Quantitative assessment of groundwater level change under extreme event is important since groundwater system is directly affected by drought. Substantially, groundwater level fluctuation reveals to be delayed from several hours to few months after raining according to the aquifer characteristics. Groundwater system in Jeju Island would be also affected by drought and almost all regions were suffered from a severe drought during summer season (July to September) in 2013. To estimate the effect of precipitation to groundwater system, monthly mean groundwater levels in 2013 compared to those in the past from 48 monitoring wells belong to be largely affected by rainfall(Dr) over Jeju Island were analyzed. Mean groundwater levels during summer season recorded 100 mm lowered of precipitation compared to the past 30 years became decreased to range from 2.63 m to 5.42 m in southern region compared to the past and continued to December. These decreasing trends are also found in western(from -1.21 m to -4.06 m), eastern(-0.91 m to -3.24 m), and northern region(from 0.58 m to -4.02 m), respectively. Moreover, the response of groundwater level from drought turned out to be -3.80 m in August after delaying about one month. Therefore, severe drought in 2013 played an important role on groundwater system in Jeju Island and the effect of drought for groundwater level fluctuation was higher in southern region than other ones according to the regional difference of precipitation decrease.

Geochemical and isotope studies on the groundwater system of the Youngcheon area were carried out. Most groundwaters belong to Ca-$HCO_3$ and Ca-$SO_4$ types and some groundwaters belong to Na-$HCO_3$ type. Geochemical characteristics of these groundwaters were mainly affected by their basement rocks around the boreholes. High $SO_4$ content of groundwater is the result of reaction with sulfate or sulfide minerals in the host rock. Ca was originated from the carbonate minerals in the sedimentary rock. After the groundwater was saturated with calcite, the Na-$HCO_3$ type groundwaters were evolved by the reaction with plagioclase for a relatively long residence time. This explanation was supported by low tritium contents of Na-$HCO_3$ type groundwaters. ${\delt}a^{18}O$ and ${\delta}D$ data indicate that the groundwaters are of meteoric water origin and there was no difference between the various types of waters. Grondwaters from the boreholes BH-1, BH-9 and BH-12 showed the geochemical and isotopic characteristics of deep groundwater. Most borehole groundwaters except them did not show the systematic geochemical variations with sampling depth indicating that the shallow and deep groundwaters were mixed with each other throughout the study area. The results of water quality analysis indicate that the study area is highly contaminated by the introduction of agricultural sewage.
This study was objected to identify the temporal and spatial variations oi groundwater quality and contamination using monthly groundwater monitoring data collected from 30 wells in Daejung watershed, Jeju Island. Water samples were analyzed for major cations. anions, and environmental isotopes including $^{18}0-H_2$O,$^{2}H-H_2$O and$^{15}$ N-NO$_3$The groundwater represented mostly Na(Mg)-HCO$_3$ type, with local change toward Ca-HCO$_3$ type and Na-Cl type. Groundwater quality depends upon various factors such as the local groundwater flowpaths, input of surface contaminants with recharge events, and sea-water intrusion along the coastal area. Nitrate contamination changed temporally according to recharge events and spatially. $\delta$$^{18}$ O-$\delta$$_2$H data for monthly sampled groundwaters showed distinctive clusters, implying that groundwater was originated from independent precipitation, and subsequently recharged very fash. Using$\delta$$^{15}$ N-NO$_3$ data, major sources of nitrate and its areas of influence could be identified. The areas under influence of livestock farms showed relatively high NO$_3$-N concentrations and$\delta$$^{15}$ N values higher than 5$\textperthousand$. The agricultural areas in southeastern part showed very high concentrations of NO$_3$-N with the $\delta$$^{15}$ N values of lower than 5$\textperthousand$.
Hydrogeochemical characteristics of groundwater from a limestone and granite area were studied in the Hwanggangri district, where important fluorite ore deposits are distributed. The geochemical properties of groundwater from limestone and granite are commonly characterized as Ca$^{2+}$-HCO$_3\;^-$ and (Ca$^{2+}$+Na$^+$)-HCO$_3\;^-$ type, respectively. Groundwater, contaminated by mine drainage water from the neighboring ore deposits, has not been observed yet. However, fluoride in groundwater exceeding the drinking water permission level is found in the wells located in a Cretaceous granite area. The concentrations of F in the groundwater show a positive relationship with the values of Na, HCO$_3$, Li and pH. This may suggest that the groundwater come from the decomposition of fluoride-bearing silicate minerals within highly differentiated granitic rocks.

This study is objected to assess the recharges of phreatic aquifers in the south Korea. The water level data of the national ground-water monitoring network were analysed by PCA(Principal Component Analysis), and classified to 8 types. The recharge were estimated by ‘water-level change method’ on basis of the classified types and compared with the previous methods(hydrograph separation methods) on basis of 4 river basins. The recharge were various type by type and site by site. But the recharge estimated by this study were consistent with that of the other studies.

The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of surfactant on the rate of NAPLs(non-aqueous phase liquids) solubilization. The experimental variables were surfactant type, NAPLs type and water type. The main experimental designs were consists of two phases. The solubilization rate is sensitive to surfactant type based on this test. Used aqueous surfactants were solubilized and removed 72.77 to 89.90% of toluene, PCE(tetrachloroethylene) from the contaminated water during the test, respectively. T60 has higher and stable recovery ratio than SDS in surfactant type but, the micelle of the T60 is more weaker than that of SDS based on this study's results. And the solubilization rate in used water type was almost same.(deionized water, surface water).

Geochemical characteristics of groundwater in Goryeong area, based on chemical analyses of 34 water samples and mineralogical study of rocks, differ among Nagdong, Hasandong and Jinju formations and Goryeong granite in relation to mineralogical compositions of the rocks. Concentrations of most solutes are higher in groundwater of the sedimentary formations than in that of granite. Ca$\^$2+/ in the sedimentary groundwaters results mainly from reaction of CO$_2$-charged water with calcite and weathered plagioclase. Average groundwater in the Jinju formation is oversaturated with respect to calcite. Major types of groundwaters are hard Ca(HCO$_3$)$_2$ and CaSO$_4$with hardness of 155 mg/1 for Nagdong formation, 150 mg/1 for Hasandong formation and 140 mg/1 for Jinju formation whereas it is soft Ca(HCO$_3$)$_2$with hardness of 90 mg/1 for Goryeong granite. Ca(HCO$_3$)$_2$type resole from dissolution of calcite and plagiodase while CaSO$_4$type results from dissolution of pyrite and partly from domestic pollutants. CaSO$_4$type may indicate that the sedimentary groundwaters are more evolved geochemically than the granitic groundwater, but it is not obvious because the type might be affected by the dissolution of pyrite and domestic pollutions. Prite is expected to occur as a stable sulfide in the gray∼dark gray arkosic sandstones formed under reducing environment.
Batch sorption experiments were performed to remove the uranium (U) in groundwater by using the bamboo charcoal. For 2 kinds of commercialized bamboo charcoals in Korea, the U removal efficiency at various initial U concentrations in water were investigated and the optimal sorption conditions to apply the bamboo charcoal were determined by the batch experiments with replicate at different pH, temperature, and reaction time conditions. From results of adsorption batch experiments, the U removal efficiency of the bamboo charcoal ranged from 70 % to 97 % and the U removal efficiency for the genuine groundwater of which U concentration was 0.14 mg/L was 84 %. The high U removal efficiency of the bamboo charcoal maintained in a relatively wide range of temperatures ($10{\sim}20^{\circ}C$) and pHs (5 ~ 9), supporting that the usage of the bamboo charcoal is available for U contaminated groundwater without additional treatment process in field. Two typical sorption isotherms were plotted by using the experimental results and the bamboo charcoal for U complied with the Langmuir adsorption property. The maximum adsorption concentration ($q_m:mg/g$) of A type and C type bamboo charcoal in the Langmuir isotherm model were 200.0 mg/g and 16.9 mg/g, respectively. When 2 g of bamboo charcoal was added into 100 mL of U contaminated groundwater (0.04 ~ 10.8 mg/L of initial U concentration), the separation factor ($R_L$) and the surface coverage (${\theta}$) maintained lower than 1, suggesting that the U contaminated groundwater can be cleaned up with a small amount of the bamboo charcoal.

Precipitation on slope is separated into infiltration and outflow according to physical properties of soil and slope. However, the slope analysis is assumed that all precipitation are percolated. So, groundwater level is excessive tend to be calculated. In this paper, NRCS model and Horton models that have a suitability were used for agro-type analysis of Seoul station after precipitation was separated into infiltration and outflow. Also, gradient of slope was analyzed about seepage behavior and underground water level aspect through numerical analysis. After inclination correction, the estimated infiltration was compose of slopes much applied by domestic design standard. The change of groundwater level is appeared greatly as agro-type goes from D type to A type in the analysis results.

One of the major elements of a natural landslide is the increase of the pore water pressure in a weakened layer. Therefore, the measurement of the pore water pressure in the layer is important. This work is a laboratory model study of the measurement of the pore water pressure with regard to the confined groundwater level, the permeability of the crack zone and the weathering degree of the weakened layer. By the model of the Tertiary period failure type and the Colluvium failure type, the reactions of the pore air pressure and the pore water pressure were measured in the weakened layer according to the permeability of the filter on the condition of the confined groundwater states. On the reaction phase of the pore pressure according to the during time, the Tertiary period failure type proved to be a step type and the Colluvium failure type turned out to be a wave type. The reaction ratios of the pore water pressure in the Tertiary period failure type are higher than the Colluvium failure type, decrease according to increasing of the weathering degree of the weakened layer.
