  • Since the SRRs(Short Range Radar) load on the GVESs(Ground Vehicle Equipment System) are operated within several hundred meters, it is important to suppress the interferences between the SRRs. These interference are reduced using the frequency separation between channels, however this method isn't a perfect solution owing to a difficulty of a realization for the interference suppression. Thus, a pulse-to-pulse coding used to suppress the interference fundamentally is proposed in this paper. The concept, the application method and the test results of the proposed method have been described in this paper.

  • In this paper, we proposed an enhanced monopulse MIMO radar system for the tactical scenario where the ground receivers are connected wireless backhaul and closely spaced. By applying the ${\alpha}{\beta}$ filter to the conventional monopulse MIMO radar, we show that the localization performance can be improved significantly. We also propose an efficient localization algorithm for a system with lower rate feedback. Using numerical simulations, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme can improve the localization performance while reducing the feedback over conventional scheme.

  • The position and trajectory of in-flight rocket are important informations to determine the flight safety of rocket. In general tracking system, radar and transponder are used to acquire position information. Rocket position and trajectory can be determined by using RF communication between ground station and in-flight rocket and antenna position data. Onboard transponder system is composed of RF receiving part, RF transmitting one, decoder and single TX/ RX antenna. Therefore circulator is necessary for minimizing RF signal interference. In this paper, the radar transponder system was developed to track the trajectory and position of KSR-Ⅲ by using radar.

  • This study presents an imaging algorithm that can provide an image of a moving target in a multiple-input-multiple-output radar environment where multiple transmitting and receiving radars are fixed on the ground. The proposed algorithm, which is based on polar format processing using plane wave approximation, is shown to provide an unaliased image by using multiple transmitting radars even when the distances between the receiving radars are relatively large. We derive the conditions necessary to deploy the transmitting radars by which the resolution of the reconstructed image can be improved, while simultaneously reducing aliasing artifacts. Moreover, we offer a means of separating out each transmitting radar target echo. Finally, the performance of the proposed system is verified through a simulation.

  • It is well known that alluvial sediment located in coastal region has been easily affected by geohazard like ground subsidence, marine or meteorological disasters which threaten invaluable lives and properties. The subsidence is a sinking of the ground due to underground material movement that mostly related to soil compaction by water extraction. Thus, continuous monitoring is essential to protect possible damage from the ground subsidence in the coastal region. Radar interferometric application has been widely used to estimate surface displacement from phase information of synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Thanks to advanced SAR technique like the Small BAseline Subset (SBAS), a time-series of surface displacement could be successfully calculated with a large amount of SAR observations (>20). Because the ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 L-band observations maintain higher coherence compared with other shorter wavelength like X- or C-band, it has been regarded as one of the best resources for Earth science. However, the number of ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 observations might be not enough for the SBAS application due to its global monitoring observation scenario. Unfortunately, the number of the ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 Stripmap images in area of our interest, Busan which located in the Southeastern Korea, is only 11 which is insufficient to apply the SBAS time-series analysis. Although it is common that the radar interferometry utilizes multiple SAR images collected from same acquisition mode, it has been reported that the ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 Stripmap-ScanSAR interferometric application could be possible under specific acquisition mode. In case that we can apply the Stripmap-ScanSAR interferometry with the other 18 ScanSAR observations over Busan, an enhanced time-series surface displacement with better temporal resolution could be estimated. In this study, we evaluated feasibility of the ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 Stripmap-ScanSAR interferometric application using Gamma software considering differences of chirp bandwidth and pulse repetition frequency (PRF) between two acquisition modes. In addition, we analyzed the interferograms with respect to spectral shift of radar carrier frequency and common band filtering. Even though it shows similar level of coherence regardless of spectral shift in the radar carrier frequency, we found periodic spectral noises in azimuth direction and significant degradation of coherence in azimuth direction after common band filtering. Therefore, the characteristics of spectral bandwidth in the range and azimuth direction should be considered cautiously for the ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 Stripmap-ScanSAR interferometry.

  • This paper presents the effect of spatially-distributed rainfall on both rainfall-sediment-runoff and erosion or deposition in the experimental Cheoncheon catchment: upstream of Yongdam dam basin. The rainfall fields were generated by three rainfall interpolation techniques (Thiessen polygon: TP, Inverse Distance Weighting: IDW, Kriging) based only on ground gauges and two radar rainfall synthetic techniques (Gauge-Radar ratio: GR, Conditional Merging: CM). Each rainfall field was then assessed in terms of spatial feature and quantity and also used for rainfall-sediment-runoff and erosion-deposition simulation due to the spatial difference of rainfall fields. The results showed that all the interpolation methods based on ground gauges provided very similar hydrologic responses in spite of different spatial pattern of erosion and deposition while raw radar and GR rainfall fields led to underestimated and overestimated simulation results, respectively. The CM technique was acceptable to improve the accuracy of raw radar rainfall for hydrologic simulation even though it is more time consuming to generate spatially-distributed rainfall.

  • Anomalous propagation echo is a kind of abnormal radar signal occurred by irregularly refracted radar beam caused by temperature or humidity. The echo frequently appears in ground-based weather radar due to its observation principle and disturb weather forecasting process. In order to improve accuracy of weather forecasting, it is important to analyze radar data precisely. Therefore, there are several ongoing researches about identifying the anomalous propagation echo with data mining techniques. This paper conducts researches about implementation of classification method which can separate the anomalous propagation echo in the raw radar data using naive Bayes classifier with various kinds of observation results. Considering that collected data has a class imbalanced problem, this paper includes SMOTE method. It is confirmed that the fine classification results are derived by the suggested classifier with balanced dataset using actual appearance cases of the echo.

  • Information on radar rainfall with high spatio-temporal resolution over large areas has been used to mitigate climate-related disasters such as flash floods. On the other hand, a well-known problem associated with the radar rainfall using the Marshall-Palmer relationship is the underestimation. In this study, we develop a new bias correction scheme based on the quantile regression method. This study employed a bivariate copula function method for the joint simulation between radar and ground gauge rainfall data to better characterize the error distribution. The proposed quantile regression based bias corrected rainfall showed a good agreement with that of observed. Moreover, the results of our case studies suggest that the copula function approach was useful to functionalize the error distribution of radar rainfall in an effective way.

  • Fuzzy c-means clustering technique is applied to improve the accuracy of G/R ratio used for rainfall estimation by radar reflectivity. G/R ratio is computed by the ground rainfall records at AWS(Automatic Weather System) sites to the radar estimated rainfall from the reflectivity of Kwangduck Mt. radar station with 100km effective range. G/R ratio is calculated by two methods: the first one uses a single G/R ratio for the entire effective range and the other two different G/R ratio for two regions that is formed by clustering analysis, and absolute relative error and root mean squared error are employed for evaluating the accuracy of radar rainfall estimation from two G/R ratios. As a result, the radar rainfall estimated by two different G/R ratio from clustering analysis is more accurate than that by a single G/R ratio for the entire range.

  • This study describes the time domain imaging algorithm which can be well applied to short-range UWB(ultra wideband) bistatic radar. In the imaging method of SAR technology, the frequency domain method is well applied to the areas which satisfy far-field condition. However in the near-field environment, the image quality is not good due to phase error. However back-projection method based on time domain is well applied to short-range imaging radar. Meanwhile because its processing time is very long, real time-processing is very difficult. To resolve this problem FFBP(Fast Factorized Back-Projection) was proposed. Using the raw data gathered on field we implemented back-projection and FFBP method. Then image quality and processing time were analyzed using these methods.
