During a ground fault the maximum fault current and neutral to ground voltage will appear at the pole nearest to the fault. Distribution lines are consisted of three phase conductors, an overhead ground wire and a multi-grounded neutral line. In this paper phase to neutral faults were staged at the specified concrete pole along the distribution line and measured the ground fault current distribution in the ground fault current, three poles nearest to the fault point, overhead ground wire and neutral line. A effect by grounding resistance of poles of ground fault current in the 22.9[kV] multi-ground distribution system. by field tests.
Phase to ground faults are possibly one of the maximum number of faults in power distribution system. During a ground fault the maximum fault current and neutral to ground voltage will appear at the pole nearest to the fault. Distribution lines are consisted of three phase conductors, an overhead ground wire and a multigrounded neutral line. In this paper phase to neutral faults were staged at the specified concrete pole along the distribution line and measured the ground fault current distribution in the ground fault current, three poles nearest to the fault point, overhead ground wire and neutral line. A simplified equivalent circuit model for the distribution system under case study calculated by using MATLAB gives results very close to the ground fault current distribution yielded by field tests.
In this study, it is intended to perform nonlinear time-history analyses of nuclear power plant structures (NPP) under near-fault earthquakes showing directivity pulse and fling-step characteristics. Simulation procedures based on cycloidal pulse and far-fault ground motions are also used to simulate near-fault motions showing forward-directivity and fling-step characteristics and the structural responses are compared with those of the recorded near-fault ground motions. Because it is aimed to determine specifically the pulse type characteristics of near-fault ground motions on NPPs, all the ground motions are normalized to have a PGA of 0.3 g. Depending on the obtained results it can be underlined that although near-fault ground motion has the potential to cause damage mostly on structural systems having larger periods, it may also have noticeable effects on the responses of rigid structures, like NPP containment buildings. On the other hand, simulated near-fault motions can help us to get an insight into the near-fault mechanism as well as an approximate visualization of the structural responses under near-fault earthquakes.
This paper proposes technique to detect ground fault in railway high voltage distribution lines. Overcurrent relay technique is widely used for detecting one line ground fault that occurs most frequently in railway high voltage distribution lines. However, ground fault in distribution line is usually high impedance fault with arc. Because the fault current magnitude measured in substation is very small, the conventional overcurrent relay can't detect the high impedance ground fault. Therefore this paper proposes the advanced technique using wavelet transform. It extracts D1 component from fault signals and detects fault comparing magnitude of D1 component in each phase. To evaluate this proposed technique, we model distribution system using PSCAD/EMTDC and extract various fault data. In conclusion this technique can detect ground fault including high impedance fault regardless of fault distance, fault impedance etc.
In urban rail transit systems, ground faults in the DC traction power supply system are currently detected by the potential relay, 64P. Though it detects the fault it cannot identify the faulted region and therefore the faulted region could not be isolated properly. Therefore it could cause a power loss of the trains running on the healthy regions and the safety of the passengers in the trains could be affected adversely. Two new ground fault protective relay schemes that can identify the faulted region are presented in this paper. A current limiting device, called Device X, is newly introduced in both system, which enables large amount of ground fault current flow upon the positive line to ground fault. One type of the relaying schemes is called directional and differential ground fault protective relay which uses the current differential scheme in detecting the fault and uses the permissive signal from neighboring substation to identify the faulted region correctly. The other is called ground over current protective relay. It is similar to the ordinary over current relay but it measures the ground current at the device X not at the power feeding line, and it compares the current variation value to the ground current in Device X to identify the correct faulted line. Though both type of the relays have pros and cons and can identify the faulted region correctly, the ground over current protective relaying scheme has more advantages than the other.
In this study, it is demonstrated that how the effect of the Near Fault Ground Motion affects the response of the structure. Considering the general characteristic of Near Fault Ground Motion the characteristics of Near Fault Ground Motions is analysed by elastic response spectrums, and the inelastic response spectrum is evaluated with the ductility and the yield strength to consider the inelastic behavior which couldn't be simulated through the elastic response spectrum. The result of this study shows that the effect of Near Fault Ground Motion should be considered in the long period range of long span structures but the domestic seismic design code was developed based on Far Fault Ground Motions, so the effects of Near Fault Ground Motions, which is very serious especially in large structures with a long period, are not considered. Therefore, the effect of the Near Fault Ground Motion has to be examined especially in the seismic performance evaluation of long period structure.
The fault current limiting characteristics of three-phase transformer type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), which consisted of three-phase primary and secondary windings wound on E-I iron core, one high-TC superconducting (HTSC) element connected with the secondary winding of one phase and another HTSC element connected in parallel with other two secondary windings of two phases, were analyzed. Unlike other three-phase transformer type SFCLs with three HTSC elements, three-phase transformer type SFCL using double quench has the merit to perform fault current limiting operation for three-phase ground faults with two HTSC elements. To verify its proper three-phase ground fault current limiting operation, three-phase ground faults such as single-line ground, double-line ground and triple-line ground faults were generated in three-phase simulated power system installed with three-phase transformer type SFCL using double quench. From analysis of its fault current limiting characteristics based on tested results, three-phase transformer type SFCL using double quench was shown to be effectively operated for all three-phase ground faults.
Kinds of most frequent faults happened on overhead distribution system are the single line-to-ground fault, the line-to-line fault and the two line-to-ground fault. Occasionally, the three line-to-ground fault and the disconnection of a wire are happened in severe conditions. In this study, the single line-to-ground fault, the line-to-line fault, two line-to-ground fault on three-phase four-wire overhead distribution system were experimentally simulated and characteristics of total leakage current of distribution arrester caused by these faults were investigated. Also, the changing aspect of total leakage current of distribution arrester caused by voltage variation was investigated. In a consequence, abnormal voltages caused by voltage variation, the line-to-line fault, the two line-to-ground fault have a little effect on total leakage current of ZnO arrester. But abnormal voltages caused by the single line-to-ground fault have an important effect on total leakage current of ZnO arrester.
Because of accident or leak of electricity, high voltage electricity can be conducted to vehicle chassis and damage human. Therefore the unit for detecting ground fault is necessary to minimize loss of life or equipment damage. Isolation resistance must be monitored for detecting ground fault. GFD(Ground Fault Detection) unit continually generate the pulse voltage between high voltage network and chassis. This will be sensing the returned current, calculate the isolation resistance and make decision the ground fault. This paper describes the method detecting ground fault.

We analysed the operating properties of resistive type superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) based on YBCO thin films with a single line-to-ground fault. When a single line-to-ground fault occurred, the short circuit current of a fault phase increased up to about 6 times of transport currents immediately after the fault instant and was effectively limited to the designed current level within 2 ms by the resistance development of the SFCL. The fault currents of the sound phases almost did not change because of their direct grounding system. The unsymmetrical rates of a fault phase were distributed from 6.4 to 1.4. It was found that the unsymmetrical rates of currents were noticeably improved within one cycle after the fault instant. We calculated the zero phase currents for a single line-to-ground fault using the symmetrical component analysis. The positive sequence resistance was reduced remarkably right after the fault but eventually approached the balanced positive resistance component prior to the system fault. This means that the system reaches almost the three-phase symmetrical state in about 60 ㎳ after the fault. The ground currents were almost 3 times of the zero phase mts since most of the fault currents flowed through the grounding line.
