Grouting technique is frequently used where a tunnel structure is passing through the shallow overburden area or where the thickness of hard rock above the tunnel is rather thin. However, engineering background on design process of the grout reinforcement does not seem to be fully understood until now. Mechanics of composite material is, therefore, introduced in this study to investigate the orthotropic material properties of the composites containing soil(or rock) and grouting material. These orthotropic material properties can be used to represent the reinfocement effects quantitatively. The model developed in this study is next applied to a typical tunnel structure and the grouting effect is analyzed numerically. The idea used in this study can be expanded to a situation where a pipe roofing or a forepoling technique is adopted and a simplified design procedure, similar to the model model introduced in this study, can be developed.
Water glass chemical grouts are primarily used in ground injection projects. Natural and Durable Stabilizer (NDS), Space Grout Rocket (SGR), and other similar materials composing of inorganic accelerating agents with ultra fine cement have been gaining popularity as ground improvement material in South Korea. However, there are questions as to grouting results and environmental issues caused by NDS grout. This study uses the injection method in mudstone embarkment to evaluate the differences in strength, permeability, and optimum injection volume through the use of uniaxial and triaxial compression tests and fish poison tests for NDS and SGR materials. After 28 days, results showed SGR and NDS to have a 50% increase in strength and 50% decrease in permeability with the proper injection rate at 50%.

In this study, a steel pipe type rockbolt manufactured from special material was developed which has high strength and lightweight characteristics. Achievement of grout filling between rockbolt and hole wall was investigated through grout injection tests. Yield force of the developed rockbolt was also examined through tensile tests, which was compared with that of the deformed bar type rockbolt. In addition, the strength and elongation properties of the developed rockbolt were investigated through pull-out tests at three domestic sites showing different RMR classes. It is finally supposed that the developed rockbolt can be suitable for the permanent tunnel support because it has high strength and high durability rather than deformed bar type rockbolt.

Grouting is frequently used before the construction of subsea tunnels to mitigate problems that can occur in weak ground zones such as joints, faults or unconsolidated settlements during construction. The grout material injected into rock mass often flows through the discontinuities present in the host rock and hence, joint properties such as its distribution, roughness and thickness greatly affect the properties of grouting-improved rocks. The grouting-improved zones near subsea tunnels are also subjected to high water pressures that can cause long-term weathering in the form of changes in grout microstructure and crack formation and lead to subsequent changes in ground properties. Therefore, an assessment method is needed to accurately measure changes in the grouting-improved zones near subsea tunnels. In this study, the elastic wave propagation characteristics in grouting-improved rocks were tested for various axial stress levels, curing time, joint roughness and thickness conditions under laboratory conditions and the results were compared with wave velocity standards in different Korean rock mass classification systems to provide a basis for inferring improvement in grouted rock-mass.
Portland cement and sodium silicate are widely used as the main components of the injection, which are used to prevent flow and improve ground condition. The main problem of the injection material is the leaching of the sodium hydroxite and silicate due to the limited reaction with the cement. This paper studies the effect of cement hydration retarder on the compressive strength of the sodium silicate - cement gel. A series of tests, including digital-type testing machine, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope are performed. Results clearly demonstrate that the sodium tripolyphosphate, which is the cement hydration retarder in the test, significantly improves the initial strength of the homogel.
The Cement-Asphalt Mortar is a mixture of cement and asphalt emulsion, and is utilized as a grouting material for the railway track which is used to fill under-slab space so as to provide a stabilized track support and a tool for adjustment of track level. In addition, the cement-asphalt mortar is unique in that it can provide more resiliency to the track so that one can expect the impact mitigation. To develop the cement-asphalt mortar suitable for the requirements for track grouting material, this study have selected several mixture proportions which can satisfy those requirements and minimize the material segregation, and the properties of those mixtures, such as flowability(flow time), strength and the resistance to freezing-thawing have been tested. According to the test results, the cement-asphalt mortar well satisfies the requirements and it is found that the properties of the cement-asphalt mortar is suitable for the application to the railway track.

The grouting method is widely used as the impermeable effect and ground reinforcement in construction. But, it has a problem that cement and grout material are not mixed well in the injection tip equipment and an opposite flow and interception state of the chemical grouting is happened. so, continuous work is difficult. McG method installed a special grouting and device, made possible go well mixing of grouting material and prevent flowing backward and block of nozzle also diversify powder rate of cement that is grouting material to select sutible material in layer conditions. YSS that lowered $Na_2O$ influencing durability and circumstance is developed by gel-forming reaction material. so eco-circumstance and durability is increased by minimizing dissolution of underground water. In this study, it is assumed that seepage state of the injection material using a special injection tip equipment and a unconfined compressive strenth by mixing a various injection material of various. And it is confirmed that strenth increase effect and permeable decrease of the improved body through the test execution and field execution.
This study presented the characteristics and additive effects of the grout with mixing ratio for developing of high-efficiency grouting technology under high depth conditions. The laboratory investigation were conducted with Portland cement (OPC) and micro cement (S8000-E) including viscosity experiments, particle size analysis experiments, Gel-Time experiments and uniaxial compressive strength experiments. As a result of the viscosity experiment, it was shown that OPC is advantageous in terms of viscosity, but S8000-E is suitable when considering the passage of rock joint intervals through particle size analysis. The Gel-Time experiment shows that it is not that difficult with injection as a grout material even when silica fume (SF) was applied. The strength of the cured material is improved as increase in the content of silica fium (SF). Within the range of the study, the optimal mixing ratio obtained through various experiments is S8000-E, w/c=70%, silica fium (SF)=6%, and 7 days.

Excessive inflow of groundwater during tunnel excavation not only affects the stability and constructability of the tunnel, but is also one of the main causes of ground settlement due to groundwater level drawdown. The most commonly applied measure against excessive groundwater inflow during tunnel excavation in soil or fractured zone is to reduce the ground permeability coefficient by injecting grout material. Generally, the grouting area is assumed to be same as the plastic zone that occurs during tunnel excavation, but injecting grout material in the area of plastic zone is appropriate only for reinforcement grouting. In order to determine the thickness of cutoff grouting, the amount of reduction in the water permeability coefficient due to the application of cutoff grouting must be considered. In this study, a method for estimating the range of cutoff grouting considering the reduction in permeability coefficient was mathematically derived and evaluated through computer numerical analysis.
Grouting has been practiced as a reliable technique to improve the mechanical properties of rock mass. But, the study of ground improvement by greeting is rare especially in jointed rock mass. In this study, joint compression test and direct shear test were performed on pure rock joint and cement milk grouted rock joint to examine the grouting effect on the property of rock joint. In the pure rock joint compression test, joint closure varied non-linearly with normal stress. But after cement milk grouting, the normal deformation characteristics of the joint was linear at the low normal stress level. As normal stress increased. deformation of the sample rapidly increased due to the stress concentration at the joint asperities. Peak shear strength of the grouted joint in low normal stress was higher than that of non-grouted joint due to the cohesion, decreased exponetially as the grout thickness increased. Thus after cement milk grouting, the failure envelope modified to a curve that has cohesion due to grout material hydration with decreased friction angle. Shear stiffness and peak dilation angle of the grouted joint decreased as the grout thickness increased. The peak shear strength from the direct shear test on grouted rock joint was represented by an empirical equation as a fuction of grout thickness and roughness mean amplitude.
