  • A total of 448 male students(220 college-bound students, 228 vocational students) were surveyed through a self-administered questionnaire in Daegu from November to December 2003. This study aimed to identify the pattern in cigarette smoking according to personality type and related factors to smoking. Among respondents, $30.8\%$ of college-bound students and $69.3\%$ of vocational students have ever smoked. The rate of current smoking was $9.2\%$ in the college-bound students and $56.6\%$ in the vocational students. Smoking experience and current smoking status was significantly associated in psychotic personality in the college-bound students and in extroversive and psychotic personality in the vocational student group. The logistic regression analysis revealed that smoking of parents, siblings, and friends were significant variables on the current smoking in the college-bound students, and smoking of friends and extroversive and psychotic personality in the vocational students. As a results, this study suggest that those students who have the factors identified in this study regarded as having the potential to start smoking, and they can be subject to anti-smoking programs to help them quell their desire for smoking or delay.

  • CableLAB published DOCSIS 3.0 Specifications to supply broadband access to homes and small businesses. The primary technique of DOCSIS 3.0 Specification is channel bonding which provides cable operators with a flexible way to significantly increase up/downstream speeds. In this paper, we propose the upstream scheduler that serves channel bonding. Proposed scheduler consists of two sub-scheduler: bonding group scheduler and channel scheduler. Also, we propose three scheduling algorithms to allocate request bandwidth of CM to each bonding channel: equivalent scheduling algorithm, current request-based scheduling algorithm, and last grant-based scheduling algorithm. In order to evaluate the performance of these algorithms and DOCSIS 3.0 MAC protocol, we develop the DOCSIS 3.0 simulator with the network simulator, OPNET, to model DOCSIS network, CMTS, and CM. Our results show that equivalent scheduling algorithm is superior to others in the view of transmission delay and throughput and DOCSIS 3.0 protocol provides higher throughput than pre-DOCSIS 3.0 protocol.

  • PURPOSE. To assess the degree of conversion (DC) and light irradiance delivered to light-cured and dual-cured cements by application of different light sources through various types of monolithic computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) materials. MATERIALS AND METHODS. RelyX Ultimate Clicker light-cured and dual-cured resin cement specimens with 1.5-mm thicknesses (n=300, 10/group), were placed under four types of crystalline core structure (Vita Enamic, Vita Suprinity, GC Ceresmart, Degudent Prettau Anterior). The specimens were irradiated for 40 seconds with an LED Soft-Start or pulse-delay unit or 20 seconds with a QTH unit. DC ratios were determined by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) after curing the specimen at 1 day and 1 month. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test (for paired comparison) and the Kruskal-Wallis H test (for multiple comparison), with a significance level of P<.05. RESULTS. DC values were the highest for RelyX Ultimate Clicker light-cure specimens polymerized with the LED Soft-Start unit. The combination of the Vita Suprinity disc and RelyX Ultimate Clicker dual-cure resin cement yielded significantly higher values at both timepoints with all light units (all, P<.05). CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of this study, we conclude that the DC of RelyX Ultimate Clicker dual-cure resin cement was improved significantly by the use of Vita Suprinity and the LED Soft-Start light unit. We strongly recommend the combined use of an LED light unit and dual-cure luting cement for monolithic ceramic restorations.

  • Microwave Otters are essential device in modem wireless systems. A compact dimension BPF(Band-pass Filter) for IEEE 802.11a WLAN service is realized using LTCC multi-layer process. To extrude 2-stage band-pass equivalent circuit, band-pass and J-inverter transform applied to Chebyshev low-pass prototype filter. Because parallel L-C resonator is complicate and hard to control the inductor characteristics in high frequency, the shorted $\lambda/4$ stripline is selected for the resonator structure. The passive element is located in the different layers connected by conventional via structure and isolated by inner GND. The dimension of fabricated stacked band-pass filter which is composed of six layers, is $2.51\times2.27\times1.02\;mm^3$. The measured filter characteristics show the insertion loss of -2.25 dB, half-power bandwidth of 220 MHz, attenuation at 5.7 GHz of -32.25 dB and group delay of 0.9 ns at 5.25 GHz.

  • Recently, cache sharing methods have been studied in order to effectively reply to user requests in mobile P2P networks. In this paper, we propose a cache sharing scheme based on a cluster considering the peer connectivity in mobile P2P networks. The proposed scheme shares caches by making a cluster that consists of peers preserving the connectivity among them for a long time. The proposed scheme reduces data duplication to efficiently use the cache space in a cluster. The cache space is divided into two parts with a data cache and a temporary cache for a cache space. It is possible to reduce the delay time when the cluster topology is changed or the cache data is replaced utilizing a temporary cache. The proposed scheme checks the caches of peers in a route to a cluster header and the caches of one-hop peers in order to reduce the communication cost. It is shown through performance evaluation that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes.

  • It is well recognized that ultrasonic technique is one of the most common and reliable nondestructive evaluation techniques for quantitative estimation of defects in structures. For the quantitative and accurate estimation of internal defects. the characteristics of scattered ultrasonic wavefields must be understood. In this study. the scattered near-field and far-field due to a circular cavity embedded in infinite media subjected to incident SH-waves were calculated by the boundary element method. The frequency response of the scattered ultrasonic far-field was transformed into the time-domain signal by obtaining its inverse Fourier transform. It was found that the amplitude of time-domain signal decreases and its time delay increases as the distance between the detecting point of ultrasonic scattered field and the center of internal cavity increases.

  • Guided waves have shown a great potential for structural health monitoring (SHM) applications. In contrast to traditional non-destructive testing (NDT) methodologies, a key element of SHM approaches is the high process of automation. The monitoring system should decide autonomously whether the host structure is intact or not. A basic requirement for the realization of such a system is that the sensors are permanently installed on the host structure. Thus, baseline measurements become available that can be used for diagnostic purposes, i.e., damage detection, localization, etc. This paper contributes to guided wave-based inspection in anisotropic materials for SHM purposes. Therefore, computational strategies are described for both, the solution of the complex equations for wave propagation analysis in composite materials based on exact elasticity theory and the popular global matrix method, as well as the underlying equations of two active damage localization algorithms for anisotropic structures. The result of the global matrix method is an angular and frequency dependent wave velocity characteristic that is used subsequently in the localization procedures. Numerical simulations and experimental investigations through time-delay measurements are carried out in order to validate the proposed theoretical model. An exemplary case study including the calculation of dispersion curves and damage localization is conducted on an exemplary unidirectional composite structure where the ultrasonic signals processed in the localization step are simulated with the spectral element method. The proposed study demonstrates the capabilities of the proposed algorithms for accurate damage localization in anisotropic structures.

  • In this paper, we propose a session management and control architecture for N-Screen services, which enable users to change devices and transfer contents among user's devices during service by session transfer and split. In N-Screen services, users may have multiple devices with different attribute such as screen resolution, CPU capability and access network interfaces. Also, since users may change devices during service, or one user may use multiple stream, N-Screen services need to enable the user to share and transfer contents across N-Screen devices. We introduce the management and control servers to provide session split over user multiple devices and session continuity while changing device. Furthermore, the proposed architecture provides the device capabilities aware session continuity. In addition, the proposed scheme minimizes the session transfer delay and content server processing load. We present results that show the effectiveness and usefulness of proposed architecture.

  • This paper proposes a virtual mobile ad-hoc network (VMANET) model that automatically divides heterogeneous mobile devices of a MANET into a number of network groups depending on the communication capacity(data rate) of different network operational models such as IEEE 802.11g, IEEE 802.11b, and Frequency Hopping. In addition, it supports a distinct routing protocol for each network group of VMANETs, resulting in running multiple routing protocols concurrently on different groups of VMANETs. To reduce the network congestion and improve the network load balance, a default MANET gateway is configured in each VMANET and these gateways are responsible for integrating the MANET and IP networks. Experiment results show that the proposed model outperforms the conventional IMANET by significantly increasing throughput and reducing network congestion and network delay.
