  • This study analyzes considerations for satellite orbit elements for the national micro-satellite system to effectively perform its mission in accordance with the operational concept, and compares the conventionally used Walker method to improve the performance of the satellite constellation method of the repeating ground track orbit. In satellite orbit element analysis, altitude candidate values of micro-satellite system, use of eccentricity and argument of perigee through frozen orbit, necessity of selection of appropriate orbit inclination, and satellite phasing rules for flying the same repeating ground track orbit are proposed. Based on these analysis results, the superiority of the constellation method of the repeating ground track orbit compared to the Walker method is verified in terms of revisit performance analysis, global coverage characteristics, and orbit consistency.

  • One of the most important steps to consider in utilizing micro-satellites for surveillance or reconnaissance operations is the design of the satellite constellation. The Walker-Delta constellation which is commonly used in designing satellite constellations is not ideal for this operation in which military satellites are required to monitor specific regions continuously in a stable manner. This study aims to discuss the methodology for designing a satellite constellation that is capable of monitoring the fixed region at the fixed time each day by using the Sun synchronous Orbit. The BB(Beach Ball) constellation that we propose outperforms the Walker-Delta constellation in terms of robustness and it holds the merit of being simple in its design, thereby making future expansions more convenient. We expect the BB constellation will have a high applicability as the operational concept of military surveillance satellites is established in the near future.

  • The existing analytical expression for the voltage between the power and ground plane consist of metal-dielectric-metal board is expressed in the two dimensional infinite series. To reduce the computation time, the two dimensional infinite series is converted to the one dimensional infinite series using the summation formula of Fourier series. We applied these equations to the analysis of voltage between the $9‘{\times}4'$ size power-ground plane. The derived one dimensional infinite series shows the more rapid convergency and the more accurate result than the two dimensional infinite series. This equation can be applied to the power-ground plane analysis which needs a lot of the repeating computation.

  • International Competition for Parc de la Villette has evoked the old architectural question that is about the conflict between unchanging architecture and ever changing time. Tschumi and Koolhaas suggested well-known solutions for it, both of which had started from the criticism of general urban design approach that ignored changing factors in time. However, this study argues that the approaches of Tschumi and Koolhaas are even opposite to each other in spite of their common aims. Influenced by deconstructivists' theories, Tschumi tries to generate the 'text' on the surface of la Villette so that the different users of the park can read it differently. The text is built by 'superimposing' different systems such as points, lines, and surfaces. This study criticizes such formalistic approach since such 'forms' do not generate any dialogue with the real users but just stay as a backdrop for irrelevant events. Meanwhile, Koolhaas concentrates on the 'ground-ness' of la Villette. What he deals with is the real ground which embraces all the potentials on it already. His 'bands' express nothing but the metamorphosis of the ground, and the ground generates the 'differences' out of itself by repeating itself ceaselessly. This study tries to clarify all those happenings and meanings by intimate investigation of various drawing works for the la Villette project by Tschumi and Koolhaas.

  • This paper performs numerical prediction of fuel temperature in the fuel tanks of unmanned air vehicles for both ground static non-operating and in flight transient conditions. The calculation is carried out using a modified Dufort-Frankel scheme. For this calculation, it is assumed that a non-operating vehicle on the ground is subjected to repeating daily cycles of ambient temperature with solar radiation and wind under 1%, with a 20% probability of hot day conditions. The energy conservation equation is used as the governing equation to calculate heat transfer between the fuel tank surface and the ambient environment. Results of the present analysis may be used as the estimated initial values of fuel temperatures in a vehicle's fuel tank for the purpose of analyzing transient fuel temperatures during various flight missions. This research also demonstrates that the fuel temperature of the front tank is higher than that of the rear tank, and that the difference between the two temperatures increases in the later phases of flight due to the consumption of fuel.

  • This paper is to demonstrate the effectiveness of one point grounding in support of ESS protection. One point grounding provides for the dispatching of excess energy for protection of switching equipment and personnel from lightning discharge hazards and for a natural sink for noise from atmospheric lightning and power transients. In most ESS installations there are a number of different items that must be maintained at a common ground potential for safety, fault protection or noise reduction. The items typically consist of power systems, heating and ventilating systems, distributing frames, repeating equipmets, switching equipments, etc. Grounding system of an ESS Office is most effective when all the ground points are connected to a single, common earth. The one point grounding prvides a common reference potential, keeping all the items of telecommunications facility free from the earth current and voltage hazards.

  • Jansen Mechanism has been a constant popularity by researchers studying legged robots because of many benefits. This paper proposed the design process of optimized legged robots using Jansen Mechanism and m.Sketch(Jansen Mechanism simulation software). First, driving part of legged robots is designed in compliance with the design regulations of a competitive exhibition. Second, setting the length of link and position of joint is conducted in keeping with the constraints. Third, Ground Length (GL) and Ground Angle Coefficient(GAC) values are extracted by m.Sketch simulation. Finally, by repeating the previous procedures, comparing the GL and GAC values, find the optimum input values. This.

  • The study focused on the fluctuation of the fisheries conditions in fishing ground of yellow croaker, Pseudosciaena polyactis Bleeker. A long-term decreasing trend was observed in the accumulated catches of the species since 1926, with increasing-decreasing fluctuation repeating 6 times. Periodicity was observed in 10-year interval in good fishing years, but not in poor fishing years which had irregular fluctuations. From the geographical distribution of the past catch per unit effort, it was presumed that a group of the species seasonally migrated but most of the groups stayed throughout year in the western area off Cheju Island, which was different from the assumptions of the 1970's. The fishing grounds were distributed along the migration route differently by season, throughout the Yellow Sea and the East China Sea, but shifted gradually southward and narrowed down to the area of $32^{\circ}N-125^{\circ}E$ off Cheju Island, where the center of fishing grounds was given birth to throughout the year with a relatively high density from autumn to spring. It was noted that a negative correlation was shown between the area of fishing grounds and density distribution of catch.

  • In this study, we describe an analytical process for designing a low Earth orbit constellation for discontinuous regional coverage, to be used for a surveillance and reconnaissance space mission. The objective of this study was to configure a satellite constellation that targeted multiple areas near the Korean Peninsula. The constellation design forms part of a discontinuous regional coverage problem with a minimum revisit time. We first introduced an optimal inclination search algorithm to calculate the orbital inclination that maximizes the geometrical coverage of single or multiple ground targets. The common ground track (CGT) constellation pattern with a repeating period of one nodal day was then used to construct the rest of the orbital elements of the constellation. Combining these results, we present an analytical design process that users can directly apply to their own situation. For Seoul, for example, 39.0° was determined as the optimal orbital inclination, and the maximum and average revisit times were 58.1 min and 27.9 min for a 20-satellite constellation, and 42.5 min and 19.7 min for a 30-satellite CGT constellation, respectively. This study also compares the revisit times of the proposed method with those of a traditional Walker-Delta constellation under three inclination conditions: optimal inclination, restricted inclination by launch trajectories from the Korean Peninsula, and inclination for the sun-synchronous orbit. A comparison showed that the CGT constellation had the shortest revisit times with a non-optimal inclination condition. The results of this analysis can serve as a reference for determining the appropriate constellation pattern for a given inclination condition.

  • The domestic abandoned mines are generating subsidence and it is difficult to predict this subsidence and evaluate the risk. The study of the subsidence risk evaluation using the existing numerical analysis only applies the integrative property to the geological structure and ground condition, and analyzes the goaf peripheral plastic domain. Also, there is a realistic limit that only restricted materials can be apprehended in securing the input information, which leads to the low reliability of the numerical analysis result. In this study, 2-dimensional modeling was performed by applying the field geological structure and ground information targeting abandoned mine where the subsidence occurred. Also, the analysis model was revised by repeating the numerical analysis for the difference between the real subsidence ground information and the analysis result to be minimized by modifying the ground property. This revision was automated by applying the optimization technique and the gradational optimal design method dividing multiple ground properties was developed.
