In this study, we propose and develop PDMS-based modular actuators. The microactuator which looks like a small insect uses thermal expansion power of the PDMS (polydimethylsiloxane; $sylgar^{(R)}$ 184 silicone elastomer). The PDMS-based microactuator provides a large displacement due to a high thermal expansion coefficient (approximately 310ppm). The microacruator with 1mm length $350{\mu}m$ width is optimized by using a numerical analysis. The shape of the PDMS actuatoris variously designed. They are placed at several positions to find the optimal position that provides a high transformation ratio. The PDMS-based microactuators are fabricated using a conventional micromaching technique. The fabricated microactuator is heated using a hot-plate. The actuator displacement is measured as a function of temperature from $27^{\circ}C$ to $300^{\circ}C$. The experimental results are compared to the simulation result. When heating temperature up to $300^{\circ}C$ is applied to the PDMS actuator, each V-groove-shaped joint is actuated $30{\mu}$ mat $300^{\circ}C$. Anotherdesign of the microactuator has a maximum displacement of about 656mm.

A case of tick bite was found in the inguinal region of a 74-year-old Korean woman. She was attacked by the tick while working in her vegetable garden in the vicinity of mountain located in Suncheon City, the southern coastal area of the Korean Peninsula. On admission she complained of mild discomfort and itching around the bite area. The causative tick was 23 mm long and had slender pedipalps. The scutum was quite ornate and had eyes at the edge. The genital aperture was located anterior to the level of the coxa II. The spiracular plate was comma-shaped and the anus was surrounded posteriorly by the anal groove. The coxa I had subequal 2 spurs; the external one slightly larger. The spur of coxa IV was slightly longer than those of coxae II and III. The tarsus IV had 2 distinct subapical ventral spurs. It was identified as the fully engorged adult female of Amblyomma testudinarium. This is the first human case of Amblyomma bite in Korea.
The electrospray operated in the cone-jet mode can generate highly charged micro droplets in an almost uniform size at low flow rates. Therefore, the multiplexing system which can retain the characteristics of the cone-jet mode is inevitable for the electrospray application. This experiment reports the multiplexed grooved nozzle system with the extractor. The effects of the grooves and the extractor on the performance of the electrospray were evaluated through experiments. Using the grooved nozzle, the stable cone-jet mode can be achieved at the each groove in the grooved mode. Furthermore, the number of nozzles per unit area is increased by the extractor. The multiplexing density is 12 jets per $cm^2$ at 30 mm distance from the nozzle tip to the ground plate. The multiplexing system for the high flow rate electrospray is realized with the extractor which can diminish the space charge effect without sacrificing characteristics of the cone-jet mode.
An application of innovative laser+GMA hybrid welding process is presented for reducing bead humping defects in high speed welding and increasing side wall fusion in narrow groove welding without torch or wire oscillation. In this hybrid process, the laser heat input is applied adjacent to the weld pool at a relatively low power density to produce a wider, flatter weld bead. In bead on plate in sheet metal gauges, the hybrid process was able to produce hump-free welds from 70ipm (${\sim}1780mm/min$) to over 150ipm (${\sim}3810mm/min$) of the travel speed compared to the un-assisted GMAW process. A square-butt joint in 15mm A572 Gr50 steel welds was investigated. A square butt joint with a gap of 3.2mm was filled with 6 passes. Liquid Nitrogen calorimetry and innovative $CO_2$ laser reflective optics were also developed to demonstrate the concept of hybrid welding.
It is important to make a mechanical structure precisely and reasonably in predicting the dynamic characteristics, controlling the vibration, and designing the structure dynamics. In finite element analysis model updating is appropriate as the design parameter is used to analyze the dynamic system. The errors can be contained from the physical parameters and the element modeling. From the dynamic test, more precise dynamic characteristics can be obtained. In this paper, model updating algorithm is developed using frequency difference between experiment and calculation. Modal frequencies are obtained by experiment and finite element analysis for beams with various cross section and shapes which have added masses and holes in the middle. For plates with and without groove, experiment and analyses are carried out by applying free boundary conditions as well. Mass and stiffness matrices are updated by comparing test and analytical modal frequencies. The result shows that the updated frequencies become closer to the test frequencies in case that both matrices are updated. An improved analytical model is obtained by changing model parameters such that the discrepancy between test and finite element frequencies is minimized. For beam and plate models updating of mass and stiffness matrices can improve the dynamical behavior of the model by acting on the physical parameters such as masses and stiffness.
Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{1c}$ can be used as an effective design criterion in elastic plastic fracture mechanics. Most of these systems are operated at high temperature and $J_{1c}$ values are affected by temperature. therefore, the $J_{1c}$ valuse at high temperature must be determined for use of integrity evaluation and designing of such systems. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{1c}$ tests were performed on SA516 carbon steel plate and test results were analyzed according to ASTM E 813-8, ASTM 1813-89. Safety and integrity are required for reactor pressure vessels vecause pthey are operated in high temperature. there are single specimen method, which used as evaluation of safety and integrity for reactor pressure vessels. In this study, elastic-plastic fracture toughness$(J_{1c})$ and $J-\Delta{a}$ of SA 516/70 steel used as reactor pressure vessel steel are measured and evaluated at room Temperature, $150^{\circ}C$, $250^{\circ}C$ and $370^{\circ}C$ according to unloading compliance method.
The block assembly of ship consists of a certain type of heat processes such as cutting, bending, welding, residual stress relaxation and fairing. The residual deformation due to welding is inevitable at each assembly stage. The geometric inaccuracy caused by the welding deformation tends to preclude the introduction of automation and mechanization and needs the additional man-hours for the adjusting work at the following assembly stage. To overcome this problem, a distortion control method should be applied. For this purpose, it is necessary to develop an accurate prediction method which can explicitly account for the influence of various factors on the welding deformation. Systematic and quantitative theoretical works to clarify the effects of various factors on the welding deformation have rarely been found. Therefore, in this paper, the effects of various factors, such as welding process and gravity on the butt welding deformation have been investigated through a number of numerical analyses. In addition, this paper proposes a simplified analysis method to predict the butt welding deformation in actual plate structure. For this purpose, a simple prediction model for butt welding deformations has been derived based on numerical and experimental results through the regression analysis. Based on these results, the simplified analysis method has been applied to some examples to show its validity.
Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{lc}$ can be used as an effective design criterion in elastic plastic fracture mechanics. Most of these systems are$J_{lc}$$J_{lc}$ value at high temperature must be determined for use of integrity evaluation and designing of such systems. Elastic-plastic fracture toughness $J_{lc}$ tests were performed on SA516/70 carbon steel plate and test results were analyzed according to ASTM E 813-87, ASTM E 813-89 and ASTM E 1152-87.safety and integrity are required for reactor pressure vessels because, they are operated in high temperature. There are single specimen method, which used as evaluation of safety and integrity for reactor pressure vessels. In this study, elastic-plastic fracture toughness($J_{lc}$) and J-$\Delta$a of SA 516/70 steel used as reactor pressure vessel steel are measured and evaluated at room temperature, 150$^{\circ}C $, 250$^{\circ}C $ and 370$^{\circ}C $ according to unloading compliance method.
The container mobilization of material resources has increased continually owing to international economy growth and overseas trade increase in recent years. There are large amounts of order received for container carriers which are the biggest in the world ranging from 8,000 TEU to 10,000 TEU or above The very large container carriers have minimum thickness of sheer strake, upper deck and hatch coaming about $65mm{\sim}90mm$. Therefore, this study is performed in order to develop vertical welding process with high deposition rates applicable to thick plate above 65mm thickness. Electrogas welding process with 1 pole and 2 poles has been developed to apply to vertical joint with thick plates in the shipyard. In this paper, it was explained that the relationship of cross section to various groove types and executed that electrogas welding for thick plates. The mechanical tests were carried out to verify the soundness and effectiveness of EGW.
Recently, aluminum alloy has used various industry, such as automobile, shipbuilding and aircraft because of characteristics of low density and high corrosion resistance. Al 6061-T6 is heat treatment materials so it has high strength and mostly used for assembly by mechanical fastening such as a bolting and riveting. In GMA (Gas Metal Arc) welding of alloy, some defects which are hot cracking, porosity, low-mechanical properties and large heat affected zone is generated, because of high heat conductivity. It reduces mechanical properties. In this study, the major factor effected on properties are analyzed after welding in Al 6061-T6 in GMAW, then optimize heat treatment conditions. Plate of Al 6061-T6 with a thickness of 12 mm is welded in V groove and applied welding method is butt joint. Mechanical properties and microstructure are analyzed according to heat treatment condition. Tensile strength, microstructure and Hardness are evaluated. Result of research appears that Al 6061-T6 applied heat treatment show outstanding mechanical properties.
