  • In order to obtain basic informations on establishment of culture system for Cassia tora L. in the southern part of Korea, under vinyl mulching and non mulching conditions, the characters of growth and yield following the difference of fertilization quantity were investigated. All characters, stem length, stem diameter, number of branches, number of pods per plant, pod length, and number of grains per pod, etc., were excellent under the vinyl mulching condition, and of these growth characters, stem diameter, number of pods per plant, and number of grains per pod, etc. were most excellent in the district of N-P$_2$O$_{5}$-K$_2$O=8-6-6Kg /10a. Weight of 1000 grains and seed yield were also high under the vinyl mulching condition, and starting form the district of fertilization quantity N- P$_2$O$_{5}$-K$_2$O=8-6-6Kg /10a, the districts of increasing or decreasing fertilizer tended to be less yield. Also under the vinyl mulching and non mulching, the dispersive analyses of useful characters following the difference of fertilization quantity, were acknowledged to be worth of attention.

  • Saved labor cost, energy conservation, reduced soil erosion, and increase of emergence rate would be expected from no-tillage cultivation of corn. Few research has been reported on the no-tillage effects for waxy corn hybrid. Five waxy com hybrids were tested under conventional and no-tillage practices to investigate responses of early growth, plant characters, ear characters, fresh yield, and grain yield. Emergence rates under no-tillage were lower than under conventional tillage. Plant heights at early growth stages under no-tillage were higher than those under conventional tillage. Plant height under no-tillage was higher than that under conventional tillage. There were no differences between conventional tillage and no-tillage for ear length, number of kernel rows, number of kernels per row, 100 kernels weight, fresh yield, and grain yield. This result indicates that no-tillage practice might be recommended for practical method for waxy com production. Days to tasseling and silking, plant height, ear height, ear length, and number of kernels per row were correlated with fresh and grain yields.

  • This study was conducted to examine the changes in the seed physical characters and germinative properties of three tree species at three different storage times in order to determine the most suitable storage time and condition. Seed physical characters and germinative properties were examined from seeds of Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Zanthoxylum schinifolium and Staphylea bumalda that were stored at -18C for 1, 3 and 10 years, and the growth performance and physiological characters of their seedlings were analyzed. Seed physical characters and germinative properties showed significant differences between three storage times as well as three tree species. Seed moisture content of F rhynchophylla and S. bumalda and seed fresh weight of Z. schinifolium decreased with increase of storage time. Storage time represented negative correlation with moisture content and fresh weight (r = -0.822, P<0.01). Seed percent germination of Z. schinifolium and S. bumalda stored for 3 and 10 years decreased less than 15% and 10.7% respectively. Mean germination times for seed of F. rhynchophylla, Z. schinifolium and S. bumalda were delayed 11.9, 5.7 and 9.7 days after a storage time of 10 years, respectively. However the growth and viability of seedlings didn't show a special pattern for storage time and tree species.
