  • In order to evaluate the performance of ground heat source in thermal labyrinth on pre-heating in winter season and pre-cooling in summer season, the followings are made as a conclusion through case study of H project by using the weather data from Korea meteorological administration and CFD model. By making outdoor air inlet via ground heat source in thermal labyrinth for conduction, convection and etc., the temperature rise is $13.4^{\circ}C$as the effect of pre-heating in winter season. On the other hand, as the effect of pre-cooling in summer season, the temperature decrease is $7.2^{\circ}C$. The energy saving rate by the application of ground heat source in thermal labyrinth is 9.1%.

  • Knowledge of ground thermal properties is most important for the proper design of BHE(borehole heat exchanger) systems. The configure type, pipe size and thermal performance of the BHE is highly dependent on the ground source heatpump system-efficiency and instruction cost. Thermal response tests with mobile measurement devices were developed primarily for in-situ determination of design data for Standing Column Well apply. The main purpose has been to determine in-situ values of effective ground thermal conductivity and thermal resistance, including the effect of ground-water flow and natural convection in the boreholes. The test rig is set up on a some trailer, and contains a sub-circulation pump, a boiler, temperature sensors, flow meter and a data logger for recording the temperature and circulation fluid flow data. A constant heating power is injected into the SCW through the test rig and the resulting temperature change in the SCW is recorded. The recorded temperature data are analysed with a line-source model, which gives the effective in-situ values of rock thermal conductivity and thermal resistance of SCW.

  • Knowledge of ground thermal properties is most important for the proper design of large BHE(borehole heat exchanger) systems. Thermal response tests with mobile measurement devices were first introduced in Sweden and USA in 1995. Thermal response tests have so far been used primarily for in insitu determination of design data for BHE systems, but also for evaluation of grout material, heat exchanger types and ground water effects. The main purpose has been to determine insitu values of effective ground thermal conductivity, including the effect of ground-water flow and natural convection in the boreholes. Test rig is set up on a small trailer, and contains a circulation pump, a heater, temperature sensors and a data logger for recording the temperature data. A constant heat power is injected into the borehole through the pipe system of test rig and the resulting temperature change in the borehole is recorded. The recorded temperature data are analysed with a line-source model, which gives the effective insitu values of rock thermal conductivity and borehole thermal resistance.

  • This study was carried out in order to estimate the greenhouse performance for Ground filtration water source heat pump which was installed for supplying the heat to the paprika greenhouse in Jinju city. Experimental area of Greenhouse was $3,300m^2$, For keeping the heat from greenhouse, single plastic covering and double thermal screen was installed. With considering all of greenhouse insulation condition and designed heatng temperature, heating capacity for experimental greenhouse was calculated as 320,000kcal/hr. Coefficient of performance(COP) of Ground filtration water source heat pump was gauged and greenhouse heating performance was tested from Febuary 1 to Febuary 28 in 2011. The result showed that COP of heat pump was in the range of 3.7~4.7 and COP of heating system was in the range of 3.0~3.5. The vaule of COP was very high and the temperature inside greenhouse was well corresponded to the setting temperature of greenhouse environment controlling system. lots of Ground filtration water made the the number of well fewer and the expense for installing heating system cheaper than that of geothermal system used custmarily. and this system went beyond the limitation of intaking amount of groundwater in normal Groundwater source heat pump.

  • For an analysis of the horizontal-type geothermal heat exchanger system, an understanding of the ground temperature distributions is required in order to predict system performance. Because it is difficult to decide on the underground temperature due to the adjustment of its temperature cycle, numerous calculations are required in order to decide on the temperature cycle. In this paper, Buggs formula is utilized to decide a phase shift for outdoor temperature and ground surface temperature, which are obtained from Korea Meteorological Administration. Overall, the underground temperature distribution in the Changwon region is predicted as $10.5^{\circ}C{\sim}20.3^{\circ}C$ at a depth of 3 m.

  • An increase of groundwater flux in BHE system creates that ground temperature (locT) becomes lower in summer and higher in winter time. In other words, it improves significantly the performance of BHE system. The size of thermal plume made up by advection driven-flow under the balanced energy load is relatively small in contrast to the unbalanced energy load where groundwater flow causes considerable change in the size of thermal plume as well ground temperature. The ground temperatures of the up gradient and down gradient BHEs under conduction only heat transport are same due to no groundwater flow. But a significant difference of the ground temperature is observed between the down gradient and up gradient BHE as a result of groundwater flow-driven thermal interference took placed in BHE field. As many BHEs are designed under the obscure assumption of negligible groundwater flow, failure to account for advection can cause inefficiencies in system design and operation. Therefore including groundwater flow in the design procedure is considered to be essential for thermal and economic sustain ability of the BHE system.

  • The time shift processing of ground measured surface temperature with the meteorological variables has no evaluated function. We introduce new evaluating function. To use this evaluating function, the algorithm of time-shift processing will be able to be reliable and get error-bar for all moving measured point's data. We will finally obtain the area averaged surface temperature by land observation.

  • In this paper, the inter-lamina shear strength (ILSS) of multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWNT) reinforced carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) and thin-ply composites were verified under low earth orbit (LEO) space environment. CFRP, MWNT reinforced CFRP, thin-ply CFRP and MWNT reinforced thin-ply CFRP were tested after aging by using accelerated ground simulation equipment. The used ground simulation equipment can simulate high vacuum ($2.5{\times}10^{-6}torr$), atomic oxygen (AO, $9.15{\times}10^{14}atoms/cm^2{\cdot}s$), ultraviolet light (UV, 200 nm wave length) and thermal cycling ($-70{\sim}100^{\circ}C$) simultaneously. The duration of aging experiment was twenty hours, which is an equivalent duration to that of STS-4 space shuttle condition. After the aging experiment, ILSS were measured at room temperature ($27^{\circ}C$), high temperature ($100^{\circ}C$) and low temperature ($-100^{\circ}C$) to verify the effect of operation temperature. The MWNT and thin-ply shows good improvement of ILSS at ground condition especially with the thin-ply. And after LEO exposure large degradation of ILSS was observed at MWNT added composite due to the thermal cycle. And the degradation rate was much higher under the high temperature condition. But, at the low temperature condition, the ILSS was largely recovered due to the matrix toughening effect.

  • To investigate the curing temperature effect on the engineering properties of ground granulated blast furnace slag-cement bentonite (GGBS-CB) slurry for cutoff walls, the laboratory experiments including the setting time, unconfined compressive strength, and permeability tests were carried out. The mixing procedure for GGBS-CB slurry was as follows: (1) montmorillonite-based bentonite slurry was first fabricated and hydrated for four hours, and (2) cement or GGBS with cement was added to the bentonite slurry. The dosage range of GGBS was from 0 to 90 % of cement by mass fraction. The GGBS-CB slurry specimens were cured and stored in environmental chamber at temperature of 14±1, 21±1, 28±1℃ and humidity of 95±2% until target days. The highest average temperature of three seasons in South Korea was selected and used for the tests. The experimental results indicated that in early age (less than 28 days) of curing the engineering properties of GGBS-CB slurry were primarily affected by the curing temperature, whereas the replacement ratio of GGBS became a main factor to determine the properties of the slurry as the curing time increased.
