This study was carried out to investigate change of growth and yield of top part by different harvest date and number in Saururus chinensis. Top part of the first harvest date showed the most effective growth on July 16 and July 31, and that of the second harvest date was greater than that of the as first harvest date. Harvest dates up to July 31 increased yield of marketable leaf and stem, but the later Harvest date decreased yield as low as 41% .Percentage of dry mater was higher as the harvest date was delayed.
In order to obtain information necessary for attaining maximum yield of rice by increasing nitrogen efficiency, effects of top dressing of nitrogen fertilizer at the later part of growing season were investigated and results obtained are summurized as follows: 1. The increased application of nitrogen fertilizer was very effective in increasing leaf areas and net assimilation rate of rice plants. The spikelets number per hill was also increased due to heavy nitrogen fertilizer. 2. The concentrated top dressing at the later part of plant growth apparently increased the crop growth rate at the reproduction stage and ripening stage of rice, respectively. The nitrogen efficiency was greatly improved by the concentrated top nitrogen dressing through the increase of effective tiller number and the improvement of production organ to non productive organ ratio. 3. The concentrated top nitrogen dressing at the later growing season was considered to be one of the most effective methods of fertilizer applications as well as cultivation of fertilizer resistant varieties for the high yield of rice and improving soil fertility.
The study was conducted to find effect of irrigation treatment during growth stage on growth and yield of Paeonia lactiflora Pallas L.. In case of top ground part, growth of irrigation treatment at early growing stage(from May 1 to June 12) was larger(stem length of 79.4cm) or thicker(stem diameter of 6.5mm) than stem length of 13.6∼7.4cm and stem diameter of 0.5mm of natural plot and control. The growth of under ground part, root length(34.0cm) and number of root/plant(43.6ea/plant) in irrigation treatment at early growing stage were relatively larger or more number than that of control, and root yield was gained 2,349kg/10a and increased 13% and 8% compare with natural plot and control, respectively. Commercial ratio of root was higher for irrigation treatment at early growing stage, it was increased by 20% than 1,708kg/10a of natural plot.
This study shows how the growth of the top part of plants cultivated using the single-row strawberry method, with 12 cm plant spacing, as well as that of plants cultivated through conventional planting, is characterized by the presence of many leaves in the first flower cluster harvest. The leaf area and crown diameter were the largest in the 12 cm spacing method. The hight top fresh weight (59.2 g) was detected wen the 12 cm spacing method was used followed by conventional planting and, 9 cm and 6 cm spacing method. The K and Ca contents in the first flower cluster were the highest when the 12 cm spacing method (2.0% and 2.1%, respectively) and conventional planting, (0.42% and 0.86%, respectively) were used, and these values were significantly higher than the K and Ca contents obtained using the other two methods. The N, P, Mg, Fe, and B contents show no significant differences across the planting methods. The sugar content of the first flower cluster fruits was the highest when the 12 cm spacing method was used, while the sugar content of the fourth flower cluster fruits was highest after conventional planting. Firmness was the highest in the first, third, and fourth flower clusters after conventional planting, while no significant differences were observed for the 6 cm, 9 cm, and 12 cm spacing methods. A yield of 25 g or above during November to December was observed to be the highest when the 12 cm spacing method was used, while a yield of 10-16 g was the highest when both the 9 cm and 12 cm spacing methods werw used. The yield of products in January-April was the highest when the 12 cm spacing and conventional planting methods were used, and total product yield was also the highest for these methods. A significant portion of non-marketable products (39 g) was obtained when the conventional planting method was used.

Planting of peony, a perennial herb is usually planted in fall but the planting time can be postponed to next spring for other benefit such as land use, labour diversification and etc. This study was carried out to know the effect of planting time in spring on growth and yield of peony. Sprouting date in first year growth was earlier as planting time was later. Planting on March 10 showed best both top part and root growth and planting after that time resulted in worse growth. In planting on April 10, missing plant rate was 24% and accordingly root yield decreased to 43% comparing with that of March 10. Planting on March 10 resulted in thick and large number of root and so yield per l0a was 635 kg, the highest value among the other planting time in spring. The paeoniflorin content was not different significantly by planting time. These results suggested that March 10 was most appropriate for planting time in spring.

The experiment were carried out to determine the rate of regrowth, the changes of carbohydrates contained in the samples right after cutting, plant part for storage of carbohydtates and top-dressing time of ladino clover and orchardgrass. Plants were grown in the simple growth chamber as well as in the fields. The temperature, light intensity and light period were controlled to be 15-20$^{\circ}$, 4,250 Lux, and 15 hours in the simple growth chamber. The results obtained are as follows ; 1. The period of recovery to initial stands after cutting was about 3 weeks in ladino clover and 4-5 weeks in orchard grass in terms of dry matter and carbohydrates. 2. The content of total water-soluble carbohydrates of plant parts was the hightest in stolon of ladino clover and in sheath of orchardgrass, and the lowest in roots of ladino clover and orchardgrass. 3. Cutting resulted in a temporary decrease of total water-soluble carbohydrates in the shoots. Similar trends were observed when the plants were left intact with top-dressing. 4. The top-dressing applied simultalliousely with the cutting was more effective to stimu1ate regrowth than that applied after cutting, however, both of the simultaneous and after cutting application were still better than application prior to cutting.

Rice yield and protein content have been shown to be highly variable across paddy fields. In order to characterize this spatial variability of rice within a field, the two-year experiments were conducted in 2002 and 2003 in a large-scale rice field of $6,600m^2$ In year 2004, an experiment was conducted to know if prescribed N for site-specific fertilizer management at panicle initiation stage (VRT) could reduce spatial variation in yield and protein content of rice while increasing yield compared to conventional uniform N topdressing (UN, ,33 kg N/ha at PIS) method. The trial field was subdivided into two parts and each part was subjected to UN and VRT treatment. Each part was schematically divided in $10\times10m$ grids for growth and yield measurement or VRT treatment. VRT nitrogen prescription for each grid was calculated based on the nitrogen (N) uptake (from panicle initiation to harvest) required for target rice protein content of $6.8\%$, natural soil N supply, and recovery of top-dressed N fertilizer. The required N uptake for target rice protein content was calculated from the equations to predict rice yield and protein content from plant growth parameters at panicle initiation stage (PIS) and N uptake from PIS to harvest. This model equations were developed from the data obtained from the previous two-year experiments. The plant growth parameters for this calculation were predicted non-destructively by canopy reflectance measurement. Soil N supply for each grid was obtained from the experiment of year 2003, and N recovery was assumed to be $60\%$ according to the previous reports. The prescribed VRT N ranged from 0 to 110kg N/ha with average of 57kg/ha that was higher than 33kg/ha of UN. The results showed that VRT application successfully worked not only to reduce spatial variability of rice yield and protein content but also to increase rough rice yield by 960kg/ha. The coefficient of variation (CV) for rice yield and protein content was reduced significantly to $8.1\%\;and\;7.1\%$ in VRT from $14.6\%\;and\;13.0\%$ in UN, respectively. And also the average protein content of milled rice in VRT showed very similar value of target protein content of $6.8\%$. Although N use efficiency of VRT compared to UN was not quantified due to lack of no N control treatment, the procedure used in this paper for VRT estimation was believed to be reliable and promising method for managing within-field spatial variability of yield and protein content. The method should be received further study before it could be practically used for site-specific crop management in large-scale rice field.

This study was carried out to investigate the variation of growth and yield using different planting densities and vinyl mulching in S. miltiorrhiza cultivation. Top plant growth was observed in the $30{\times}30cm$ planting density of S. miltiorrhiza;, plant height, leaves and branches were larger than in the other treatments. Root length, root diameter, and supporting roots of underground part were increased as planting density was wide, and dry root weight was increased in $30{\times}30cm$. However, yield was highest at 294 kg/10a in the planting density of $30{\times}10cm$. The use of 30-31cm white and black vinyl mulching had no significant effect on the plant height of S. miltiorrhiza, as compared to non-mulching. However, the highest volume of leaves and plant weight was observed in plants using 24.7 black vinyl mulching. Dry underground root weight was highest in black vinyl mulching at 21.7 g compared to 17.0 g for non-mulching. Yield per 10a increased by 28% using black vinyl mulching compared to non-mulching. Based on the results of this study, planting density of $30{\times}10cm$ and black vinyl mulching are the most suitable in the cultivation of S. miltiorrhiza.

The study was carried out to find effects on growth and yield by drought in Paeonia lactiflora Pallas. The water stress treatment was imposed artificially on April 1 to May 30(top part growth high stage), June 1 to July 30(root growth high stage), August 1 to September 29(late growth stage) and control(below 50kPa) in rain shelter. In drought periods of April 1 to May 30, stem length and number of stem were 67.5cm and 10.4 ea/plant. It showed poor growth compared with control, and root length and diameter also decreased to 27.2cm and 24.5mm, respectively. In root yield, drought treatment of June 1 to July 30 showed lower root yield as $1,809kg\;10a^{-1}$, $1,902kg\;10a^{-1}$ for drought period of August 1 to September 29, compared with $2,039kg\;10a^{-1}$ of control, resulting in 11% and 7% reduction, respectively. Optimum irrigation times (50kPa) was 17 days after continuos rain-off in Spring(April 1 to May 30), 9 days in summer(June 1 to July 30). It could be estimated that effective irrigation point was at least 13 days in after August(Aug. 1 to Sep. 29).
This experiment was carried out to obtain some information about the growth habit and morphological and anatomical characteristics of fasciated soybean, var. Buchai-kong. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Main stern of fasciated soybean, var. Buchai-kong was gradually broadened and became flat, on which leaves emerged irregularly compared with normal soybean, var. Danyeop-kong. The number of leaves on main stern was more in Buchai-kong, but the total number of leaves per plant was not considerably different each other. 2. The degree of fasciation (max./min. in diameter at the broadened part) in main stern of Buchai-kong was about 3.1, and was related to the amount of growth of main stern and branches of Danyeop-kong. Stern fasciation types found in Buchai-kong were linear (the most common) and bifurcated with regard to branching of main stern tip. 3. The number of branches per plant was much less in Buchai-kong than in Danyeop-kong. There were fas-ciated branches and fasciated petiole in Buchai-kong. 4. About 75 percent of pods of Buchai-kong were concentrated on the top of stern, which showed strong pod clustering. 5. Seed yield per plant of Buchai-kong was about 60 percent of that of Danyeop-kong, and the decrease in seed yield was mostly affected by the decrease in seed weight and seeds per pod. 6. The number of vascular bundles of transection of mature stern was more in Buchai-kong, but Danyeop-kong developed the better vascular bundle.
