The effect of cattle manure with the rates of 2 and 4 ton $l0a^{-1}$ for winter rye and summer corn cultivation, respectively, on the dry matter (DM) yield and nitrogen (N) uptake were investigated during successive threeyear conversion period from paddy to upland condition in paddy field. The changes in soil properties and soil N supplying capacity during repetitive manure application were a1so examined. Growth and DM yield of upland forage crops, especially. winter rye were hindered highly by poor soil condition in the first year after conversion from paddy to upland condition, so apparent recovery of cattle manure N by crops was very low in the first conversion year. But, DM yield and N uptake of upland forage crops were increased linearly by accumulative input of cattle manure along with mineral N enrichment in soil, which also increased apparent recovery of cattle manure-No It seemed that those increases were mainly due to the improvement of soil properties such as soil mineral N, soil organic matter (soil carbon), potentially mineralizable N and bulk density by accumulative input of cattle manure rather than the increase of soil N supply according to accumulative conversion period from paddy to upland condition. It was derived that conversion period from paddy to upland condition over 2 years is needed to obtain proper DM yield in paddy field and accumulative inputs of cattle manure during the conversion period is more influential to the continuous increment of DM yield and N uptake of upland crop as well as of potential N supplying capacity of soil.
This study was conducted to obtain the basic information for the salt stress of Italian Ryegrass. Fourteen cultivars including 7 diploid and 7 tetraploid were subjected to eight levels of NaCl treatments during germination and early seedling stages. Germination percentage decreased remarkably over 300mM of NaCl concentration. The NaCl concentration that inhibited germination of 50% of the viable seeds in the cultivars was 344mM. The decreasing degree of germination percentage was higher in tetraploid type than in diploid type. The varietal difference of germination percentage was shown to be very conspicuous as the NaCl concentration increased. Top dry weight in 166 mM NaCl was decreased by 50% compared with that of control. Inhibition of NaCl appeared to be more in early seedling stage than in germination stage. Top dry weight of cultivars in NaCl stress was not related with germination capacity. Root dry weight in 148mM NaCl decreased by 50% compared with that of control. Root dry weight of cultivars was significantly correlated with top dry weight in NaCl treatment. Top dry weight and root dry weight was higher in diploid type than in tetraploid type at each 8 levels of NaCl concentration. Total chlorophyll content increased with the increase of NaCl concentration and the degree of increase in chlorophyll a was higher than that in chlorophyll b. Chlorophyll a was higher in tetraploid type than in diploid type. But chlorophyll b was higher in diploid type than in tetraploid type. There were significant correlation between chlorophyll a and top dry weight of cultivars over 150mM of NaCl concentration. Free proline content accumulated remarkably in NaCl treatment compared with control and was not difference between diploid type and tetraploid type. Free proline content of cultivars was not related with top dry weight in NaCl treatment.
This experiment was conducted to study the effexts of seeding time and varieties on yield components, protein and oil content of soybean. Four varieties of soybean(Chung Buk Baek, Iksan, Keum doo, Chang dan Baek mok)wrere applied in this experiment and were seeded at May 15th, June 5th, and June 25th, the results obtained are as follows. 1.When the soybean was seeded at May 15th, stem height, stem diameter and number of nodes on main stem came to an end about 70days after seeding. In case that the seeding time was delayed 20 days and 40 days from May15th, respectively, the time to be almost cimpleted the growth of the characteristics was shortened 10days and 20days during ther debelopment. Among varieties, Chung Buk Beak grew faster than any other varieries. 2.When seeded at May 15th, the plants produced many pods, and had high proportion of branch pods. When seeded late, the proportion of branch pods were low. Branches had large proportion of empty pods and one grain pods, but on main stem, the proportion of two grain pods and three grain pods were more than that of branch. Among varieties, Chung Buk Baek had high proportion of two and three grain pods, Keum doo and Chang dan Baek mok had high proportion of one and two grain pods, and Iksan had high proportion of one and three grain pods. 3.Tields were less by the late seeding.The proportion if decreased yields to the yields when seeded at May 15th, that of Chung Buk Baek was decreased 6% when seeded at June 5th and 14% when seeded at June 25th, that of Ik san was decreased 9% and 17%, that of Keum doo decreased 15% and 26% and that of Chang dan Baek mik decreased 18% and 27%. 4.Protein content was highest in the plots seeded on May 15th, but oil content was highest in the plots seeded in June 25th. Among varietiesm Xhang dan Baek mok had the highest proportion of protein content and Iksan had the highest of oil content.
Alfalfa field was established to investigate seasonal changes of nodule activity and contents of carbohydrates, and nitrogen, and also to examine their relationships in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.). Periodical sampling of alfalfa in cutting and uncutting plots was collected to measure growth of plants, development and activity of nodule, and content of carbohydrates and nitrogen in the third year following year of establishment. Nodule activity of alfalfa root appeared to early April, increased to a maximum in beginning of June (flowering stage), and then decreased and generally remained low from late-July to mid-August, and again increased from early September, and then decreased and generally remained low for the rest of growing season. After flowering, nodule weight tended to decrease slowly throughout the growing season. Until flowering stage, increase of dry weight was closely related with that of nodule activity. But after flowering the curve pattern of dry weight did not fit to that of nodule activity due to decrease of supply of assimilate to nodule, drought, and high temperature. Total nonstructural carbohydrates in roots were closely correlated with nodule weight and nodule activity. While, nitrogen contents in leaves were closely correlated with nodule weight and nodule activity. Also cutting on July prevented unnessesary losses of respiration during summer to provide rapid recovery of nodule activity.
This study was carried out to find out the difference of ripening and growth characteristics among the different florets in same panicle. There were 2 different transplanting date (May 25 and June 10) and 6 varieties were used. Physiological ripening period, ripening speed, 1000 grain weight, germination speed and grain quality were studied among the different florets (1, 5 and 8 days after heading) in same panicle. Physiological ripening period was long in late transplanting, late flowering floret, and late varieties by 3-9 days in Japonica. Ripening speed and 1000 grain weight were high in early transplanting and early flowering florets. There was positive correlation among the ripening speed, 1000 grain weight and a average temperature but negative correlation between the ripening and physiological ripening period. Germination speed was excellent in early flowering floret after heading. There was difference in amylose content within varieties and different flowering grains and there was significant correlation between grain quality and meteorological factors in some varieties.
Results obtained from this study conducted to find the effect of wind-break net on reducing cold wind damage in the eastern coastal cold wind damaged area are summarized as follows. The rice critical safe heading date was up to Aug. 10 in the eastern coastal area, which the frequency of gale Aug. 10 to Sep. 10 is high. The frequencies of westries and cold wind from sea were 25%, respectively, in this area. The effects of wind-break net on reducing wind verocity were 26.9, 34,6% with raising air temperature of 0.4-0.7$^{\circ}C$ and water temperature of 0.3-0.5$^{\circ}C$. The effect of wind-break net was up to 10 time's distance of wind-break net's height from wind-break net. The installation of wind-break inhanced to rice growth, so showed the heading date earlier by 2-5days and increased culm length, no.of panicles per hill and no. of spiklets per panicle. The yield decrease in this area was due to sterilization, poor ripening and light 1,000 grain weight. The yields showed 20-28% increase by installation of wind-break net. The effect of wind-break net was most in the installation plot with wind-break net against cold wind from sea and westries installed in the panicle formation stage.
Five soybean varieties of two early maturing; Karikei 73 and SS79168, and three late maturing; Tohoku 76, Baegunkong and Jangbaegkong, were used and evaluated in the study, Of the varieties examined, Karikei 73 was characterized by the delayed leaf senescence, To investigate the periodical trends of sugars in plant organs and their roles to the nitrogen fixing activity of root nodules, the concentrations of reducing and non-reducing sugar in root and nodules during the grain filling period were measured. The concentration of non-reducing sugar in roots was not changed up to the stage of R6 for all of the varieties but it decreased rapidly thereafter for the varieties except Karikei 73. No such rapid decrease in the concentration of non-reducing sugar in the roots was observed for Karikei 73 having the characteristics of delayed leaf senescence. The concentration of reducing sugar in the root nodules was not greatly changed for all of the varieties up to the stage of R6 regardless of the earliness of varieties but increased temporarily at R6.5 when there was a rapid decrease in ARA. The phenomenon explained the fact that nitrogen fixing activities were controlled not only by supplying sugars as the source of energy for nitrogen fixation, but also by the need for fixed nitrogen of the plant. The concentration of non-reducing sugar in root nodules also increased up to the stage of R6-R6.5 but decreased at R7, which could apply the same explanation as in the concentration of reducing sugar of the root nodules.

This research investigates the historical changes of the educational system for the clothing departments at vocational high schools. According to the growth of the fashion industry, employment potential in the clothing departments of the vocational high schools, numerical changes in the educational statistics, and curriculums were investigated by papers, reports, and statistic data. The statistic data were derived from the 'Center Educational Statistics and Information', 'School Information' (Hak-gyo Alimi), 'Korean Statistical Information Services' and internet home pages of vocational high schools. Technical service workers that graduate from clothing departments and vocational high schools have limited competitiveness in a thriving fashion industry field. Highly developed fashion industries require more professional workers in fashion design, fashion marketing, and fashion materials. Compared to 1994, when 35 classes were conducted in 5 vocational high schools, 69 classes are now conducted at 15 schools. They have over 2,000 students and produce over 600 graduates. However, 222 credits of the $1^{st}$ curriculum in 1958 went down to 82 credits in the 2007 revised curriculum to complete the credits of clothing departments. The 15 courses of the 1st curriculum fell to 5 courses in the 2007 revised curriculum on the number of major subjects. It is a fundamental problem that major courses in clothing education have been excessively reduced despite the demand for of highly specialized workers in the fashion industry. In the view of operating conditions of those schools, there were several problems such as the wide gaps in the curriculum, limited equipment, the supply of teachers, and counseling on the choice of college or a career. In conclusion, the following measures are required: 1) the increase of complement credits in major subjects and renovation of curriculum, 2) national substantial support to change the social circumstance concerning vocational education and occupational consciousness, 3) operation of credit approving systems in universities and colleges for students that have completed the same courses at vocational high schools, 4) designing realistic programs for vocational education and cooperation systems with corporate enterprises.
Projected increases in atmospheric $CO_2$ concentration ([$CO_2$]) and temperature ($T_a$) have the potential to alter in rice growth and yield. However, little is known about whether $T_a$ warming with elevated [$CO_2$] modify plant architecture. To better understand the vertical profiles of leaf area index (LAI) and the flag leaf morphology of rice grown under elevated $T_a$ and [$CO_2$], we conducted a temperature gradient field chamber (TGC) experiment at Gwangju, Korea. Rice (Oryza sativa L. cv. Dongjin1ho) was grown at two [$CO_2$] [386 (ambient) vs 592 ppmV (elevated)] and three $T_a$ regimes [26.8 ($\approx$ambient), 28.1 and $29.8^{\circ}C$] in six independent field TGCs. While elevated $T_a$ did not alter total LAI, elevated [$CO_2$] tended to reduce (c. 6.6%) the LAI. At a given canopy layer, the LAI was affected neither by elevated [$CO_2$] nor by elevated $T_a$, allocating the largest LAI in the middle part of the canopy. However, the fraction of LAI distributed in a higher and in a lower layer was strongly affected by elevated $T_a$; on average, the LAI distributed in the 75-90 cm (and 45-60 cm) layer of total LAI was 9.4% (and 35.0%), 18.8% (25.9%) and 18.6% (29.2%) in ambient $T_a$, $1.3^{\circ}C$ and $3.0^{\circ}C$ above ambient $T_a$, respectively. Most of the parameters related to flag leaf morphology was negated with elevated [$CO_2$]; there were about 12%, 5%, 7.5%, 15% and 21% decreases in length (L), width (W), L:W ratio, area and mass of the flag leaf, respectively, at elevated [$CO_2$]. However, the negative effect of elevated [$CO_2$] was offset to some extent by $T_a$ warming. All modifications observed were directly or indirectly associated with either stimulated leaf expansion or crop phenology under $T_a$ warming with elevated [$CO_2$]. We conclude that plant architecture and flag leaf morphology of rice can be modified both by $T_a$ warming and elevated [$CO_2$] via altering crop phenology and the extent of leaf expansion.

The purpose of this study was to identify mungbean (Vigna radiata L.) cultivars with appropriate characteristics for labor saving culture (whole crop feeding and combine harvesting), and to investigate seed quality in the southern South Korea. Cultivar Dahyeon exhibited strong lodging resistance, excellent disease tolerance, and greater pod numbers per plant resulting in higher yield. Cultivar Owool and Keumseong, the two most common mungbean cultivars in Korea, exhibited lower yield than Dahyeon due to weaker disease tolerance or lower pod numbers per plant. Cultivar Samgang demonstrated higher seed starch content, Jangan, Nampyeong, and Keumseong exhibited higher crude protein content, and Sohyeon exhibited higher vitexin and isovitexin contents. However, no statistical differences were found among the cultivars in crude fat content. Unsaturated fatty acid ranged from 51.8 to 57.2%, with saturated fatty acid ranging from 36.2 to 40.3%. We detected five unsaturated fatty acids including linoleic acid (36.1 to 38.6%), linolenic acid (10.3 to 14.7%), and oleic acid (2.7 to 4.6%), and seven saturated fatty acids including palmitic acid (28.7 to 30.9%), stearic acid (2.9 to 4.1%), and arachidic acid (1.5 to 3.7%). There were significant differences between the cultivars in amylogram properties of seeds: the Nampyeong cultivar exhibited a lower gelatinization temperature; Dahyeon was higher in peak viscosity and breakdown; and Sohyeon, Nampyeong, and Dahyeon were lower in setback.
