Stress is an invisible physical quantity, necessitating the use of earth pressure cells for its measurement within theground. Traditional strain-gauge type earth pressure cells, due to their rigidity, can distribute stress within the ground and subsequently affect the accuracy of earth pressure measurements. In contrast, force sensing resistors are thin and flexible, enabling the minimization of stress disturbance when measuring stress within the ground. This study developed a system that utilizes force sensing resistors to measure ground stress. It involved constructing a soil chamber for calibrating the force sensing resistors, assessing the variability of measurements from resistors embedded in sand ground, and verifying the attachment of pucks to the sensing area of the resistors.
SCP(Sand Compaction Pile) method that forms a composite ground by driving compacted sand piles into the soft ground. This method is one of the soil improvement techniques for reinforcing and strengthening soft ground deposits. This thesis describes the investigation on the behavior of soft ground reinforced with SCP by low improvement ratio. Direct shear test and consolidation test carried out to verified behavior of composite ground reinforced with SCP. Test results were discussed with reference to the amount of consolidation settlement, variation of shear resistance with area replacement ratio and effect of the stress concentration. And, laboratory model loading test carried out to verified the effect of the location and failure mode of reinforced embankment. Residual shear strength varies with the area replacement and constrict load in the low replacement ratio. Calculated stress concentration ratio overestimate than proposed valve by experimental, theoretical and analytical method. As regards the location, improving right below of the top of the slope was more effective than below of the toe of the slope. This thesis carried out to obtain fundamental information of behavior of the composit ground. Hereafter, centrifuge test that reproduce stress state of the in-situ must be necessary through the further study about pile penetration, reinforce position and construct time.

In this study, it is intended to investigate the effect of the grinding conditions such as table feed, down feed, cross feed of residual stress distribution. And this distribution is investigated upon the grinding direction and the its orthogonal direction at ground layers. The material is used carbon steel (SM20C) which usually used to motor axis. And in order to be considered as Bernoulli-Euler beam, the dimension of the specimen is appropriately designed. According as corroiding the ground surface, the residual stress layers are removed and strain which occured on account of unbalance of internal stress is detected by rosette-gate. Through A/D converter and computer, these values are saved and evaluated residual stress by stress-strain relation formula. Finally, these results are diagrammatized with Auto Cad. The results obtained are as follows. As the depth from the ground surface increases in grinding direction and its orthogonal direction, tensile residual stress exists in the surface, and subsequently it becomes compressive residual stress as it goes downward. As the table feed, the cross feed and the down feed increase, maximum residual stress is transformed form the tensile to the compressive.
This paper presents the results of a numerical investigation on the behavior of earth retaining wall system with emphasis on the groundwater lowering. Using the 2D stress-pore pressure coupled analysis, the effects of ground excavation and groundwater interaction were examined using wall horizontal deformation, ground surface movement, plastic strain pattern, effective stress distribution and axial stress of strut. In addition, based on the results from a parametric study on a wide range of soil profile and initial ground water table level, the ranges of wall displacement and ground deformation were suggested quantitatively.
Ground reaction curve is a very important information for evaluating the side wall displacements and installation time of the tunnle support. The ground reaction curve can be estimated by analytical closed form solutions derived on the supposition of circular section and isotropic stress condition. The conditions of stress field and tunnel configurations, however, are quite different in practice. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the effects of stress anisotropy and tunnel configurations in order to use simply in practical design. This paper describes a study of influence factors in the ground reaction curve. In order to evaluate the applicability of analytical closed form solution in practical design, two sets of parametric studies were carried out by numerical analysis in elastic tunnel behaviour: one set of studies investigated the influence of the K and the other set investigated the influence of the tunnel configurations such as circular and horse-shoe shape. In the studies, K value varies between 0.5 and 3.0, initial ground vertical stress varies between 5~30MPa far each K values. The results indicated that the self-supportability of ground is larger in the ground having lower K value. However, it is suggested that the applicability of closed form solution may not be adequate to determine directly the installation time of the support and self-supportability of ground. It is necessary to consider stress anisotropy and tunnel configurations.
An underground explosion crests shock waves, which propagate to a buried structure through the이 ground. Due to the explosion, very high stresses and large deformation occur in the ground so that the shock waves decay gradually. In this study the numerical simulation of the ground shock attenuation has teen performed. One dimensional wave equation is presented and the finite difference method is applies. A Cap model is adopted to describe the stress-strain behavior of the ground. The results are expressed by the attenuation of the peak stress and the particle vrelocity by the time and the distance.
Mechanical behavior of composition pound improved by sand compaction pile (SCP) with low replacement area ratio could be more significantly affected by mechanical interaction between sand piles and clays than that of clay ground improved by SD or SCP with high replacement area ratio. It is essential to elucidate the mechanical interaction in the improved clay ground, in order to accurately estimate behavior in reducing settlement of the improved ground and increasing strength of clays. In this paper, through a series of model tests of composition ground improved by SCP with low replacement area ratio, each mechanical behaviors of sand piles and clays in the composition ground during consolidation was elucidated, together with stress sharing behavior between sand piles and clays.
In this study, centrifuge model tests were performed to investigate stress concentration ratio, stress characteristics of soft clay ground improved by granular compaction piles with changes of piles type, loading condition and area replacement ratio. From the results of rigid loading tests, while vertical stresses acting on clay ground is similar, vertical stresses acting on GCP is larger than those acting on SCP with same replacement ratio. Also, average stress concentration ratio is increased proportionally with increasing the area replacement ratio of GCP and SCP. It was evaluated that average stress concentration ratio of soft clay ground improved by GCP is larger than that of SCP. As a result of flexible loading tests, stress concentration ratio is the highest when replacement ratio of GCP and SCP is 40%. Average stress concentration ratio of soft clay ground improved by GCP is a little more higher than is improved by SCP.

During deep excavation, changes in the state of stress in the ground mass around the excavation and subsequent ground losses inevitably occur. These changes in the stress and ground losses are reflected on surrounding ground in the form of ground movements, which eventually Impose strains onto nearby structures through translation, rotation, distortion, and possibly damage. A substantial portion of the cost of deep excavations in urban environments is, therefore, devoted to prevent ground movements. Prediction of ground movements and assessment of the risk of damage to adjacent structures has become an essential part of the planning, design, and construction of a deep excavation project in the urban environments. This paper presents excavation-induced ground movement characteristics as well as important issues related to excavation-induced building damage assessment.
A finite element analysis has been conducted to clarify the behaviour of a single pile in heaving ground related to ground excavation. The numerical analysis has included soil slip at the pile-soil interface, analysing the interaction between the pile and the clay has been studied. The study includes the upward movement of the pile, the relative shear displacement between the pile and the soil and the shear stresses at the interface and the axial force on the pile. In particular, the shear stress transfer mechanism at the pile-soil interface related to a decrease in the vertical soil stress has been rigorously analysed. Due to the reductions in the vertical soil stress after excavation, the relative shear displacement and the shear stress along the pile have been changed. Upward shear stress developed at most part of the pile (Z/L=0.0-0.8), while downward shear stress is mobilized near the pile tip (Z/L=0.8-1.0) resulting in tensile force on the pile, where Z is the pile location and L is the pile length. Some insights into the pile behaviour in heaving ground analysed from the numerical analyses has been reported.
