We carried out rock pneumatic fracturing test which to increase groundwater yield by injection of highly pressured air in artificially under the surface every four borehole. The result of test performing shows that effect of increasing groundwater was not found in three testhole around igneous and metamorphic formation area, but we can realized that about 15 percent increased wateryield appeared in number P-5 test hole at sedimmentary rock formation.
Changwon City first constructed riverbank filtration plants in Book-Myeon and Daesan-Myeon in Korea in the year 2001. This study evaluated hydrogeological characteristics and groundwater flow simulation between the Nakdong River and the fluvial aquifers adjacent to the river in Book-Myeon, Changwon City. The groundwater simulation calculated the influx rate from the Nakdong River and the fluvial aquifers to pumping wells through the riverbank filtration system. The groundwater flow model utilized drilling, grain size analysis, pumping test, groundwater level measurements, river water discharge and rainfall data. Hydraulic heads calculated by the steady-state model closely matched measured heads in pumping and observation wells. According to the transient flow model, using a total pumping amount of 14,000 $m^3$/day, the flux into the pumping wells from the Nakdong River accounts for 8,390 $m^3$/day (60%), 590 $m^3$/day (4%) is from the aquifer in the rectilinea. direction to the Nakdong River, and 5,020 $m^3$/day (36%) is from the aquifer in the parallel direction to the Nakdong River. The particle tracking analysis shows that a particle from the Nakdong River moves toward the pumping wells at a rate of about 1.85 m/day and a particle from the aquifer moves toward the pumping wells at a rate of about 0.75 m/day. This study contributes to surface water/groundwater management modeling, and helps in understanding, how seasonal change affects pumping rates, water quality, and natural recharge.

The objective of this study is to develop the relational formula to estimate the streamflow depletion due to groundwater pumping near stream, which has been statistically derived by using the simulated data. The integrated surface water and groundwater model, SWAT-MODFLOW was applied to the Sinduncheon and Juksancheon watersheds to obtain the streamflow depletion data under various pumping conditions. Through the multiple regression analyses for the simulated streamflow depletion data, the relational formula between the streamflow depletion rate and various factors such as pumping rate, distance between well and stream, hydraulic properties in/near stream, amount of rainfall was obtained. The derived relational formula is easy to apply for assessing the effects of groundwater pumping on near stream, and is expected to be a tool for estimate the streamflow contribution to the pumped water.
To investigate groundwater variation characteristics in the Hancheon watershed, Jeju Island, an integrated hydrologic component analysis was carried out. For this purpose, SWAT-MODFLOW which is an integrated surface-groundwater model was applied to the watershed for continuous watershed hydrologic analysis as well as groundwater modeling. First, ephemeral stream characteristics of Hancheon watershed can be clearly simulated which is unlikely to be shown by a general watershed hydrologic model. Second, the temporally varied groundwater recharge can be properly obtained from SWAT and then spatially distributed groundwater recharge can be made by MODFLOW. Finally, the groundwater level variation was simulated with distributed groundwater pumping data. Since accurate recharge as well as abstraction can be reflected into the groundwater modeling, more realistic hydrologic component analysis and groundwater modeling could be possible.

Hydraulic conductivity of unconsolidated media can be determined by aquifer tests, laboratory tests and empirical equations based on grain size analysis. Commonly, the different methods give different hydraulic conductivities. Grain size measurements were done to determine hydraulic conductivity, using 184 soil samples collected from eight boreholes in a riverbank filtration area, Daesan-Myeon, Changwon City, Korea, Pumping tests were conducted at the riverbank filtration area. The average hydraulic conductivity by the empirical relations from grain size measurements comes out around $10^{-2}m/s$, 22 to 55 times higher than by the pumping test analyses. The hydraulic conductivity obtained from the empirical equations is interpreted to have a relationship with steady-state condition while that obtained from the pumping tests is interpreted to have a relationship with unsteady-state condition. Thus, hydraulic conductivity obtained from various methods should be critically analyzed for reasonable management of groundwater development.
To prevent the drying-out of streams and to make effective use of stream water and groundwater, it is necessary to evaluate the impact of groundwater pumping on nearby streams. To this end, stream depletion due to groundwater pumping should be investigated in terms of various hydraulic characteristics of the aquifer and stream. This study used the Baalousha analytical solution, which accounts for stream-stage variation over time, to analyze stream depletion due to groundwater pumping for cases where the stream level decreases exponentially and recovers after the decrease. For conditions such as an aquifer transmissivity of 10~100 ㎡ d-1, storage coefficient 0.05~0.3, streambed hydraulic conductance 0.1~1.0 m d-1, stream-well distance 100~500 m, and stage recession coefficient 0.1~1.0 d-1, the contribution of stream water (the dimensionless ratio of stream water reduction rate to groundwater pumping rate) was analyzed in cases where stream level change was considered. Considering the effect of stream-stage recession, the contribution of stream water is greatly reduced and is less affected by the stream-depletion factor, which is a function of the stream-to-well distance and hydraulic diffusivity. However, there is no significant difference in stream depletion under constant- and variable-stage recovery after recession. These results indicate that stream level control can distribute the relative impacts on stream water and aquifer storage during groundwater pumping

The objective of this study is to spatially assess the streamflow depletion due to groundwater pumping near the main stream of Juksanchoen watershed. The surface water and groundwater integrated model, SWAT-MODFLOW, in this study, was used to simulate streamflow responses to each groundwater pumping from wells located within 500m from the stream. The simulated results showed that the streamflow depletion rate divided by the pumping rate for each well location ranges from 20% to 96%. In particular, the streamflow depletion exceeds 60% of pumping rate if the distance between stream and well is lower than 100 m, hydraulic diffusivity is higher than $500m^2/d$, and streambed hydraulic conductance is above 25m/d. The simulated results were also presented in the form of spatial distribution maps that indicate the fraction of the well pumping rate in order to show the effect of a single well more comprehensively and easily. From the developed areal distribution of stream depletion, higher and more rapid responses to pumping occur near middle-downstream reach, and the spatially averaged percent depletion is about 66.7% for five years of pumping. The streamflow depletion map can provide objective information for the near-stream groundwater permission and management.
The pumping efficiency of small size tube wells was investigated in the rural area. The pumping characteristic curve is constructed to estimate the pumping rate of small size tube wells for irrigation. The pumping rates from the characteristic curve highl
Step-drawdown pumping tests for identifying the improvement of groundwater well performance after rehabilitation treatments were conducted in three longstanding wells. Three selective mechanical treatment methods including power bubble, high-voltage electric pulse, and air surging were applied to these wells and the applicability of these methods to secure additional groundwater resources were evaluated quantitatively. Commonly, drawdown at final stage of stepdrawdown pumping tests after rehabilitation decreased by as much as 0.61~0.70 meters compared to those before rehabilitation. In addition, final specific drawdown values of three wells increased from 9% to 14% after rehabilitation. Formation loss coefficient and well loss coefficient decreased to 6.1% and 60.6%, respectively, indicating some clogging materials by precipitation/corrosion/microbe within pores of aquifer materials, gravel packs, and screens were effectively removed by applied methods. Decrease of formation loss coefficient was higher in the well applied by the power bubble method meanwhile high-voltage electric pulse method demonstrated the higher decrease of well loss coefficient. Additionally secured groundwater amounts after rehabilitation ranged from 23.3 to 32.1 m3/day, which account for 8~16% of initially developed pumping rates of the wells. From the results of this study, the effective selection of rehabilitation treatments considering aquifer characteristics are expected to contribute to secure groundwater resources for irrigation as well as to plan systematic management program for groundwater resources in rural area.

A general solution for determining the storage coefficient from multi-step pumping test recovery data is suggested. This solution is essentially based on the method of Banton and Bangoy (1996), which used single-step pumping test recovery data. The suggested solution can be applied to any-step pumping test recovery data. We have demonstrated the applicability of the general solution to single-, double-, and triple-step pumping and/or step-drawdown test data partially described in Lee and Lee (1999). The estimates of storage coefficient as well as transmissivity are well consistent with the values from other methods for pumping phase data.
