{3-}$-P concentrations showing negligible growth at 0 and 1.6 ${\mu}M$M. However, growth of CB-MAL21 was not affected by low $NO_3^--$ concentration in culture media, showing the nitrogen-fixing ability. Maximum biomass yields of the two clones decreased dramatically at 35 and 40$^{\circ}C$. Optimal growth conditions for the two experimental clones were determined to be 20-30$^{\circ}C$, 40 ${\mu}M$M $PO_4^{3-}$-P, and wide salinity range from 5.0 to over 30psu. Best growth of CB-MAL21 was shown at (20$^{\circ}C$-15psu), which is less saline and cooler condition than those (i.e., 30$^{\circ}C$-30psu) for the best growth of CB-MAL22. The euryhaline and nitrogen-fixing CB-MAL21 strain thus can be a candidate laboratory culture for the future cyan bacterial marine biotechnology in temperate coastal waters.

Fabrication of the catalyst free GaN nanorods on Si grown by MOCVD

  • Recently light emitting diodes (LEDs) have been expected as the new generation light sources because of their advantages such as small size, long lifetime and energy-saving. GaN, as a wide band gap material, is widely used as a material of LEDs and GaN nanorods are the one of the most widely investigated nanostructure which has advantages for the light extraction of LEDs and increasing the active area by making the cylindrical core-shell structure. Lately GaN nanorods are fabricated by various techniques, such as selective area growth, vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) technique. But these techniques have some disadvantages. Selective area growth technique is too complicated and expensive to grow the rods. And in the case of VLS technique, GaN nanorods are not vertically aligned well and the metal catalyst may act as the impurity. So we just tried to grow the GaN nanorods on Si substrate without catalyst to get the vertically well aligned nanorods without impurity. First we deposited the AlN buffer layer on Si substrate which shows more vertical growth mode than sapphire substrate. After the buffer growth, we flew trimethylgallium (TMGa) as the III group source and ammonia as the V group source. And during the GaN growth, we kept the ammonia flow stable and periodically changed the flow rate of TMGa to change the growth mode of the nanorods. Finally, as the optimization, we changed the various growth conditions such as the growth temperature, the working pressure, V/III ratio and the doping level. And we are still in the process to reduce the diameter of the nanorods and to extend the length of the nanorods simultaneously. In this study, we focused on the shape changing of GaN nanorods with different growth conditions. So we confirmed the shape of the nanorods by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and carried out the Photoluminescence (PL) measurement and x-ray diffraction (XRD) to examine the crystal quality difference between samples. 배수등급이 다른 논토양에서 2년생 인삼의 품종별 생육 및 진세노사이드함량 차이 (Varietal Difference in Growth Response and Ginsenoside Contents of Two-Year-Old Ginseng Grown in Paddy Field with Different Drainage Conditions)

  • 논토양에서 적응하는 품종 선발과 재배기술을 개발하기 위해 배수등급이 다른 논토양(배수 불량지와 배수 약간불량지)에서 천풍, 연풍, 황숙종, 자경종 등 4 품종을 사용하여 2년생 인삼의 생육특성 및 수량성과 뿌리의 진세노사이드 함량을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 배수등급에 따라 지상부 생존율과 황증 발생율은 뚜렷한 차이를 보여 배수불량지에서는 지상부 생존율이 저하되고 황증 발생율이 증가하였는데, 배수불량지에서 황숙종은 지상부 생존율이 가장 높고 황증 발생율이 가장 낮았으며, 연풍은 지상부 생존율이 가장 낮고 황증 발생율이 가장 높았다. 2. 배수불량지에서는 배수약간불량지에 비해 지상부가 일찍 고사된 관계로 주당 근중이 작고 수량성도 뚜렷이 감소되었는데, 배수불량지에서의 수량성은 자경종 > 천풍 > 연풍 > 황숙종 순으로 자경종과 천풍의 수량성이 높았으며, 배수약간불량지에는 천풍 > 연풍 > 자경종 > 황숙종 순으로 천풍과 연풍의 수량성이 높았다. 3. 적변율은 배수등급보다는 품종 간에 더 큰 차이를 보였는데, 천풍과 자경종의 적변율은 비교적 작은 반면 연풍과 황숙종은 매우 큰 특징을 보였다. 4. 근 비대가 불량했던 배수불량지는 배수약간불량지보다 진세노사이드 함량이 증가되었는데, 배수불량지에서 품종별 총 진세노사이드 함량은 연풍 > 천풍 > 자경종 > 황숙종 순이었고 배수약간불량지에서는 연풍 > 자경종 > 천풍 > 황숙종 순으로 배수조건에 관계없이 연풍이 가장 높고 황숙종이 가장 낮았으며, 천풍과 자경종은 서로 비슷하였다.

FDI가 아시아 국가의 경제성장에 미치는 영향: 중국·인도·베트남·한국 비교 (Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Growth in Asia: Comparative analysis of China, India, Vietnam and Korea)

  • The study conducted an empirical analysis of the impact of FDI on economic growth in four Asian countries: China, India, Vietnam and Korea. With panel data for the 1990-2017 period, the research model was developed for foreign direct investment (FDI), export amount (EX), government expenditure (G), exchange rate (EXR), and labourable population (L). The panel analysis results show that the increase in FDI, exports, government expenditure, labourable population significantly increased economic growth. The comparison analysis for each country revealed that FDI, exports and government expenditure significantly affect economic growth in China, that exports and government expenditure significantly affect economic growth in Korea, that FDI significantly affected economic growth in Vietnam, and that the increase in the workforce contributed to economic development in India. This paper characterized the different factors of economic growth in the four Asian countries. These results suggest that setting economic priorities to suit the specific economic conditions of each country is a shortcut to more efficient economic growth.

해양 미세조류 Isochrysis galbana Parke 성장에 대한 환경 및 영양 조건의 영향 (Effect of the Environmental and Nutritional Conditions on the Growth of Marine Microalga Isochrysis Galbana Parke)

  • 해양 미세조류인 Isochrysis galbana Parke의 성장에 미치는 여러 환경요인과 배지요인의 영향을 조사하고 최적 배양조건을 구하였다. 그 결과를 요약하 면 다음과 같다. 1. 인공바닷물은 자연바닷물보다 다소 낮은 비성 장속도와 최종 균체농도를 나타내었다. 2.. 자연바닷물이 기초배지로 사용되었을 때 2mM 이상의 충분한 질산염 농도가 필요하였다. 그러나 미량원소와 비타민의 영향은 관찰되지 않았다. 3. 완충용액요로 Tris를 첨가한 경우 pH는 일정 하게 유지가 가능하나 비성장속도와 최종 균체농도 가 감소하였다. 4. 최적 초기 pH와 온도는 각각 pH 8, $20^{\circ}C$ 였다. 5. 벚세기를 400-21001ux의 범위에셔 변화시켰을 때 비성장속도는 18501ux까지 증가하였고 그 이 후로는 일정하였다. 6. 10mL에서 70mL로 Working volume을 증가 시켰을 때 초기 성장속도는 비슷하였으나 최종 균체 농도가 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 7. Working volume이 30mL일 때 최적 교반속 도는 100rpm정도이고, 더 높은 교반속도에서는 최 종 균체농도의 감소가 관찰되었다. 8. 플라스크배양의 최적조건에서 최대 비성장속도 와 최종 균체농도는 각각 $O.021hr^{-1}$과 1.1g/L로 얻어졌다.

Nutrition and feed approach according to pig physiology

  • The use of antibiotics in Korean swine production has been changing to a restricted use of in-feed antibiotics. These antibiotics, which are also growth promoters, are powerful for disease control. Due to this issue, the swine industry is consistently looking for any kind of alternatives to antibiotics such as new feed ingredients, feed additives, feed formulation practices, or feeding methods to improve pig health and performance. In general, dietary factors provide bioavailable nutrients and/or affect physiological activity to modify the physiological condition, immune system, or microbial population of pigs to improve their performance and health. Thus, it is suggested that dietary factors may be important components in the growth and health management of pigs. Using an alternative grain feed such as rice, barley, and oats, low protein diets or low-high energy diets can be used as solutions to manage the effect of stress factors that cause growth and health problems at specific time points during the stages of pig production. Several studies support that these alternative feeds and dietary factors may improve pig growth and health by changes in intestinal conditions, immunity, or other physiological conditions compared with typical feed ingredients and diet management in pig production. Therefore, feed ingredients, low protein levels, and different energy contents in swine diets were reviewed to better understand how these dietary factors can contribute to improved pig performance and health under different physiological conditions.

Cultural Conditions for Mycelial Growth and Molecular Phylogenetic Relationship in Different Wild Strains of Schizophyllum commune

  • The common split-gilled mushroom, Schizophyllum commune is found throughout the world on woody plants. This study was initiated to evaluate conditions for favorable vegetative growth and to determine molecular phylogenetic relationship in twelve different strains of S. commune. A suitable temperature for mycelial growth was obtained at $30^{\circ}C$. This mushroom grew well in acidic conditions and pH 5 was the most favorable. Hamada, glucose peptone, Hennerberg, potato dextrose agar and yeast malt extract were favorable media for growing mycelia, while Lilly and glucose tryptone were unfavorable. Dextrin was the best and lactose was the less effective carbon source. The most suitable nitrogen sources were calcium nitrate, glycine, and potassium nitrate, whereas ammonium phosphate and histidine were the least effective for the mycelial growth of S. commune. The genetic diversity of each strain was investigated in order to identify them. The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of rDNA were amplified using PCR. The size of the ITS1 and ITS2 regions of rDNA from the different strains varied from 129 to 143 bp and 241 to 243 bp, respectively. The sequence of ITS1 was more variable than that of ITS2, while the 5.8S sequences were identical. A phylogenetic tree of the ITS region sequences indicated that the selected strains were classified into three clusters. The reciprocal homologies of the ITS region sequences ranged from 99 to 100%. The strains were also analyzed by random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD) with 20 arbitrary primers. Twelve primers efficiently amplified the genomic DNA. The number of amplified bands varied depending on the primers used or the strains tested. The average number of polymorphic bands observed per primer was 4.5. The size of polymorphic fragments was obtained in the range of 0.2 to 2.3 kb. These results indicate that the RAPD technique is well suited for detecting the genetic diversity in the S. commune strains tested.
